Hey.
A little back story, I started listening to Milenko when it came out, being from Australia it was a pretty unique thing. Copped the back catalogue and liked the majority of it. I still thought AJB and B/B were fairly decent, AJB moreso. Then, when the Wraith dropped it was an instant turn off for me and 90% of whats been released since then hasn't really done it for me either. I thought "maybe I just grew out of it" but recently I thought fuck it, and threw on some older albums and still dug em, so it isnt that.
Since I've started making beats and making my own music, I think I put my finger on why the dramatic dislike for the new shit that a lot of people have. Samples. Everything up to Bizaar/Bizzar was produced heavily with actual drum breaks and a lot of samples. Now I know they still do sample stuff, but no where near as much and I can see why, with how expensive it is to clear and how sales are in decline etc. Also, the older stuff, particularly Riddlebox and Milenko had sooo many layers to each beat, lots of change ups. They were truely genius in terms of production. I could be wrong 'cos I havent listened to the new shit nearly as much but I also think there has been a huge decline in them using scratching/cuts and simple turntablism?
That and the mixing, the vocals on stuff AJB and before seemed to fit into a pocket in the music, in the new shit the vocals seem to sit ontop of the beat, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this?
I may be being a little picky and even a little offtrack, but I think production is the main divide between the 'old shit' and the 'new shit' and being a Hiphop fan first and foremost, heavy drum breaks as opposed to programmed synth drums and beats being made around full samples are a big deal to me.
Pretty pointless post, but its just something I noticed and feel other people might get a little insight out of it.
Peace.

I think the beats lost their soul and character a bit.
It was distinct and eerie in the 90s, kinda sounds all stock standard to me now. Its not just ICP either, compare the production from Project Born and Myzerys EPs, to say Boondox and whoever else is releasing shit on there now. Same thing. It might be a sign of the times and I may very well be stuck in the 90s though heh.
Havent noticed it as much with Twiztid though.

Icp always has and will be one of my all time favs I even would identify myself as a juggalo. With that being said I haven't enjoyed anything from them since hells pit. Just my personal opinion though. I'll never turn my back on them, just prefer the older stuff. I feel this happens with every artist I like though. The last time Z-ro dropped some shit that was dope to me was in like 09 and he's my favorite rapper.

Immortal technique needs to release some new music! I know he is busy being an activist and (allegedly) fucking over other acts on the label, but come one dude! Thanks for the free collabos album though! (I know he will never read this) His rips are on point in the Martyr.
How and why is he allegedly doing this to other acts?

Not sure where this all came from, interesting though. Diabolic does shoot off at the mouth on FB every now and then though.never about tech/viper tho.. as far as i know at least..
Yeh def not about them, I just mean it seems like he has a hot head and no filter at times. This is interesting though. I met Tech when he toured Adelaide and was one of the nicest MCs I've met, especially as he was under a bad flu.

Props to this guy for being one of those juggalos who stopped liking icp's music around wraith era and not be full of hate and bile over it. Thats fucking awesome.
I'd never get angry at a band for what they release. They dont owe me anything, I just thought I'd put some thoughts out there about it and try and get a discussion happening about their beat choices/production.

Yeah, Tech stayed after the show to meet with fans and talk. I met up wtih him, but Brother Ali was performing so we couldn't really hear each other for shit. Got a shitty picture and my shirt signed though. Also got him in contact with my university so he could visit the Afghan Collection sometime.
