Hed PE’s Jahred goes off on venue management in Dallas, TX

So I normally wouldn’t have posted about this, but since Jahred of (hed)p.e. spoke of it on the (hed)p.e. Facebook, and I was actually at the show at Trees in Dallas last night, I figured I’d speak on it.

So after (hed)p.e. performed their next-to-last song of the night, a Bob Marley cover of “No Woman No Cry”, Jahred went on a few minute rant about how he loved the club Trees and their staff, but someone in upper management was trying to screw them out of way too much money.  He claimed that they wanted $4.00 per t-shirt sold, when shirts were $20.00 each.  He mentioned that that was 20% of the sale, and said that (hed)p.e. doesn’t ask for 20% of the bar even though the whole audience is there to see them. He then said that while he loved the club, and loved the people who showed up to support them, there may be a need to find another place to perform.  Finally, Jahred said he’d be out in the alley selling shirts out of their tour van so he didn’t get screwed over by the club.  It was pretty awkward for the entire audience…especially the security and bartenders who had nothing to do with the contract that was agreed upon by the band and the venue.

Jahred later thought about what was said and done, and posted his regrets on the (hed)p.e. Facebook:

last night at trees in dallas was a great time. In hindsight, i should not have vented on stage about my displeasure with the contract.

they’ve been good to hedpe for a long time and i should have kept my mouth shut.

I do wish them well.

having said that, WHERE ELSE SHOULD WE PLAY IN DALLAS?

i’m looking for a club with at least a 600 capacity and all ages. there are a bunch of clubs in that Deep Ellum area, but i want the opinion of the locals. The Dallas locals have shown so much love to hedpe throughout the years its a miracle. And the new generation of family we have in that area is a force to be reckoned with.

give me your ideas about clubs wth good sound, smaller than trees, all ages (or at least 18 and over) that you would like to see hedpe play in.

I’m not perfect. I fuck up. still…all i can do is apologize and move on….CANT UNRING THE BELL THOUGH!!@!!!@!@#$!@#$

While I have no idea what percentage of merch other venues usually agree on, 20% sounds a little excessive. That being said, do you think Jahred was justified in calling the venue out onstage? Or should it have been handled behind the scenes?

I never gave a damn about that band, other than the fact that they are on SubNoize.

Perhaps he should re-form his old band, “The Clue” and write pro-Obama songs and 80s dance music. Why not? After the years of protesting against Bush, he’s been silent about Obama’s ramped-up policy of stomping all over rights and freedoms in this country. In fact, he fully supported Obama and probably voted for him during both elections.
