I just don’t understand what the purpose of posting the NAMES of SONGS as anything promotable for an upcoming album…

It’s like if a video game just released the NAMES of the stages and nothing else; “Oh look! There’s one called Desert Level! I bet that one’s got SAND in it! … and then there’s one called Robot Forest! I bet that’ll be a scary one!…”

Or it’s like a painter advertising his new artworks by releasing a list of COLORS he used to make them; “There’s gonna be some with red in it…. maybe some blue… a couple with puce.”

Considering most song names are ironic or puns or plays on words, what’s in a name? Is it some kind of game we “get to” play until we can actually hear the songs and be all, “OOOhhh! THAT’S what they meant! Golly, I feel so vindicated!”

‘Splain it to me, meng!

the function is obvious:  its somethin to say.

marketing has to have some kind of point to it.

exactly.

a commercial, nothin more significant than that.

what you should be askin, cheshyr, is:  what is the function of giddily speculating over song titles as if they actually inform you of anything?

totally agree with you. now if they released a single along with the tracklisting, that would make sense (or a sampler, god i miss how great the 2000 and 2001 samplers were)

on a serious… desert level does sound amazing

i cant imagine why this is a sticking point for you, but ill just say that ‘nothing’, means, well, nothing.  at all.

you knew this, and i dont feel like debating semantics over such a dumb point, so…

What is the better marketing scheme? Sometimes not talking about the project does generate more publicity from the media and the fans themselves as compared to paid promotions, but its a balancing act. If your at the point where no one cares about you and u pull that stunt…your dumb. But i dont think it applies to the clowns. No one cares and it works.

Well it sure got us talking about it. Good or bad, we are doing the advertising for them. Maybe not to a lot of people but for the cost of putting out a tracklist, they got their money’s worth.

Because, that’s why. I always thought it was fun to think about what the track is gonna sound like and the concept of it. Maybe I’m a dummy, but just the track list alone has me even more excited than I was before.

It is kinda pointless but so what?

Then that’s why they do it. For people like you who get excited about it. It’s all worth it if it adds just a little bit to the experience.

For the ones that don’t get excited over the track list, then it wasn’t done for you.

What get one person excited is of course not always going to get the next one excited. Look at what kind of things excite @sean-law , I think those things would scare most people. :P

I’m not complaining.  But I do think it’s silly.  They can call a song, “Dog Farts,” but it’s a metaphor for something else, and turns out to be a good song.  They can also call a song something cool like, “Book of Revelation” and it’s just Violent J gargling mouth wash for 3 minutes.

I dunno i just see it as something to tie me over. Im lije whaaat let me read em. I read say oh cool or fa sho then i kinda forget about them. But the waiting hush hush gots me on the edge of my seat
