I posted in the Gathering section of the board that this year’s Gathering was my first experience with juggalos and the music (besides for a handful of the more popular ICP and Twiztid songs). Basically, I came with one of the stage shows thinking I would have something to laugh at and ended up having the time of my life and left with a completely new understanding and perspective on the juggalos and the culture. So why am I posting here?

I want to dig deeper. Like I said, I’m unfamiliar with the music. If you guys had to recommend two ICP albums AND two other albums off Psychopathic for someone who’s never paid attention, what would they be?

Hey new guy. I recommend Riddlebox, Mighty Death Pop, Let ‘Em Bleed: The Mixxtape, Vol. 4, and The Wraith: Remix Albums (Shangri-La + Hell’s Pit). Here are their YouTube links:

I would recommend

Amazing Jeckel Brothers by ICP – it has snoop dogg and ODB, it’s classic but doesn’t sound dated, and it has one of my favorite icp songs on it: Nothing’s Left.

And The Marvelous Missing Link: found by ICP. I don’t love the album but it’s brand new so you’re going to get to discover it along with juggalos and you’ll get to see first hand the way our impressions of albums change over time and you’ll have memories specific to this era. Having a joker’s card era as a starting point is something that comes in handy later on when discussing how you came into icp. It’s also got the newest sound and you’ll likely hear some of the songs on tour if you hit up their live show.

As for “non icp”

I would strongly recommend Tales from the Lotus Pod (red if you can find it) by Dark Lotus. The gold version has a member replaced with a different guy and it’s not as good. Dark Lotus consists of ICP, Twiztid, and Blaze (the red lotus pod album has Marz, the gold one has ABK who appears also on Black Rain).

and The Mud, Water, Air, and Blood by Dark Lotus. Dark Lotus is -my favorite- project on psychopathic. It’s a bit more mature (not too much more, just a bit) and the songs tend to be a bit more serious. Let it Rain is one of my favorite songs right now.

Man y’alls recommendations are crazy. Great albums, but not a good introduction. Think of the ones that got you into it, not the ones you like now. I’d say for ICP, I recommend “Riddle Box” and “Great Milenko”. For other, Twiztids “Mostasteless” and “Freek Show”.

The problem with recommending those albums is Riddlebox is 20 years old, the others aren’t that much younger. They’re good albums but they won’t carry the nostalgia that we have for them. I put two older albums up, and two newer, that way the guy can see how they change over time.

Also: Dark Lotus > Twiztid

These are usually the albums (+ 1 Less G) l I lend someone who’s curious. This is typically followed with shock that I still own cds.

I will always own a physical copy.

I’d say for icp go with an older release (riddlebox or great milenko) and then the new one, the Marvelous Missing Link found.

For the other two it’s kind of tricky since there’s so many artists and multiple albums from each. I’d say one has to be a dark lotus album, probably the newest (mud water air and blood). For the second, probably a twiztid album just because they’ve been the biggest name outside of icp. Either mostasteless, freekshow, green book, or abominationz.

These I think would be the best recommendations, but not my favorites.

ICP’s Riddle Box and Great Milenko

Twiztid’s Green Book

Dark Lotus’s Tales From The Lotus Pod

These are the albums that are known to be classics and most juggalos love them.

(Hey, I actually read the rules!)

Now, if it were to be my favorites then it’d be…

ICP’s Ringmaster and Riddle Box

Twiztid’s Abominationz

Dark Lotus’s The Opaque Brotherhood

ICP Solo albums.

Violent J wizard of the hood

and

Shaggy 2 dope – fuck the fuck off

Amazing albums, I have a feeling you’ll like them. I’m happy you went into the gathering with a close mind and ended up having a new perspective on us. (not many people do that)

You have my respect for that sir.

Yeah, can’t lie, I left with an entirely new outlook and a shit ton of new found respect for both ICP and the juggalos.

Definitely going to start checking out these ICP albums (Milenko and Riddlebox seem to be the place, however, I like what @robtidwell said about the new album and getting to discover it with the juggalos so that’s gonna be on the immediate check out list)  and since Dark Lotus seems to be the other popular one, I’ll check them out right away. Though I need to check out Jeckel Brothers thanks to the ODB guest spot on there.
