Guys… seriously I’m not even hating but             Violent J on the chorus… Singing asking hoodoo to blow his magic all over him…. with sparkle noises…. I thought this was so gay when this album dropped…. and they made a video… O_O

This reminds me of AMB’s Right Now Disco Bar chorus… but I would much rather sing to that… I’m not comfortable enough with my sexuality to sing along to this one….

Edit: Musically I like it. Lyrically not feeling it.

im sure he’s trying to correlate his age as being too mature to buy the gimmick.. i cant front.. most of the album was too corny (for lack of a better term) for me to get into.. however i felt this was one of the few convincing songs.. & for the record i dont think the gimmick is corny i just feel most of the songs lacked conviction with me.. im hoping the next project will win me over tho..

it isnt really a “maturity” thing for me.. cuz given my rap name i heavily fuck with concepts.. im sure if i heard the album 5 yrs ago i wouldve loved it.. i just need conviction nowadays for some reason.. even for icp which i shouldnt considering their gimmick.. i cant explain it..

Not feeling it. Dubbla (Hoodoo) is a good rapper, but I just can’t get into it. I don’t really have any reason, but I just don’t like it.

Warlock you fuckkng fuck… there you go.. “conviction” is the word. Dubbla looks straight up embarrassed about himself at times. If the man comes into his own, then the whole Hoodoo persona might break through .

Yeah, I think this is just something with the times, nowadays.  Everything needs to be “real” and gritty to be enjoyed.  And then the other end of the spectrum, things need to be over the top to be funny.

Like, 20 years ago, you could have a video with a guy and a girl from the waist up, looking down, and people would laugh at the dick joke.  Now you can’t get a laugh out of the crowd without a straight up (sometimes literally) dick in the lens.

On the same token, 20 years ago, ICP could come out and they’d be considered horror rap, and taken semi seriously… even though their music was 10% about their murdering exploits, 90% about their balls.

If Crystal Skull came out in 1999, there’s no doubt in my mind people would be all about it.

Another thing that kills new things is expectations.  Like, people are looking for this life-changing music.  Let’s face it, you’re not 16 anymore.  New music will probably not change your life.

I dunno.  I’m on a flu-induced rant, and I forgot the points I was trying to make.

Bottom line is I kinda dig Hoodoo.  Crystal Skull was a decent debut.  Sure there were some stinkers on there (which I guess kind of is a no no for a debut).  But overall, it’s something I can bump in the car, or play in the background.

I guess from growing up on Psy, I’m immune to strange gimmicks.  So someone might listen to it, and be like what the fuck are you listening to?  And I’d start to explain it and only then realize how “corny” it is….

makes sense to me dude.I grew up on psy too and can relate to that.

Lets get a rap group together where the gimmick is about stds, we’ll be rapping stds. Completely original.

Ultimately I like a gimmick or a story that is more metaphorical, like Tech N9ne’s Pinocchiho was a song about a dude who eats women alive when having sex, but it was really about how he felt his lust tends to destroy relationships.

the group can be called A.I.D.S.!  “Always In Demand Son!”  we can come out with herpes on our lips, have one dude named “Scratch” who is always scratchin his dick! we can have a screamer in the group to similiate the burning of his urinations!
