13 tracks in and wayyyy more J than Shaggy again..I know that’s nothing new for ICP but i feel in recent years it’s been closer to 50/50, Shaggy’s had a lot of songs already with no verses, just shit in the background, intros etc.
anyways, not sure what i think bout this all..it’s not bad though at least.

Not a fan so far. Fury seems to be the only actual good track on it. And I’ve never been about “old school is better blah blah, bring the wicked” because ICP isn’t even about that to me. This album to me mostly doesn’t sound like what I feel ICP is. I’m going to listen to it some more and see. And there’s NOTHING shocking about the last track unless you’re a 12 year old who’s never been on the internet before.

I mention prom queen because of the visceral nature of the song. Its about a kid that kidnaps and murders a girl, then dresses her up and dances with her dead body in a cellar.
I wasn’t trying to compare song quality just the images the songs evoke.
The mere fact that there is a warning before tells me one of two things.
Either they have forgotten the crowd that they play to, or more likely, the crowd is just changing. It bums me the fuck out that I C fucking P feels like they have to warn JUGGALOS that they might have their delicate sensibilities harmed. Weak as fuck.
Ehh I’m just a bitter ol bastard at this point I guess

Love 90% of the album. Tbh though, why the fuck was that the last track? I mean the songs is good for what it is, but the last track? Wasn’t even that shocking. Although J talking about torturing genitalia very specifically was….interesting.
It’s like they forgot about Fred halfway through. Freedom or Satellite should have been the final track. That or something else entirely. Shit Hawking or Be Safe would have been better for the main album.
I know they hinted that Freedom is the last track in a video they released recently, but just consider every final song on each Joker Card. Sure it’s ‘predictable’ but I always appreciated that. Just sits weird for me. Besides that one gripe this is their best work in a long time.

How is Flip the Rat cd?
I agree satellite should be the final song. Freedom shouldn’t be on the main album nor nobody’s fault.

I’ll make a “first listen, first reaction” post here track by track. I’ll try to keep it like 1-3 sentences each max.
Intro – Kind of cool, if a bit more drawn it than it needs to be.
Red Fred – I’ve always dug the 2nd track on Joker Cards, such as the title tracks of “Riddle Box”, “Great Milenko”, “Jack Jeckel”, etc. Unfortunately, this one is just not very good. J’s repetition of “Fred is _____” for his raps is about as brain dead as it gets. An oddly uninspired sounding song.
Fury! – I didn’t much like this song at first, but, it’s grown on me a bit. I still think it’s a bit muddy in the mix, but, J and Shaggy did come through pretty dope on this one.
West Vernor Ave – Obviously it’s not the most original song ever, but, I’ll be damned if that shit is not likable as fuck. I guarantee this will become a regular at their live shows, and rightfully so.
WTF! – Never liked this song. Once again, I think the mix itself is off and the whole song feels like the bass is empty or missing. When I first saw J post that they had a song called “WTF!”, I thought to myself “There’s no way it’ll just be a song where they scream ‘what the fuck!'” and it literally did become that. Not an awful song by any means, but, I think this was a missed opportunity.
Satellite – Oh this is pretty nice. Definitely a different feel for ICP but it works, so far this is the best thing I’ve heard out of Str8Jacket. The delivery of J and Shaggy kind of gave me a nostalgic feeling for some reason.
Seriously Hilarious – Another great song, sounds old school and new school all at once. Major props to J for his delivery here. The chorus is very odd and I think really creative, sweet throwback to “Everybody Rize” as well.
Gave Over – Over the past few years, I’ve grown to really appreciate and even be influenced by 8-bit music. I wish this didn’t turn so much into a “trap” kind of beat but it does work pretty damn well here. Honestly, some more classic J. And more props to Str8 on this one too, some really creative use of structure and the samples. I wish Shaggy came in with a sweet verse though.
Night Of Red Rum – Man, the Mike E Clark influence is definitely present in this song. This song would fit right in on AJB. Again, would have liked a Shaggs verse here, but this song is a total banger.
Low – Wow, did not see this coming. A take on “Time Of The Season” by the Zombies? Genius, J does a perfect job of making it creepy sounding and almost pathetic, which is intentional. Cool change-up by Shaggy. Sweet instrumental ending too.
Triple X – Oh this is pretty interesting. This would fit right in on Hell’s Pit or even Bizaar/Bizzar. The beat in the hook is super dope. Cool shit.
Nobody’s Fault – I hope this doesn’t ruin the song for anybody, but how J’s verse basically reminds me of in South Park when Cartman sings his own songs or shit like “Poker Face”. I wasn’t feeling this song at first but as it went on I started to feel it, it’s really weird. I have to say, J’s lyrics are very good, it all sounds very heartfelt whether or not it really is about himself.
Hot Head – Fuck yes, this is the type of shit I’m talking about right here. Another one of those songs that sounds old school and new school all at once. This is one of the best dark sounding songs they have done in quite a long time.
Shimmer – Classic J involved with a dead ghost girl in the closet situation, who doesn’t love that? Fantastic beat and hook, this song is a pleasant surprise.
Freedom – The classic end of (or in this case, almost end of) the album feel-good song. Another really cool beat, the J and Shaggy trade-off is quite nice. I like that it’s actually meaningful with a message and not just corny “Juggalo Party” type of shit.
Beware! – I like the build up here, good showmanship.
I Like It Rough – This is like a super graphic Three 6 Mafia song. I bet if someone found J’s notebook or whatever with his written lyrics for this song without knowing who he was or that it was for a fictional song, they would be absolutely mortified. I was actually thinking this song might just be a brain dead sex song, but, it’s much better than that. It’s totally fucked up, but it has the proper dark tone and it doesn’t come across as a joke. Yet again, would have liked a Shaggs verse, but J is in peak form here in terms of being “in character” if that makes sense and he carried this quite well. Talk about a change of pace for the closing track of a Joker Card album!
Overall, I think this album is much stronger than either the MML albums. I think Str8Jacket really stepped in and did a great job of providing a different vibe for ICP while still feeling true to their old school sound in some ways. A few of the songs are stinkers, but, there are a number of tracks I’m really feeling at the moment. J of course always has the majority of the mic time, but, Shaggy is even more lacking here than usual. That blows, but I have to give big props to J for the different styles and flows he came through with on here. This late in the game, dude’s still trying new things and growing.
Quick question, is Str8Jacket the person doing some hooks and background vocals? Of course they used to have Legs for that, then Syn, then Young Wicked, so am I correct to assume he’s the “3rd guy” in some of this?

After a day of FFF on repeat…
Satellite. Freedom. Shimmer.
Is Modern day ICP firing on all cylinders.
Hope two out of three of them are gonna be turned into Singles/Videos.
Top shelf production and lyrical content.
Even though MEC didn’t handle the production duties on it, I tip my hat to str8 jacket, Solid, consistent sound. My only gripe would be the cutting in and out of music and the overzealous use of the pitch nob on the vocals, it gets really repetitive.
Everything else was to be expected from a Jokers card.
I think they added some cuts from the ‘Brother’ Ep on this at the last minute due to the awkwardness of the “Brother” snippets on some songs.
The DJ Paul Track and like two others are decent on Flip. The rest they could have pimped for a FF because its obvious they are all mostly throwaways.
Hope they cleared all those samples, lil Flip still owes $$$$ for using the Pac Man music, lol, I know that ‘Game Over’ track cut a lot of you all deep.
