Wish I could be one of those parents with juggalo kids, but also I have ethical values?

I always see lovely little illiterate multi-generational juggalo families and it's so heart warming, and I want my kids to be juggalos too, but then I think about how I don't want to sing "I like gettin my dick sucked jacked off and salad tossed" with my children and I wonder how my other white trash brethren deal with this.

Obviously the answer is they don't care and just think it's funny or something, but like, I'd have to put an excruciating amount of effort into curating a small playlist of Psy music that wasn't sexually violent or suggestive and honestly I feel like it'd take the fun out of it. I don't restrict very much, the gore and violence isn't a problem for me, it's just the 'exposing minors to sexual content' thing that I'm not about. As it is, I pretty much just play the Hallowicked hits and some other little pieces here and there, and the kids barely even notice it. The most they know about juggalo shit is that's what daddy dresses up as on Halloween and randomly through out the year when the mood strikes for some reason.

Anyone else dealing with this conundrum?

Nope. Because I find parents who try to force their kids to be miniature versions of themselves to be absolutely cringe inducing.

Teach them morals, raise them to be kind, loving, intelligent, tolerant of others etc. But if they decide to live a completely different lifestyle from you? you've gotta just fucking accept that.

I'm a polyamorous, satanist, gun-owning, weed-smoking leftist. I don't care if my kids end up being any of those things. as long as at the end of the day they're good people, they can be whatever religion, political party, orientation or anything else they want.

You're transforming what I said into your own storyline about pushing a parent's worldview onto their kids, when what I'm talking about is showing my kids shit that I love and letting them get into it if they also love it.

My kids like almost none of the music I play around them, the only musical interests I share with my son are some Eurodance tracks (he loves Blue DaBaDee and ATC's Around The World, and he fucks with Deee-Lite's Groove Is In The Heart pretty heavy). This has nothing at all to do with "forcing my kids to be mini versions of me".

I'm just curious how other juggalo parents dealt with the extremely offensive nature of juggalo music if at all.

Edit: It's awesome knowing I'm not the only poly satanic stoner juggalo dad 🤘 whoop whoop

(I don't own any guns but I'm in Vermont where I could get one with like two pieces of mail addressed to me if I wanted and I love that).

Psyral & I have a daughter who's been to a few GOTJs with us (we've hit 9 in a row) and though she's not a Juggalo she realizes we work as a team. She plays her music & even gives me some as a gift, and we play ours & she mostly rolls her eyes at it. Parents can try to delegate what's appropriate for their children hoping they don't get scarred for life, but when it comes to ethical values I'd rather a child hear The Great Milenko album than a prosperity gospel sermon by a charlatan like Joel Osteen. Also, at Hogrock's GOTJs carnies sicced their little kids on people when they disregarded safety rules on the rides, so maybe that'll give u some idea about what a Juggalo can do with their kids:

Hmm... well, I'll play some ICP here and there in front of my kids, they don't care. They will just shout "language!!" whenever an obscenity is uttered, and they do this with anything (movies, songs, Kegan nonstop swearing on Mario Maker Mondays, and of course me)... they've seem me painted up several times throughout the years (used to paint up green clown paint at the dispensary every year and work all day) and are sort of aware that I attended many Gatherings and shows. But they don't seem to care, and they're both nearing 10 years old.

I don't try to push my music on them, but I do try to push music in general whenever I get the chance. I feel like it's important, don't ask me why. They love things as varied as Chuck Berry, Post Malone, No Doubt, Mungo Jerry, Aerosmith, Whitney Houston... you never really know what's going to stick within the filter of how kids enjoy music, but it is always fascinating to me.

With help from the cat, of course, this is their favorite song and video

Anyway, our oldest is named Lotus, and once a younger Juggalo couple that we used to live near caught wind, we heard they started flipping out because they were going to name their kid that as a middle name. "They can't do that!!" they were said to shout. My homie set em straight by telling them that we had no idea they were choosing the same name we had planned for years, but anyway it illustrates a point of how dumb Juggalos can act. How petty and warped. How cringe.

As far as would I allow them at a GOTJ? Absolutely, if not for people throwing shit. That's the only reason. All it takes is one scumbag throwing something at the wrong moment and your child is dead. And I would then be in jail for murdering the tosser. This is the same at most any concert, people just throw too much shit. I'll never understand it. There is a time and place but it's just too risky.

I have little care about the lyrics. I'm willing to discuss them if asked, is my take.

Where you at in Vermont, Stalkz?

Brattleboro. I'm from the 518 in Upstate NY but we moved to Bennington in 2016 and then Bratt the year after.

It's cool, I'm a lot less stressed out by daily life here and I've finally escaped truck balls and Jesus trucks, but it bothers me that the hippiest state in the union was the second to last to legalize weed and we still don't have even a plan for stores in place. Most importantly my kids aren't going to school in the ghetto being taught to hate everyone unlike themselves like I did, so I love that.

I was listening to Dead Body Man in the car today and my son literally goes "Dad why is he talking about dead bodies, this seems very inappropriate" and I'm in my head like "What the fuck typa snitch ass narc ass kid did I raise?!?" but what I said was that I already explained to him that gore and violence aren't something I feel the need to shield them from, but I think he's just so young that he doesn't know how else to react to it other than "🫢🫢🫢 omg this is so scandalous!" - anyways, I changed it to some of the nicer songs on The Wraith and we talked about something else. I let him swear when his mom isn't around (I think censoring language and forcing kids to use euphemisms is infantalizing and breeds a kind of cognitive dissonance that's unhealthy in the long run, so I just tell them that a lot of adults find it gross and upsetting when kids swear and give them the space to do it around me so they can be themselves while also learning about modifying their behavior to respect people's different comfort levels - also she knows and appreciates that he has a complex view of respecting people's feelings) so he thinks it's funny that they swear but he isn't put off by it, it's just the gore factor that he feels weird about.

It's strange for me because my parents were between 17-21 when I was conceived/born and they were heavy metal/classic rock bikers in the peak Mtv generation, so horror and music are two of the most important things in the world to me and always have been, so my son being completely uninterested horror at all and having very little self-directed interest in music is really fucking weird for me. I feel like I'm failing him by not giving him an extremely musical childhood, but we bond over video games though. We have multiple minecraft servers on Java and Bedrock and he plays a lot of Breath of The Wild and shit. To be honest, I don't know if music culture/subculture is even gonna have the meaning that it used to anymore, now that entertainment bubbles are so extremely personalized and all of it is equally easily accessible, so I don't really know how to feel about it.

Originally repping 607 upstate here (now one of the most dangerous areas in the country, glad we got out). Vermont is great so far. A lot more Trumpers here than I'd like but they're just louder.

The plan for sales is almost certainly going to be this October for recreational. That's why I moved here, to start up my shop with my old Colorado connections. The county I live in won't allow recreational sales but I have plans for a spot nearby.

Back to kids, I have no problem with swearing either. I wasn't allowed to say even mild stuff like "crap" or "shut up". One time I told my brother that Batman sucked and my dad punched me by the wood pile. Now my dad encourages the worst of the worst talk ever.

Yeah I grew up having to use incredibly degrading euphemisms, I couldn't even say "butt" I had to say "heiny" and I'm physically repulsed by having to even type it out now, but everyone around me spoke completely differently than I had to, even the kids around me, I was the only one, so it was like I was the only one who had to talk a certain way and it was extremely embarrassing; My mom would also enforce it with violence like your dad did. So that's definitely the major impetus for my approach with my kids.

Southern Upstate is definitely no joke, Binghamton is a real motherfucker, glad you got out of it. I'm from Amsterdam, which wasn't exactly a picnic either, but my years in Gloversville were honestly worse. What's fucked up though is how much I miss it... Not just the food (real actual pizza, not greek slabs of poorly seasoned sauce) and 24/7 convenience stores and Stewart's shops, but like, being in a grimy shithole somehow feels warm and nostalgic in my mind. There's something about being in hell that made me feel like there was nowhere to go but up. I won't put my kids through what I went through, but I miss the inner city a lot of the time.

For real, that warmth of familiarity is there, despite the notoriety. We were based around Elmira (went to school there, tried to work, etc) but I was luckily living in the country 7 miles away. A completely different world. Long story short we grew up in a hunting shack then built our own house, and going to Elmira felt like how I would imagine someone from rural Georgia would visiting NYC for the first time. It was crazy back then, and super dangerous, but now it is much worse. So proud of my nieces and nephews doing their best to excel at college and music and such, trying to leave. I have friends who swear by staying for different reasons, some have the stupidest excuses though. Most are scared to leave.

The food speaks for itself. Goddamn its spectacular. I just made chicken spiedies with a jug of the spiedie sauce my father in law gave me. So tasty and nostalgic.

I could go on all day about that... but back to the kids, my daughters are making beats like we used to using Fruity Loops, but they have far more accessible programs now. Their music shits on a lot of the beats we used to make lol. I'm happy for them. Wish they had that in school when I was a chap.

My parents were Juggalos…
My mom always told me the shit wasn’t real and to not take it seriously… so I didn’t but not all kids are the same I guess. She also didn’t want me listening to the “sex songs” in front of her. She took me to a concert tho BPB tour Columbus 09 I’ve mentioned it before went there while all the other kids was trick or treating I thought that was like the coolest shit ever. Instead of candy I got Faygo bottles haha hell yeah. I was like 11 so I stayed behind the pit of course but I still stubbed my fingers tryna catch a half full bottle that shit hurt lol.

I have a son and we have been taking him to juggalo shows since he was about 4-5ish. Up until he was about 12-13 there was always a balcony at the venues around here so throwing things and violence was never really an issue. We always talked about the difference between entertainment and reality, be it in movies, music, games, etc. He started getting into horror at an early age but also was really freaked out by every new movie, until we got him into behind the scenes featurettes and such, that was the point where it became fun and interesting instead of just adrenaline for him i think. Point is, if you just give your kids access to everything, with no knowledge, or ban everything outright, either way it is a great disservice to them. Now he is 19 years old, listens to icp/twiztid/tech/etc., but also loves michael jackson, and disturbed. One of his favorite bands is AC/DC. At the end of the day its all about parenting, not exposure. Thats what i think anyway.

Fuckin A, man. Been here since late August. We've lived all over the lower 50. Well, a few places. NY, PA, NC, CO and VT. If it weren't for my usual uniquely odd ans horrible random luck, it would be all great so far. But we like VT a lot. Every place has its ups and downs, just gotta find our spot.

Orleans County, eh? Is that near Willoughby Lake at all? We really want to camp there this summer.

Yeah I've discovered that rednecks are everywhere. I'm technically a sort of hillbilly/thug hybrid myself, so I get them, I just don't agree with them (translation: they're wrong about almost everything).

Wild stuff, homies!

So this begs the question, I've been pondering this for months..

What are the biggest venues in the Vermont area? Like where do bands come to? Do we have to go hours outside of the state for the best shows, like Montreal, NYC, etc? Has anyone seen a wicked clown show in this state?

Only real venue is Higher Ground in Burlington. I've only have known of one show, it was awesome wasn't packed felt really personal. I can't remember which tour it was it was like 10 11 years ago I believe lol. Wicked Clowns from Outer Space 2 was cancelled back in 2020. I drive to the Palladium, usually every time there's a good show. A couple good places in NH as well.

They were scheduled to play higher ground in 2020, I pre-ordered tickets and shit. Then everything went to hell and the show was canceled. The venue never refunded my tickets, either, even after badgering their customer service about it. Bitches.

Primus also played their last year I believe, wish I'd gone to that, too.
