@xombieking , Elaborate. I am not understanding what movement you are trying to start. How is an artist supposed to create jobs for their fans?

My opinion is that maybe you are listening to the wrong “underground” stuff. Yes there are some that claim underground and are indeed not mainstream but are in it just for the money. Then again, there are plenty of artists that do care about the music and the money is incidental or secondary to that. When there is an artist that is not living up to my standard, then I just stop supporting them. That’s all that really can be done on my part.

If I’m understanding you correctly, I’d argue that the music being shitty isn’t because of a mainstream mentality, but because every “underground” artist is just crapping out the same things that have already been done over and over and over again. Frankly the words “mainstream” and “underground” are becoming more and more meaningless because the internet has mostly leveled the playing field. Lately people seem to use the word “underground” just to mean “nobody has heard of my shit because I have no talent and suck at self promotion.” Not talking about you–I don’t know shit about you–but that’s what I’ve seen in my local rap scene anyway. We are talking about local, right? Everyone big enough to be providing jobs are doing just fine artistically, I’d say (Strange, Pscyhopathic, Funk Volume, etc.)

Yeah Mitchell makes s really good point here. As far as I’m concerned the underground means nothing these days anyway. Before everyone and their mother was a rapper, producer, promoter, sandwich artist etc. Being underground meant a lot when there weren’t any other options than what mainstream sources presented you with.

You of course can still create or promote excellent music. No reason you can’t start a label and work with some people you really believe in if you think it can make a difference. Lots of shit out there to choose from though I personally just do music for fun it seems really hard to get anywhere nowadays on a pro level. When I was a kid we kept a lookout for new really talented acts and spread the word for them. The magics dead now shits a joke I agree there. I hate the whole industry now there’s very little passion anymore imo

Bro I’m new on here and not to diss you, but your post doesn’t really make any sense. What exactly are you trying to do?

@ridik-rage Don’t put to much thought into what he’s trying to do.  Every 5 months or so @xombieking likes to roast up the meth pipe, get on the forums and just babble.

What all have you done to accomplish this, other than this? How much of you do you have invested? The Insane Clown Posse do and have done this themselves, so, good luck with all of that……

I think the create jobs thing meant like paid street teaming?

I don’t think the problem is “mainstream mentality” but just the people who make things as a hobby getting butthurt when people talk about clear distinctions in quality and artistry between them and bigger cats.

It’s cool to be starting out and making shit for fun, but don’t act like you’re tech n9ne but you sound like you are trying not to bother your neighbors while you’re spitting. I make music as a hobby, but I don’t sit here and front like I’m gonna blow up or like I’m underground.

I think a lot of people do shit backwards. They spend all their time trying to get big online and that doesn’t get you anywhere. You gotta get on a stage. Start at fucking open mic nights, go to a bar that doesn’t have live music and ask if you can do a show with a cover charge split between you and the venue, then make people show up.

The internet stuff comes later, but first you gotta polish your shit up. Make it sound like you want it to. Then people will support you for free.

Fans can’t change the general quality of music. We’re just trying to listen to shit that moves us. If you’re shit moves someone, they’ll tell people about it.
