did you really just ask why i added my opinion to a forum topic?? we might both be pretentious assholes, haha..

Drake is commercial. None of those acts sound a like at all. Well, Drake sounds like Big Sean.

smh….

okay, you think im a sheep for being turned off by too much similarity and i’ll think you’re a sheep for even being able to tolerate it.. haha..

I am an admitted pretentious asshole. But no, it’s about adding an opinion on something you don’t ever listen to as if you have.

Point being that you claim these acts are all similar when they aren’t. You listen to artists that are more similar to each other than most artists on that list. And this is a preconceived notion you have with out actually listening to the artists because you are just regurgitating what a collective has said like a sheep. I’m not a sheep because I listen to what the fuck I want. I’m a Kanye West fan among juggalos and goth kids. I get a ton of shit for it but I won’t conform to what they want and I also listen to Suicide Commando as well. I don’t pick a musical taste based on mob mentality. I don’t have a manufactured taste force fed to me by a culture which is why I don’t fit in anywhere. I am truly individual minded. The idea that anybody is a sheep purely for liking a certain type of music is a sheepish mentality. People who conform to fit in are sheep. People who follow with out questioning are sheep. I did neither. You did the later. A lot. You’re a sheep.

lol.. mainstream music is for the masses.. i listened to 2 of the songs novo posted and if i were to listen to trap on spotify id hear tracks that sound exactly the same.. genre-based music is gonna sound similar.. what ive heard from these new trap rappers have been very generic song concepts.. im sure that isnt the case across the board, which would debunk your sheep/mob mentality claim.. but you’re a piece of shit who likes to create a false narrative for people so lets see how you try to spin it..

classic juggalo shit is pretty much the only rap ive been listening to lately.. i also listen to a lot of different types of electronic music, and pop stars like miley cyrus and katy perry.. haha, so im definitely not the mainstream-hater type.. generic commercial rap just hasnt appealed to me since the crunk era.. as the new commercial rap era’s get old and nostalgic, then they grow on me.. but i cant listen to artist who sound identical..

Mainstream is what appeals to the masses, not made just for the masses. All artists want to appeal to the masses.

And I bet you listened to the first to songs with the same artist. I know it. Because XXX’s had two songs in it that both sound different in style, delivery and topic. And I know Denzel Curry doesn’t sound shit like either Skii Mask Or XXX who have similar sounds.

Genres have similar key elements. And yes, they will have generic song concepts for the genre as your favorite music has generic song concepts for the genre it belongs to. And the concepts probably don’t stray too far from the concepts you listen to.

What I’ve heard from the new trap rappers being somebody who actually listens to new trap rappers, or at least gives them a try, they sound very diverse and I can prove it.

XXXTentacion

Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Peep

Scarlxrd

$uicideboy$

Ghostmane

A$AP Ferg

A$AP Rocky

Desiigner

Travi$ Scott

Wifisfunderal

I think that’s enough.

I’m sorry if calling you out on your bullshit and proving you to be a sheep makes me a piece of shit. Actually, I’m not.

Juggalo music is actually really poppy, catchy, predictable and formulated. Much more than some of the new trap artists Warlock sheepishly perceives to be. None of those things are bad attributes IMO

Yeah i know. U probably know more about like the actual structure and wgat it looks like but i hear it.

Its funny u know?

Like theres so much to say….

I also think alot of ppl think to hard…

Like shut the fuck up and just feel the music.  Like it sounds cool…feel cool when u listen. I dunno.

All my favorites use pop and catchey tried and true sounds. And some new shit just sounds dope. I dont have time to think if they think they too cool for school or if im selling out or just buying into sone fad cool shit.

I listen to the radio.

Oh well.

I think beck said that all music is basically pop if it leaves room for interpretation aka notvtelling a story aka anything not folk.

Basically my philosophy of it.

When I describe something as poppy I use the key attributes to pop music as a genre. Like, I wouldn’t consider Rob Zombie to be pop music, but he is very poppy and formulated. While an artist like Death Grips would be the exact opposite.

Oh shit death grips is on some other shit. Its cool.

I think in the end of the day most of my favorites are basically pop. Even shit like ppls precious Ramones and misfits.

Bob started off covering Motown (this is not a cover)

Most shit I listen to is fairly poppy too. Artists like Death Grips are usually a bit challenging for me, though every once in a while I find some artist that’s really challenging musical tropes on all the right ways like some of Ho99o9 and NAH.

I can barely stand most music ive loved for the past 2 decades. I cant even listen to wicked shit anymore without yawning and flipping past it.

At first i didnt think anything of it, but ive caught myself singing XO tour life and rockstar near non stop all week.

I get the feeling ‘indie’ hip hop has sat stagnant so long theres literally nothing interesting left.

Imma start with that last sentence…

No, you sat stagnant in a genre…how can you say that you been craving something new and innovative in a genre.. wouldnt that make it a new genre?  For example, every time a chicken egg hatches, a new chicken with its own unique traits and characteristics is born, but in the end they are still a chicken…and have the same taste, gnome sayin.

We all know the cells in our body are different and change about every 7 years, so why wouldnt our state of mind, reality, thresholds, and things we find enjoyable or interesting change?

As you get older the things you do on a daily basis change, especially what kinda music you want to hear…i think you just need to get out of your box and try exploring completely different genres, besides rap…even genres you might of dabbled with in the past.

I used to kinda dig reggae, but it all sounded the same to me back then…nowadays the genre has evolved a lil bit and now consists of an amazingly talented individual called mike love…when my lil bro showed me him, i didnt even think it was considered reggae…i thought it was just influenced by it.

And that rabbithole lead to other wonderful things…i dont like EDM, but SHPONGLE is life…shpongle is tripping music at its finest, fuck that lame dance shit, shpongle will take you out of this reality.

And that lead me to shaman music, like darpan…who is from your country, Australia

My last rabbithole lead me to this…

So yes it is you…things can only be new once, thats my proof #Time

So welcome to your new found reality, like a butterfly from a cocoon…now spread your wings and fly…the world is yours for you to explore

Yeah I’d say I’m gravitating as well, but more towards Suicidalism than mainstream, although Yachty n Savage are lit af. Just don’t wanna give up the Juggalo title even tho I listen to Esham (new and old) a LOT more than I do ICP as of now. And each of his albums don’t sound similar, and each time you listen to an album again, you hear something new from it.

Fuck it tho, fuck Juggalos and Suicidalists, I AM the universe.

I’ve felt this way for a long time, welcome to what I’ve been told is the pretentious post-juggalo phase.

.

Your only in that phase for as long as you wanna be…juggalo is still what helped make you who you are today…its embedded in you…and dare i say, it is the core of who you are…

You sucked all the energy out of the culture till you cant store anymore…its time to transmute that energy and allow it to flow back to you….if you decide to transmute the juggaloism negatively, then it will come back negatively…for example, if you talk shit about it, than it wont make an effort to affect you positively… you would basically be blocking anything good from coming your way.

This is just stupid. I respect my own identity too much to label myself as anything other than myself.

@novocaine

Ay, man…

As far as your OP is concerned.

I totally “get it”.

At the same time…

It’s those kinda words that helped bring me to find a center in The Dark Carnival in the first place… so please don’t disparage your process!2

Honestly, nowadays, try playing “Basement Cuts” or “Dog Beats” for someone and try to convince them of how those tapes begat the entire ICP history…

…Then play something from ICP that was released IN THIS MILLENNIUM … and I can PERSONALLY attest to the difference of attitude you’ll get!

I got no shame in saying that I DON’T LIKE “old” ICP… but if it weren’t for all the PURE JUGGALOS *that were* down since The Front… I wouldn’t have been gifted with the Karma I’ve been given since.

Musical progression is good!

There’s a reason why Tech 9 is THE most successful underground artist to make it out… and that’s because his ears were OPEN… I mean, who else was managing to put out INTELLIGIBLE verses against a ‘break beat soundtrack’ while everyone else was fuckin’ around with just a drum machine churning out a hi-hat and a kick…!? And in return…? He gets accused of some racist shit blah blah blah…

I have PLENTY of music I was SOOOO into… but when I listen to it again (years later), I’m like, “How the FUCK did I PAY for this for so many years?!”… And that’s how “anniversary updates” and remixes and HD versions come about.

But ya know… once Twiztid runs out of OLD albums to update and fall back on… they’re gonna have to PRO-DUCE…

It’s up to you whether or not you wanna spend your time DISPROVING an OLD POINT or trying to make a new one.

Tech 9 never dropped his books. Everyone else is trying to learn his lesson.
