A Positive (7/10) review of The Mighty Death Pop!

OK, this has got to be some sort of record!  This is the 3rd Positive review of ICP’“The Mighty Death Pop, and it comes from SPIN Magazine of all places!  They have a LOT of good things to say about Violent J and Shaggy’s latest release, and go through some of their specific favorite tracks.  The reviewer defends MDP as something that’s hard to hate…so if you were one of those who dismissed them after the “Miracles” track hit full meme mode after 2009, then you should still give it a chance!  Check what was said about the track “Where’s God?”:

The Mighty Death Pop! is actually at its best when it gets real. “Where’s God” is a pulpy take on a spiritual crisis: “How the fuck is shit fair out here? / Homeless family froze on the stairs / Where’s God? / Bumpin’ his iPod? / It’s odd, I’ll be the lighting rod / I want to know.” And then a Weird Al sound-alike asks, “Where’s God when shit goes down?” It’s pretty much the kind of existential junk Ingmar Bergman spent a whole filmography dealing with, compressed into honest, hilarious dude-bro outrage. Death playing chess… God listening to his iPod… not that big a difference, really.

You can read the entire review right here!  Don’t sleep on this one!

I think it’s hilarious that MDP got the same rating as the new Rick Ross album. I wonder if they can take his number one spot on the billboard 200, too. Probably not, but it’d be fucking great.

By the way the film the Author is comparing the song to, The Seventh Seal, is absolutely worth viewing and anyone serious about film probably already has…
