Do you like their new NEW sound?
I’m partial to the swan songs era. That’s when I found them, and those are the shows I went to see. After Deuce left I wasn’t completely feeling the new direction. They were basically trying to do the same kind of music, but with more singing by their new frontman. Which didn’t make any sense because he didn’t fit with their old sound. Now they have completely flipped the script and they’re like some linkin park/POD rock band. I found out that they released a cd earlier this year. SO I was listening to it and that’s where this topic came from.

“Goes to listen to Fallout Boy”
“What the fuck, this isn’t anything remotely like swan songs HU”
Really it isn’t remotely reminiscent of any of the HU incarnations.
The word Emo is thrown around far too much, it has lost the real meaning. You need to go look that word up apparently.
It was Punkrock Rap with electro styled beats. They rapped about murdering you, your family, and raping your girlfriend. Shit was pretty cash, and far from any of the couple Fallout boy songs I just listened to.
The masks were cool of course too. But when I went to shows they were still wearing uncut masks. So after a while they would take them off, and it lost the whole allure.

The only track I like by them is “bullet”….Definitely wouldn’t call them “emo” though.
Course when I think of emo I think alkaline trio, afi, and things of that nature

Actually, as I have already pointed out many times, I do know th te definition of emotive hardcore better than most people.
Emo is a subgenre of punk rock. Greenday, Flyleaf, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc. they all remind me of Hollywood Undead in sound even though I dislike most emo bands.
Emo music is not just a bunch of break up songs. Emo music has confessional lyrics on politics, social issues, relationships and heartbreak.
I know this chick that one time linked me a My Chemical Romance song that talked about him killing her then her coming back and killing him as a zombie or some shit.

Really, most of Swan songs was a bunch of party songs which I’m sure is abundent in Emo music as well.

Probably some kind of glitch. I wrote out a two paragraph pointless rant but a quote from lucem popped up instead. oh well

I decided a while ago to really give their music a listen, and see if they were a band I would like. I started with American Tragedy, and my initial reaction was that I really liked them. But then, the more I listened, the more I realized that their songs were all very formulaic, and the album contained maybe 8 or 9 songs that all had the exact same pattern…great rap-rock sounding verses punctuated by boy band quality, high pitched vocals during the chorus. I didn’t mind it on a few songs, but when the album becomes so predictable, and you know what every song will sound like before you even hear it…blah. Too bad, because they really do have some good verses. If they could just fix that pop, boy band sound in every song, I’d probably be a fan. I haven’t listened to any other albums, and based on just that one, I don’t think I’m interested in hearing any more.
