now i know who to off mine to, when i croak.or maybe before that, even. got anything you been seekin? if youre into it to the extent of coppin the ogs, probably nothin i got. i already offed almost all the early eighties stuff.
Anything, really, when I've got the money. Don't grab it for the value, as all my stuff has been opened and played with by my kid, by me, and in the case of the old school 12 inchers, my dad even. Buddy across the street from my grandparents house when I was a kid had the aircraft carrier, and to this day I'm still jealous of that little prick.
ditto. but i do still tend to pick up a couple hundred nfl cards every year.
Too many different varieties and brands nowadays. And, even within each brand, too many different types of "chase" cards. And so many are printed, that even the ultra-rare cards and the errors will never be worth a dime. But that feeling of opening a new pack? Man. Now you've got me thinking. I miss that feeling. I remember back when I was 12, I opened a pack of '92 Skybox and pulled an autographed Jim Kelly card. That was the find of my lifetime. I mean, I've also got other desirables, like a Topps Cal Ripken Jr rookie and an Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr rookie, but both of those I bought outright rather than pulled.
Forgot to mention I've got a comic collection from when I was a kid, too. That one, I've been considering getting back into.

brand new, unopened pack of cards is worth sumn like 60% of the retail price. speculator market killed cards.
comics, too.
every time i think about unloading collectibles, comics, cards, joes, whatever, i look into the market, and start thinkin about how easy it would be to get more, and finish off a set. then i realize that not only is that the opposite of what i intended, but also that the only point of doin it, would be so i could occasionally say, 'ive got a complete set'.
i can accomplish that just by lyin.
that aircraft carrier was the whip. but i wouldnt want one.
love to have a rattler, though.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

I have 3 boxes of comics, nothing too valuable other than my near mint Secret War 8 (1st appearance of the black spiderman suit) that's worth $60 or so. Other than that, I have some rare music like a copy of DMX's demo; a signed copy of "Sentence of Death" by German thrash metal band, Destruction; original pressing of the 1st Body Count album (with Cop Killer); rare imports, promo cds/records, demos, and even rare 8 tracks like one with all Jimi Hendrix's early recordings as a session player. I also collect Jagermeifter stuff: shot glasses, flasks, promo items from bars, etc.

Yeah, I thought about getting it graded to increase the value, but don't feel like going through all the hassle. I may put it on ebay one day, but I always see copies of it for sale.

I decided to google the whole comic book collecting thing. Almost no one nets a profit in the comic book collecting market. Most lose many time the cost the put into it but believe they have made money because one comic they had may sell for more than they paid but the total of everything else they buy nets them with a substantial loss. Yes there are stories of the rare individual who makes a lot on selling comics that justifies it all but it is so rare and unlikely that it would never be considered a good investment.
In fact the ROI of comics is extremely low compared to taking the same amount of money spent and just putting it into the bank and letting compound interest increase the amount for the 30 or so years it takes for comics to increase enough to seem worth it. Even comics that increase in value, very rarely increase over the rate of inflation.
All in all, comics are considered one of the worst investments you can ever make.

'investing' in comic books [for a profit... ha!] is as dumb as 'investing' in cans of pop. always has been.
if you collect comics, it should only be because you read comics. thats what theyre for.
and, as has already been pointed out, nowadays the things go for a fin or more, each issue. kinda a lot, for twenty-odd pages, once a month.

i never understood teh whole collecting comic books thing.
i figure if you get your hands on something rare as hell for cheap, cool but it cant really be profitable. unless you live 1000 years.
i stopped 'collecting' comics when i was like 15 because i lost interest and gave most of them away.
now i collect things i can turn a profit on in the short term. simpsons/coke/etc memorablia is always good if you pick it up cheap.
i have a few sets of beer glasses and shit ive been meaning to sell, beer steins and shit like that. i turn a decent profit. i bought a large stock of soy candles a few years ago from a company that went bust, spent about 2 grand and made ten times that back in profit. thats probably the best ive ever done.
And energy drinks, buy em by the pallet for 2 bucks a carton and sell them for a tenner out the boot of my car. that kept me afloat for about 6 months when i first got my liscense.

Spores, mold and fungusIt's crazy how you can order prints of pretty much ANY mushroom, psylocibin or otherwise, on the Internet and it's legal to own in most states. For "research" or whatever.
Yep. Legal to buy and own since the spores do not contain any illegal chemicals. But in most states it is illegal to cultivate the spores you legally have.

Actually, in a case such as mine, I wouldn't doubt I would see a net profit if I were to liquidate what I have. When I was collecting, the most expensive issues were $1.99 apiece, and the last time I checked my collection had an average value of around 8 bucks apiece. So, even if I were to sell to a shop at 50% value (which is the norm), I'd still see a 200% profit overall.
This is primarily because I didn't collect for very long, so my expense was never very high to begin with. And I had better than average foresight on picking which comics to buy as far as value's concerned.

I collected comics mostly just to read them, but I did buy a few on sale that have increased in value. I talked to a local comic shop owner, and he said selling on ebay was better than trying to sell to a shop. But he may have just not felt like dealing with me, it's hard to say. I guess I'm alright with just holding onto them a while, the rare ones will only get more scarce as years pass.
