Mainstream is the common current thought of the majority.[1] However, the mainstream is far from cohesive; rather the concept is often considered a cultural construct.[citation needed]
As such, the mainstream includes all popular culture, typically disseminated by mass media. The opposite of the mainstream aresubcultures, countercultures, cult followings, and (in fiction) genre.
Mainstream music denotes music that is familiar and unthreatening to the masses, as for example popular music, pop music, middle of the road music, pop rap or pop rock;
Opposing mainstream music is the music of subcultures. This exists in virtually all genres of music and is found commonly in punk rock, indie rock, alternative/underground hip hop, anti-folk and heavy metal, among others. In the 1960s this music was exemplified by the music of the hippie counterculture.
so yea stop with that dumb shit just cuz you bump an indie artist dont make him mainstream now if your entire state bumped him & knew his name then yeah technically he's mainstream in that region only tho a great example to that is 360 in australia hes a mainstream household name in north america hes just about unheard of

certified gold or platinum at any point in time is mainstream to me….I wasn't including all the indie flavor he was dropping.
why??
& iLL you're a dumbass
because if I took from the list of all the folks who are in the NOW mainstream it'd be a much SMALLER list and not nearly as fun to dig in the brain for, I had more fun being technical with the CERTIFIED shit….but if we're gonna be all EXACT about the NOW possibly on their way to bigger things folks I like slaughterhouse and yelawolf see short list boring too easy to name and I don't jam new rock like that if anything I'm regressing towards WAY before my time records
