write this down, rap scholars…similes =/= metaphors.
“If you want your verses to cost higher
than your similes gotta be hot as a live wire
You need some better metaphors for example
this song is a warzone and you listeners in the cross fire”
-Crooked I
thats dope..
“You need to stay in the background like a green screen
say my name so much you should be on my street team” – Otis

Chino XL has created mind-bending verses. One sentence from him trumps anything by Milo, I mean Otis. Even both Asperger’s Boys together, on Adderall and adrenaline shots, with Dr. Dre producing and acting as mentor with Marshall Mathers ghostwriting rhyme concepts and pro tips, would not even compare to a single punchline delivery from Chino after a debilitating automobile accident. I would rather jam icepicks into my eardrums and feel Chino lyrics through braille while having a kidney stone than having my cock repeatedly thrust into an 18 year old just-deflowered pussy while Otis was in an almost inaudible earshot.
Using Chino XL against Otis in metaphor and simile play is unfair, Cell. Play fair, now.
Perhaps try Otis and his rhymes against a rapping Dik-Dik for better results… Otis would win that battle, like at least 3 out of 5 times.

Otis has gotten better over time. Admittedly, all he’s done is learn how to chop, which isn’t much to brag about, but it’s something. Which is more than either of those borderline parodies of Juggalos were ever able to contribute to Psychopathic before.you must not know lyricism..
Please explain how Otis is a great example of lyricism lol. If that’s your argument of course. I guess it’s possible that I’m reading it wrong. I hope I am. Fuck do I hope that I am.
multis, metaphors, punchlines… hes a very well rounded writer.. more so than most of the artist from psys history..
I’ll give you his multis are better than most of the artists from psy history. That’s not much to brag about though. Put him up against any other actual lyricists and he’s pathetic. Still on a double syllable level and he, occasionally by chance, throws in some internal rhymes.
I’m not familiar with any metaphors he’s done. I might be wrong so feel free to quote me some. I’ve heard him use amateur hour similes but that’s not the same thing, unless of course you don’t know what you’re talking about.
His punchlines? Really? Shit, go listen to some Chino XL if you think that Otis has good punchlines.
He’s absolutely not a well rounded writer. His concepts always blur together, his imagery is lacking to the point of almost nonexistence, and he never, ever strays away from more than one of three styles.
i saw chino xl live a couple months ago and was straight laughing at em.. wordsmith is not impressive.. i laugh at monos recent similes as well.. idk, otis impresses me with his shit..
I would expect nothing less from someone that considers Otis a lyricist. It’s quite possible that wordsmith went over your head. Like, so far over your head that it went too high up, fell from orbit, crashed down on your scull and caused you to think that Otis is a lyricist.
lol please quote somethin from it you think is hot..
As far as this go, I leave you deader than disco
I’ll knock you to the asphalt, it’s your own ass fault
wow @ the level of cheese in this.. there was one line that impressed me.. dont remember what it was tho..

–that happened.
“State to state we ran some, I wasn’t worth no ransom
Money, won’t you hand some, a nigga wasn’t handsome
Raised the mind like Charles Manson’s
new I was some man’s son but which one
that made me strong, created my poison tongue”
Need me to explain that to you? That green screen line that you think is the shit would imply that I do.

He didn’t have a father, which made him tough but also made him become what most would consider a lower class citizen. The cards have been stacked against him but all of these things have allowed him to become the artist that he is today.
That’s not a particularly original story but the fact that he told all of that in a couple bars while using NOTHING but wordplay is very impressive.

[Verse 2: Chino XL]
My saliva’s lava, the wicked anomalous scholar
The author composing your broken bones into an orchestra
Burn in Heaven, no weapon can harm me
These homos been in the closets so long I’ma donate them to Salvation Army
Calmly tearing ya flesh like the claws of a falcon
Write songs till my wrist develops Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
And there’s no feeling in my right thumb, my knuckles white and numb
You should see the muscular development in my forearms
I’m sworn human heron from here on
Consider Chino XL Monster, fuck Charlize Theron
You cling on to life like a skinny Luther
I’m like an aircraft carrier going to war with a Mini Cooper
Getting used to being crazy
As a double jointed female doctor bent over, delivering her own baby
Anti-Medical, non-preventable
Make you and a dead man identical
Sound alarms, I’m well armed, like an octopus tentacle
Bust ten of you, trust none of you
I’m the murdering minister when God is upset at you
Right on schedule, calligraphers spit a comprehensible
Poison Pen always the illest, today he’s exceptional
Slaying professional between big deals
I get jobs at McDonalds and throw cyanide pills into kids meals
I slaughter individum ear to ear till they breathing out of fish scales
Every lyricist kneels to my internal, incurable inferno
I beat a niggas haircut into crop circles
Hear the smotherless pain
Be the main attraction in a circus how I can juggle your jugular vein

for me, I think the problem with Otis is that he comes off as super amateur. They never developed him. They got their shot and kinda just hung around rather than turning into something dope.
I honestly like HooDoo even though he isn’t a strong rapper. I think his raps, despite being not that brilliantly constructed, talk about a world I see. I think they pushed the gimmick a bit too hard and I think he’s at best a mediocre rapper, but I don’t care because I like the story and I can -feel- it.
I wish they would have worked with him more to really help take him to the next level instead of just putting them out as they were. Someone up thread said something like he’s an average guy who got access to a good studio and equipment and that’s exactly it. There’s nothing exceptional about him or the way he hits that studio. He’s getting better. His beats are getting better. His rapping is getting faster but I don’t know if that’s enough. Chopping is cool but you can hear him gasping between parts and it sounds awful and distracts me. I can’t even focus on the raps in some of the shit he’s on.
Hopefully he’ll keep improving but I can’t say that I would even notice if he dropped an album.
On the Marz tip, I really liked Marz’s Lung Fu Mo She album and his Gorilla Pimpin album that came out after the BS between him and Psy. Back A Da Club, Cut Throat (with Jonathan Davis), and a few others were HARD. And the girl I was dating at the time liked his sex and club shit like sadatay and the bonnie and clyde song whose name I forget were her favorites.

You explained what I was getting at much clearer. Like there is this dude I know who is a semi famous hip hop producer now. Worked with KRS-ONE and Joe Budden, etc… being flown out to Dubai with artists, album cover trying to look thuggish next to the artist when he is just a Mike P style nerd. And thats cool, more power to him. If I were raised wealthy with the time and access to all that pretty equipment he always had? Who knows.
