I have to disagree with all you dog lovers.

Dog are messy and inefficient when they drink. They use their tongues to scoop liquid into their mouths, making quite a mess. Cats stick the tip of their tongue in a liquid then retract it four times as quickly, bringing the liquid up in a neat column and leaving little mess. They say dogs have great hearing but a dog manages only between 67Hz and 44KHz while a cat has a hearing range of 55Hz to 79KHz.

Cats can see light levels six time lower than a human but dogs can only go about 5 times lower.

Most people think dogs rule in the sense of smell but that is only true for Bloodhounds which have close to 300 million olfactory receptors. The average cat has 200 million which beats almost all dogs except those Bloodhounds. On average, cats have better senses than dogs.

If you want to get into the whole "Green" thing, the area of land required to keep a medium-sized dog fed is larger than the amount needed to power two SUVs, roughly 0.84 hectares annually, A cat, however, requires far less energy to live, needing the equivalent of 0.15 hectares.

Many scientific studies have been done on the survivability of cats vs dogs without human involvement and in almost every test the cat wins over the dog. Cats weren't poorly bred into highly inefficient creatures like dogs.

In my google research, I kept finding that people say dogs are more "loyal" than cats... That's not loyalty - that's Stockholm Syndrome. It fits all the requirements of such.

Having had dogs and cats before, I would take a cat over a dog any day.

Found this and it makes sense: Dogs are not better than cats and cats are not better than dogs. It depends on the animal and the person who believes they own the animal. People who like dogs tend to need something that depends on them and something that gives them something they feel they don't have in their own lives. People who like cats prefer independent companions and feel complete enough to not need outside things to supplement any perceived lack.

I guess it's all down to preference. I guess I am just a cat person. I no longer have any pets but when I did, it was always a cat. I will probably never take in a pet again. Cats do just fine living outside without my help. I live where it never really freezes so they can live all year outside. And you don't even have to feed them. They catch birds and mice enough to stay very well fed.

And then ive got neighbourghs knocking at my door because there cat is missing. If it comes into my yard its fair game for food.

We have a cat lady in our street. She jas like 21 now. Its nasty. They piss on everything.     

round here, its dog people.  same shit, really, dogs pissin and shittin everywhere, yada yada.  i find that most people with more than three pets dont really take care of em.  

theres an ordinance here that youre only allowed to have x number of ambulatory pets, though, so often the 'authorities' come along, scoop em all up, and hand em out to people that actually know how to keep a pet without fuckin up their neighborhood.  

Best advoce for cay problems. When its hot, leave a can of sardines wiyh a fww holes punched in it on your roof. Sfter about a week or 2. Open that sucker up and let em eat it. They will get violently ill and wont come back.  
Doesnt hurt em. But it teaches them a good lesson.

i dont shoot cats, but then, ive almost never had cat problems.  

dog problems, on the other hand...  all the fuckin time.  i usually make at least a token effort to find the owner [or drive the things off] before i take the measure of rockin shots at em, though.  only exception to that was once, when i had a bigass pit standing between my front door and my car, growlin mad aggressively at me.  had to get to work, no time to fuck around, so that one got a big bullet to the face, and zero consideration.  

figure ive shot four or five dogs.  only three were immediately fatal.  bigger problems, though, are raccoons, opossums, shit like that.  

used to have a shitload of rats around.  one of my neighbors had the fucked up habit of storin all his trash on his back porch, and clearin it off about twice a year.  so, figure ive shot about twenty or more rats.  

started leavin the corpses on the hood of his truck.  eventually, he got the message.  between him cleanin off his garbage, and me and half the neighborhood shootin em, the rats finally vanished.  

Well, they have the second highest rate of capital punishment per capita in the country. Then again, that's with 500 or so executions since the 70's.

I also like the story of the Texan man who caught a neighbor (or something) molesting his daughter, beat the man to death, and they let him walk.
