New photo book on the Gathering of the Juggalos!

The 14th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos is quickly approaching, and one photographer who has been to the past 3 is preparing for the release of his new coffee table book titled simply “The Gathering of the Juggalos”.  The photographer’s name is Daniel Cronin, and he has put together this book from an outsider’s perspective, but has grown to love and respect Juggalos and Juggalettes over his last 3 years of attendance.  There are some candid shots taken, mostly of Juggalos and Juggalettes, but some of the artists themselves.  The book is a hard cover and is 104 pages.  It’s selling at a pretty hefty $28.95, but it’d make an awesome addition to any Juggalo’s collection!  Just a head’s up, some of the pictures in there are Not Safe For Work, and therefore probably not safe if you’ve got kids in the house.  Check out an excerpt from the book:

The following is an excerpt from Daniel Cronin’s introduction to his new photography book, The Gathering of the Juggalos.

The book examines band Insane Clown Posse’s fan base, also known as “Juggalos.” Every year, Juggalos meet up at an event called “The Gathering.” Cronin’s photos are from this event.

It all started in a parking lot outside of a convention center in Portland, Oregon, where Insane Clown Posse were performing. During the summer of 2010, I headed there with my camera to see what it was all about and shot twenty portraits of Juggalos. One of them, named Dave, mentioned that I should go to the Gathering and take photographs there. I followed his advice and, five months later, found myself driving down gravel roads in southern Illinois.

The sense of community at the Gathering is overwhelming. It’s really easy to get swept up in the energy of so many people who are excited to be in the same place together. At some point, it really isn’t about the music anymore; it is about the culture and camaraderie. People come here just for the sake of the atmosphere, which is what sets it apart from other music festivals in the United States.

With three Gatherings under my belt, I have developed the utmost respect for Juggalos. I see them as fans that have supported, added to, and nurtured this DIY culture created by Insane Clown Posse. Unapologetic and fiercely loyal to each other, they will welcome you with open arms—as long as you’re not around to judge or poke fun.

Every year, at some point during the festival while I’m setting up a shot, I hear someone yell out, “Hey! Camera man!” It’s like clockwork. At the 2012 Gathering I looked up from under my dark cloth to find Dave walking toward me, all smiles. He shouted, “I’m glad you made it back out for another year!”

You can view some shots from the book in a recent article by the Huffington Post by clicking right here!

I’m sure you remember the name Camille Dodero, who wrote several articles on The Gathering of the Juggalos for The Village Voice.  She has actually written a 3 page forward to the book, which you can read in full via the Amazon.com preview!  (Just click the “Click to look inside” link!)  In the forward, she shares an AMAZING story about a Juggalo who calls himself Knox who traveled halfway across the nation by foot to be at the Gathering!  It’s worth the read!

The Insane Clown Posse actually received their physical copy of it and put it up via their Instagram:

Finally, you can view 65 pictures that Mr. Cronin took and published via his website at DCroninPhoto.com.  I’m not sure if all of those made it into the book, but there’s quite a few in there that match up with the Amazon preview.

If you’d like to get a copy of this for yourself, you can pre-order it Right here.  The release date is April 25th, 2013.
