Rating: “****” (Excellent). This is a very ugly video (and that’s a compliment!) But then again, this is what we’ve come to expect from Scum. Cause if you’re the godfather of “Gore Rap,” then the more blood and guts, the better!
Scum’s raspy, gargled-in-gravel voice is still strong and rich enough to understand what he’s saying; some guys who try this approach sound like the Sassquatch trying to bust a flow. And putting himself in a cage and combining that with the most brutal, grossly violent scenes from “Gladiator” makes this a true concept-to-video achievement. Lions (especially hungry, starved big cats) prefer the taste of human flesh over Meow Mix any day, so comparing himself to them works well here.
Now, this video doesn’t earn my five-star (Dope), six-star (Fire) or my seven-star (Magnificent) ratings mostly because this is a concept we’ve seen done before and with the same type of animal. But that doesn’t take anything away from how great this video (and song) are. This is a video that shows what happens when you put spit and polish on your work: You achieve greatness! And that’s even with an ugly looking video like this one! Grade: B+
