Anything is pure speculation at this point but, my educated guess would

be that this is the last year they will produce any new physical music.

Meaning that CDs of new releases are a thing of the past and they are

catching up with the times and going all digital, Like more and more artist

are doing. Sure, they will probably create limited amounts of projects on

CD’s like they do with the vinyl stuff or with the throwbacks, hell that could

be a good selling point.

It makes sense from a business standpoint because its way less overhead

cost and leaves a good bit of a projects budget on the table.

I was at a show last year and some of the official PSY ninjas were talking

about a Psychopathic subscription service similar to Tidal or Itunes being in

the pipeline down the road so who knows.

Any thoughts?

The CD is still the most popular format among album buyers. Hundreds of millions of CDs are still sold every year. The death of the CD is inevitable, but I’d be shocked if ICP quit making CDs as soon as 2018.

Selling CDs at shows is also still very important to artists as well.

yeah I doubt it’s the CD’s thing unless they’re really struggling that bad

IMO they should release more vinyl editions of their records (newer ones and older)…they’ve got more shit I’d like to hear on vinyl than Twiztid tbh lol

I don’t think they will stop having CDs all together BUT what they could do, is use one of these “Print On Demand” Sites for their CDs. There are a few movie companys that do this for their Blu Rays, I actually have a few, they are BDRs but with full printed inserts and I see no difference in the quality. That would save them time and money and its really not a bad idea, not to mention they wont be sitting on piles of unsold media anymore. What do you guys think?

Honestly it’s probably gonna be nothing really huge. Violent J tends to over hype stuff.

I think they’re going to change or do away with some of their annual events.

Lessoning the amount of physical copies is inevitable. They’ll still have the option but not nearly as many as in the past.

Maybe new face paint?

Could this gathering be the last one?  i cannot imagine how much money they lose on these things and then having the numbers slowly dwindle down, could the GOTJ this year be its last time?  if i make no sense, I apologize.  Cats had me up all night and got no sleep

Last year’s was one of the biggest they had in a while. They even claimed to be in the black. I doubt they are thinking of phasing out the gotj.

My guess is that the announcement will be that the seminar at gotj2018 will have HUGE news

Oh ok.  For some reason, I had thought the numbers were dwindling down over the years.  Ive never been able to go to ANY of the gatherings.  Was gonna go to the very first one that was free way back in the day, over in Pontiac – I think that is where they had the unofficial first one, but was never able to make it.

Or…could this HUGE news be this tidbit of info below that was in an older song.  Hmmmmmmm?

Or what if I sold out like a bitch?
And took the make-up off and went soft?
Called myself Detroit Southwest Lover
And put my ugly ass face on the album cover
With R & B top ten hits
And we had Jodeci singing all over our shit (aaahhhh!!!!)

Or what about this one below?

Gotta have fun at times, right?

I have no idea why I had thought it was free.  You are right – Novi and official and NOT free – thanks.  That was the one I was gonna attend, but was unable to do so.  Maybe one day, maybe this year, but not working and trying to get disability pay for my back/chronic pain issues, etc, makes it really hard to go to ANY shows.  Thanks Scruffy!

Last year was my first gathering so I can’t compare to other years but a lot of folks were saying it was over crowded compared to previous years. I don’t think its going away, just a change in format. If they stick to their word and don’t invite anyone from MNE, they’ll have a lot of freedom and open slots to do whatever they want with main stage artists.

I fully encourage more full album nights. I love what they did at Juggalo Day.

Yeah.  But, lets say they do not invite anyone from MNE, I wonder if that would hurt the numbers of people going there, but like you said, if they do not have any MNE artists, they could attempt to get more artists maybe from the mainstream – rap, metal, etc and completely flip the script and blow it out of the park, ya know.

I wondered how J Day went.  havent seen any footage from it at all.  would of been cool to go, but somewhat far away from me here in good old Lansing, Michigan.  But, awesome you had a great time.  How was the merch?  How was Sewerside?  For album theme nights, Id love to see The Wraith: Hells Pit night.  I think that would be or could be intense and crazy and all that jazz, plus, for me, the album is still amazing.  With how albums/tracks can give off a certain energy, Hells Pit has some very dark energy and could be done in full in a very creative way.  Just imagine what they could do with that.  For some reason, that album had impacted me so hard, so yeah

Or they could get together with Erebus over in Pontiac, MI and for Halloween, still have Hallowicked, but maybe take the album Hells Pit and allow Erebus create the album within their haunted house.  that would be a crazy visual treat for sure and would be intense if done correctly.  You start at the beginning – Intro/Walk Into The Darkness and proceed through the entire album as it plays and the visuals that would be there to bring you into the album.  Erebus are talented and their building, I think, is 3 or 4 stories and it could be done for sure

Thoughts?

Its hard to say if attendance will be affected since they’re relocating (hopefully) to the west coast this year. I think a lot of the regulars will not be attending due to distance but it also opens the doors for a lot of west coast folks to finally attend. Based on my experience the artists may be half the reason folks go … as long as ICP performs, Juggalos will show up for the full experience.

This year’s Juggalo Day was IMO the best one I’ve attended. Tunnel of Love night was unlike any other ICP show I’ve been to, just a different type of vibe with it being mostly love/fucking songs. Jeckel Bros night was dope, although it never occurred to me how much of that album they perform regularly. They did not perform Echoside or the Shaggy Show. its too bad they had a curfew of 11, I’m greedy and wanted more. But the afterparty show was dope as hell. I thought everyone on the label came correct during their performance.

I could see them doing some sort of Wraith two night event. They are 17in’ right now. lol But I like your idea of a haunted house. That’d be one hell of an attraction to take on the road even.

And I posted up a few photos of the merch in the J Day thread.

awesome.  yeah, back in the day, they did some haunted house tour and it was them, at least for the one in my area, in a cage at the end and you could get a picture of them, stuff signed etc.  at that time, I was living in Kalamazoo, MI, but anywho, Id say just make the haunted house like it normally is over at Erebus in Pontiac.  they would not have to take it with them, but if it was successful at Erebus, maybe they could do a cross country tour of Hells Pit or something like that, but you never know.  It was just an idea I tweeted out to both ICP and Erebus – regarding a Hells Pit theme for their massive haunted house and they could do crazy things with it.  Walk Into The Darkness, CPK, Suicide Hotline, etc – it would have to be 18+, but it could be something very special ya know.  Cool, ill have to check out those pics and thanks.

Yeah, its awesome that if the GOTJ is in Colorado like they want it to be, that the West coast fans will finally be able to head over to it if they were never able to before.  Maybe if they do a last gathering, bring it back to Novi, Michigan – where it all started and go out with a bang and for that one, I would want to go to. Probably around a 90 minute or so drive from me, so yeah.  Ive, thankfully, been able to see ICP quite a few times – ABK, 2 Live Crew, Biohazard, Mindless Self Indulgence – UGH!, Tech N9ne, Kris Kaliko, KMK – those were just some of the groups that they brought with them.  Coal Chamber was supposed to be on the one I went to in Kalamazoo, MI, but at that time, they were kicked off the tour or left – who knows and they brought in Mindless Self Indulgence and that was horrible.  But, it sure is a crazy experience when you make it to the front from the back, for ICP, and all of a sudden, one of their stage clowns takes one of those HUGE blue tubs full of Faygo and you get it doused all over you – that was crazy for sure.  But, then again, after that show, my ex-brother in law and I were handing out Faygo’s to people for free.  We had bought 20 or 30 20oz and passed them out at the end and had our own little Faygo Armageddon

Or, could they just take the makeup off and go soft – like the pictures I made up quickly above – those 2 of Violent J

You’re right. I think they’re trying to get a do over of this year’s announcements without the drama.

@therevwells I was never able to make it out to one of those haunted house tours … too young and too broke. Hopefully whatever they release this year will be culminated into bigger, shinier events. I can’t imagine the end of the gathering. Nope, I won’t.

And that’s a solid no on the Detroit Southwest Lover. lol although we did get that Kreayshawn Song. lol
