There are all kinds of lines in that album that hit like a fucking sledgehammer. I kinda miss that about them.

This^. I think you hit it on the head. Like the song “Angels Falling”, J rapping about shooting angels out of the sky, looking for the woman he once loved that had died. It creates such a vivid mental image doesn’t it? I imagine a red sky, a zombie looking Violent J shooting angels through the chest and hearing a thud when they hit the ground. A big bloody splat! And the only reason the image is so vivid is because the lyrics/beat were perfect. That is something that is missing from ICP’s music these days. Not saying I don’t enjoy the new shit, cuz I do. Just not as much after the first deck concluded.

That’s a hell of a song .

Cool question. Is strange cus I’ve always imagined that J was just joking on the track, like it was a prank to the suicide hotline. I never even imagined it to be anything different till I seen this thread. Some cool theories.

BTW Hell’s Pit is my all time fav album from ICP, every track is crazy… Love it!

I picture this song as a sad, delusional man trying desparately to bring back the love of his life even though he knows it’s impossible. He is willing to do anything to bring her back, even trying to “unkill” her with weapons.

As far as Suicide Hotline is concerned, a couple things stick out to me. First, if you recall, at the beginning of the song you can hear J crying, yelling, and a gunshot. Perhaps this happens after the phone calls the song is a flashback of them. Films fuck with continuity in this way all the time.

The second detail is at the end of the song. When he is talking to sugar slam (that’s her, right?) the background music is super uplifting. Perhaps all of this stemmed from the “bitch he loved” being busy, and the man overreacting and thinking she had ended the relationship. Then, when he gets the phone call, he completely changes. Violent J did end up having children with Sugar Slam. Maybe his feelings for her and how she “saved his life” or something (we all know how sentimental he is) translated over into this song.

I don’t think J and Sugar met till like 2005 I believe. Could be wrong though. Hell’s Pit came out in 2004, so it probably isn’t her.

Now that I’m thinking about the album, I realize for me, it’s probably the best work from both of them from a writing perspective. There are all kinds of lines in that album that hit like a fucking sledgehammer. I kinda miss that about them.

This all day. When I very first heard the record (release day), I thought it was bunk. Then, a year later, it got me through some hard times ages 16-17. Now, at 27, I listen because I find it to be one f their most complete records to date from a hip hop perspective. They rap their asses off and the production from fritz and esham is phenomenal.

I just thought the track was about some poor sappy dude being emo. Until the chick calls and her and her friend come on by and ya know. Doing the diddly under the influence of the marijuana plant. Hippies.
