Mike P is mediocre.

Mike E is a god damn LEGEND!

that’s blatant proof of you being a dick-rider.. calm down, the gap between the 2 isnt that vast..

Whaaaat? The gap between the two is astronomical! If you can’t acknowledge Mike E Clark’s importance in the group’s first 5 joker’s cards than you are very dim indeed. In fact Shangri-La and Hell’s Pit are pure trash by comparison. I’m honestly amazed those two records get so much unquestioning hype around here. I’m glad y’all like them but can you not recognize the extreme drop in craftsmanship and quality? I always thought it was very apparent to all.

its arguable for shangri la.. ICP wouldnt of released the record or even continued to record it if they felt that way tho..

I disagree with you almost always, lol. And for this I’m grateful.

ICP and Mike E had a falling out at that point. They thought they could do it without him and they could.. just not as well.

Also, the remix album was a total bail out. The first 5 are sacred. The sixth was a fuck up. Yeah, I said it!

I thoroughly disagree regarding Hell’s Pit.   I’m pretty indifferent towards Mike P’s production on Shangri-la, but combined with the talents of Esham and Fritz the Cat, it’s a formidable classic in my eyes.

Let’s not forget E had a hand in producing Carnival of Carnage, which brings his contribution to the saga full circle. Astute listeners would pick up on the nighttime riff on 24 as a callback to Ghetto Freakshow. You can’t fuck with that.

I love the overproduction of Shangri-La and the minimalist nature of Hell’s Pit. Been saying this for years.

Hmm this gives me an idea…for a THREAD

Interesting points of positivity. You cannot disagree that both albums have some seriously WACK tracks. It Rainz Diamonds? I love the idea of the song and it had potential but holy fuck is it terrible!! Bowling Balls? Fucking disgrace to J’s track record. Compared to songs like The Killing Fields or Fun House? Nah.

I really like It Rains Diamonds, actually. The lyrics are the standout, sure, but I like the backing tunes as well.

Bowling Balls is odd for a beat, using a loose Madonna sample… Hell’s Pit also has the blotch of using all that Midnight Syndicate stuff. I love J’s flow, though.

The Killing Fields is fucking phenomenal in presentation and overall aura. That’s one of their best dark tracks, ever. Fits the whole theme of retribution and insidious morality. And how the last few tracks play in together, 12 and Ol Evil Eye and Killing Fields.. yes, you win there.

Fun House is dope and very unique, and uses “Bullet in the Head” by RATM as a bassline. Dope.
