^ Well, I’m not as young as I used to be (I’m 34). Once I did my Disney College Program, I considered dropping out and moving to Florida to pursue a career with Disney. A big part of me wishes that I had since I could have developed a really nice career there.

After my first semester, I knew that I didn’t want to pursue a journalism career because the school and education was so bad. But everyone kept saying “It will get better. You just have to get into the more specialized classes and you will start to like it a lot more.” Well, it definitely didn’t get better. By the time that I realized that it was only getting worse and worse, I was too far in to change my major. There was NO WAY IN HELL that I was going to spend even one day longer than necessary in school, so I decided to trudge through it and get the journalism degree, then pursue whatever career fell into my lap. Five years later, that happened to be insurance. I bet my same story is repeated a thousand times over every year, on every campus in the world.

I’m definitely a proponent of taking time off before college to decide what you really want to do. Not many people know what they want to do at 18. Jules at 22 knew a hell of a lot more than Jules at 18 since Jules at 22 actually had real world experience, and not just the info about college that they force fed me in high school. But scholarships are almost always only available to people who have just graduated high school, so people are screwed if they don’t go then. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

“I’ve come this far, spent all this time and cash, might as well finish” ~ sad but true reality. Then you got peeps like my wife who have degrees and have to keep doing more and more stupid certifications and tests OUTSIDE of college just to teach. Plus they cost $$$$… fuck the system
