Sounds like talk from people who know experience…..nothing wrong with that…

Back in cabals day they had to walk 5 miles to school…Uphill both ways with no shoes…

Seriously I think alot of it has to do with your upbringing. Kids don't get spanked nowadays. I may have been a 90's baby (88') but when I fucked up I got fucked up. Most of the time with a belt. Sometimes with a fly swatter. I learned not to make the same mistakes twice. When I was about ten I burned down a ten or fifteen acre field. Not on purpose mind you, we were tryna start a fire to get warm. I didn't bother to clear out a spot before I threw the match down. Well it was back in the woods and firetrucks couldn't get back there. They had to bring in fucking helicopters to put it out. I will never in life forget the beating that I got after that.

You're right though cabal. Especially americans. We are all about some instant gratification. We are spoiled by the surplus of everything around us

i hope you dont really think that you are good person now because of corporal punishment.

i took whuppins when i was little.  i resented it.  the valuable lesson that it taught me, was that my parents are 99% on my side, not 100%.

pretty good lesson, actually.

and of course, it taught me to not get caught.

You’re right man, my mother had a board she used to beat us with. I can honestly tell you, you thought twice about doing stupid shit knowing your mother had a board at home and she had a home run swing to go along with it. At the same time, I wouldn’t do it to my kids, cause, you know, it fuckin hurt. So I guess my kids would be punks lol. Who knows. I just know I couldn’t ever beat my kids.

That's a little before my days smile

In my day I had to walk twenty minutes to school but it was on two hits of acid so it would take me hours, and my backpack was always yelling at me.

Too much of anything starts to lose the magic. It was tough to admit that right there, but I guess it's true unless you're talking about love in general or something.

I thought people would get the reference but I do remember having experiences with albums back in the day outside of the album, and anytime I think of buying tapes back in the day there's always some great story around it.

Yeah scruffy actually I do. If there aren't consequences to your actions then there is no lesson learned. Goes back to the jail rehabilitation thing. Of course there are execptions Think whatever you want but putting a kid in time out isn't gonna do shit

On the whole whooping thing….My brother, cousins and kids in the neighborhood took care of that for my parents. I'd come home bloody and my mom would clean me up and give me a big hug….no matter what I did

Not me man, my mother was a bitch. I was the smallest kid in the neighborhood, everybody was older and always pushing me around. If I came home bloody my mother would tell me that I must have done something to deserve it and I would just get beat even more. In return, if the kids in the neighborhood found out your mother beat you, and because of my sister they would, you would get beat by the neighborhood kids because you’re mom’s a girl, and she beat you, in turn making you a wuss. Never mind the fact she was bigger than me and had a big ass board on her side. I don’t know if it made me a better person, unless being a little kid who’s scared to speak out loud at home is a better person. Depends on your parents I guess. My father was a great man and never hit me, unfortunetly for me, he also worked a lot.

no, youre a good person because… thats who you are, a good person.

spanking does not build a good citizen.  im living proof of that.  id submit that an adult who is affected either way by the experience of being swatted as a child, has probably got more serious issues to resolve.

this isnt a cry of injustice about the evils of spanking or any of that bullshit.  discipline your child however you wanna [within reason].

but it is the child being disciplined, not the adult of the future.  that person is responsible for themselves, they shouldnt be thinking back to spanking time as motivation for anything.  if they do, theyre still a child, and, like i said, have bigger problems.

If I came home bloody my mother would tell me that I must have done something to deserve it

yeah, i know i heard that line.  didnt get beat up more, but not much sympathy, either.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

That would have sucked. If I were to guess why my mom would never hit me is because my dad used to beat the shit out of her and my older brother. She also didn't shy away from telling me the world was fucked up with good people in it. None of that, the world is perfect shit and you're just a little bastard. Thank god and my mom for that.

You have a point there man. I half agree with you.It didn't make me a better person but more aware of the consequences of my actions. It taught me respect though that carried over into my adult life. I was a bastard of a kid. I deserved the discipline I got. It kept me in check. Just like the prospect of going to prison or jail keeps me in check now. I don't worry about spankings of course. I worry about my freedom getting taken away from me.

someone might be a bad person in their head. Someone who wants to break into a house or rape. But it's your actions that dictate who you are. It's about discipline.

For the record I don't think you should beat the fuck out of your kids. My daughter never does anything bad but if she did she would get a spanking. I taught her early that im her father not her friend so she does what I tell her without questioning it.

I’m checkin out The Watchmen on Saturday night, a band who was big in the Nineties.

Should be fun to sing along to some of the songs I rocked out to in high school.

I’d recommend watching the Penn and Teller’s Bullshit episode “Good Ol’ Days,” it goes through why people always think shit was better in the past, and suck now.

90s, sheeeit what happened to the 00’s, we in the 10’s now.

And and in the next 4 years, when someone mentions the 20s, we’ll hafta ask which 20’s, the 20’s now or the 20’s back in the olden days.
