this is what I put down for the sociopath beat

That was fucking fresh, now I really gotta get a dope beat so I can hear you rap over an actual rap beat instead of having to cut up an industrial/EBM one.

i, myself, am tempted to go through the archives and see if theres something suitable in there that i can hand off.  for sketchez, that is.

are you, lucem, interested?  id have to make it from scratch, most likely.  but i may be able to come up with some shit thats in line with your style, if i work it right.

i suppose the question is open to anybody else, as well.  i might have somethin for ya, if youre lookin for it.  just ask, worst i can say is no.

I don't have the money for studio time or the equipment for recording at the moment. If I did I'd probably be pushing out way more music.

I started recording the track right after I downloaded the beat literally within seconds. so it was rushed but I like it - -

Well after quite some time fidgeting with the effects you defined I understand how to work them all but the EQ...I guess I don't quite get when it is needed or not...I'm assume its function is to equalize the different bands so one does not over power the others so much. not too sure tho :-/ but anyhow thanks a lot for the knowledge!  I'm going to invest some more time researching equalization since it quite important.

most welcome.

broadly, yeah, thats what eq is for.  but remember, you may not want the various bands to be at the same levels, you really have to trust your ears to tell you what works.

in fl, each mixer channel has its own three-band eq; id recommend fuckin with those a bit, if equo or the parametric eqs arent so easy to grasp [equo, for example, has i think around thirty bands, so its not nearly as intuitive].

drasticly eqing the master tracks, as opposed to individuals tracks, is a good way to make an uncorrectable mistake in your master.

when i eq, i start with settings that are pushed to extremes, until i figure out the exact bands i want to affect.  then, i adjust until the effect is clearly noticeable, then i usually bring it back by about half to two thirds of that.  this keeps the changes from being so dramatic that im hurting the track as a whole.  in fact, this is a good policy for effects in general.

like i said, the best way to learn it is to mess with it, over and over, until youve got it down.

[save early, save often!  and if youre making lots of changes to your mix, you might save multiple copies, in stages]

BACKUP! backup backup backup!
oh, and one more thing... backup!

not talkin any shit either, ive lost good stuff before.
last time, it happened just as i was starting up a laptop, preparing to back everything up. hard drive failed.

basicly, back up everything you dont want to lose, as often as is practical, onto every medium you have at your disposal.

I know, I've just been too lazy to do so, I needed to erase all the music and put it on my hard drive so I could run FL smoother but I've been worried about the laptop getting unplugged durring the process. My laptop's battery never really worked. Soon as I get a new cord or fix the problem, though I do highly believe it's the cord, I'm going to back up all my files asap.

theres also jump drives.
and cloud storage, if youre into that kinda thing.

and, obviously, same goes for any mixdowns or masters.

Embertone Friedlander Violin. I fucking want that shit. Buy it for me, Scruffy.

I really really want this, but I'm not buying any synths or anything until I get something better for making music on. That shit is expensive too. But it sounds like heaven's vagina. Totally worth $100.

Dithering. Do you dither? Do you think dithering is worth it? Or do you think dithering is just a waste of time. I dither. I dither hard, man. I dither all night long.

Why not just pay $100 and have someone play violin on the track?

1 I don't just have $100 dollars to throw out like that every time I want some strings on my shit.

2 This thing is pretty damned close to an actual violin.

3 I only have to pay once and I can use it all I want.

4 Sometimes the first thing I do is just play with the 'instruments' before I actually create the beat for inspiration or to find the right tune to lay down the foundation.

It's just a much cheaper and much more convenient alternative.

You could also have a real musician who you keep in your closet and then you have him come out when you need some violin.  I guess you could pay someone to do that, but it might get kind of expensive.  A cheaper alternative would be to get about a 3 foot bar made out of iron or lead, and hammer away at the back of the knee when the knee's slightly bent.  The violinist ain't going anywhere after that.  You should be able to get a bar like that for much less than $100 BTW.
