To the folks complaining that they want the wicked shit and feel that they are not getting it from insane clown posse please define what you consider wicked shit and how ICP should do the “wicked shit”. Please try to refrain from using older material as an example because the old shit is everyone’s flavor and the subject is about new material.

= rapping about whatever you want. I feel J explained this rather well on Hot 97 interview. Even if you’re rapping about fried dough and Confetti Crisp, assraping gypsies, stealing foodstamps from people using a time machine, donating to vegan charities, nun sack races, happy shit, bad shit, smelly shit, etc… it’s just rapping about what YOU or your crew wants, and not trying to adhere to a formulaic sound or common themes.

When ICP rap about “clubbing”, they aren’t popping Crystal and flossin’ diamonds, they’re rapping about a scrub crack addict imagining stalking a girl who doesn’t even exist. That’s the wicked shit.

Fucking a barrel of toxic waste, asking how magnets work, cotton candy as a pussy metaphor, or cake mix as a pussy metaphor, or pink cookie… that’s all wicked shit. Rapping about what you want.

Kool Keith, Esham, Necro… Fuck mainstream topics and mainstream production.

Violent J says a lot of shit. Wicked shit is the the original name for horrorcore. That’s it. Fuck anybody that says different.

When ICP rap about “clubbing”, they aren’t popping Crystal and flossin’ diamonds, they’re rapping about a scrub crack addict imagining stalking a girl who doesn’t even exist. That’s the wicked shit.

But they do, actually. And no, that’s not the wicked shit.

Fucking a barrel of toxic waste, asking how magnets work, cotton candy as a pussy metaphor, or cake mix as a pussy metaphor, or pink cookie… that’s all wicked shit. Rapping about what you want.

Nope. Wicked shit requires a horror or “wicked” theme to it. Pussy metaphors are done through out hip hop. Lil’ Wayne does it the most. Would you call Lil’ Wayne wicked shit? No. Because he’s not horrorcore.

Kool Keith, Esham, Necro… Fuck mainstream topics and mainstream production.

All do horrorcore. Rap with a heavy horror theme. Which is done in mainstream and is a mainstream topic. Eminem does wicked shit. Tyler, The Creator does wicked shit. Desiigner does wicked shit. And for somebody who says “fuck the mainstream” you sure do pick the poppiest trend riding artists in not only the underground but in horrorcore it’s self. Like, ICP was doing gangster rap shit when gangster rap shit was mainstream. Then they jumped on that alternative numetal rock rap sound when that became popular in the mainstream. Then they started doing this southern sounding alternative rock stuff when that became popular in the mainstream. And now they rap over edm inspired beats because it’s what’s popular in the mainstream. Shit, not only are you deluding yourself into thinking you’re part of something different, but you should ultimately stop caring about a stupid label like ‘mainstream’ and just learn to appreciate music regardless of status. If you really were against the tropes and trends of music you’d go jump on the Deathgrips bandwagon. Put on some Mooremother. Nope. You pick the guys with simple lyrics and catchy hooks and trendy beats because they tell you they are different.

Wicked shit has always been this angry and dark rap music with heavy horror themes. They rarely do that sound anymore. And when they do it’s often times not done well. With horribly corny lines and half assed songs. But they still have some great new shit. Like Vomit or Falling Apart or The Dream. A lot of their newer shit is just a lot less dark. They still do wicked shit but they focus more on their brand of humor than the wickedness or hard hitting stories like they used to. It’s like the first Nightmare on Elm Street compared to other titles later in the series. The first one was dark, gritty, different and twisted and Freddy had a small bit of a sense of humor. As the series progressed Freddy become more silly than scary because they started to focus more on Freddy’s sense of humor and fleshing out the silly side of the character rather than the dark, frightening and mysterious nature of the original to the point where the movies started becoming a parody of it’s self and that’s how I feel about ICP. Not only that, but I just haven’t been able to get into them much anymore. I’ve just been over their immature brand of humor for a long time, probably since I was sixteen, and now that that’s become more of a staple than the dark stories that I originally loved. Plus, they do Christian pop. There is no denying that shit they have made his Christian pop with swearing to make it oh so edgy. So to your point, they do wicked shit. Just not as wicked.

Regardless, despite most of their music becoming a terrible after school special I still support as long as there is at least a few hard hitting songs and most of their albums have that. And I notice that I do typically enjoy their albums on first few listens but the hype quickly fades and after a month or two I no longer have a desire to hear the album. Except Found. That album was pretty much garbage to me. The intro title track was Okay, but soon as they got to the goofy ass pop shit like We’ll Be Okay the momentum was destroyed.

well 1st of all im not one of the complainers but to me “the wicked shit” has 2 connotations.. i prefer it over horrorcore.. to me horrocore is the commercial/wack/generic  dark/horror/evil raps.. while “wicked shit” is essentially it done correctly, haha.. however, at one time i def considered juggalo shit in general to be “the wicked shit”.. i think “death rap” is a great genre name.. and to me any song that’s mostly about sex is a “sex rap”

i feel that songs like hate her to death, falling apart, & lost at the carnival is ICP doing the wicked shit correctly.. and really schoolin it, in the modern era…

No, it’s all the same.  And like I said, fuck anybody that tries to say differently. Esham, the guy who coined the term, called his shit wicked shit when he was doing horrorcore. When he started being more experimental he called it acid rap because acid influenced his ideas. Nobody that does horrorcore likes being called horrorcore because typical horrorcore sucks and they don’t want that stigma attached to them so they try to add a degree of separation by calling it something different even though it’s the same.  Horrorcore, wicked shit, murder rap, gore hop, death rap, it’s all the same.

But ICP are like the definition of commercial horrorcore. Horrorpop, that’s what GTA called them. All of psy is the most commercial sounding horrorcore out there. They follow the most trends and are the most conventional.  It might be better, and a little less cliche than a Scum but it’s much MUCH more commercial and mainstream in every way. They follow typical verse chorus formats on most of their songs. They do the simple catchy lyrics. They rarely go outside of the mainstream song writing formula. They use trendy production. The poppiest shit in the genre. They are the Wale’s or Drake’s of horrorcore.

I would love for ICP to return to their characters. 2 wicked clowns from Southwest Detroit who got fucked up from toxic waste and now persue vigilante justice. Over sample heavy Mike E Clark beats.

Basically I want them to be INSANE CLOWNS more.

i know for sure he said acid rap on judgement day.. which is still pretty early on..

i agree with this statement as well.. however, i still wish there was a cool name for the “good stuff” that majority agreed on..

also to me, when im categorizing stuff.. tyler the creator, hopsin and g-mo are shock value.. yup, in the same lame lane as gordy..

to me, commerical horrorcore is gravediggaz, flatlinerz.. yes, ICP arguably have a more pop/easier to digest sound but theres still a level of creativity in the song-writing that far exceeds typical horrorcore..

lol.. the drake of horrorcore in terms of success.. you make it sound like their entire career sounds like death pop.. being experimental doesnt make something better..

Yes, they are all commercial. Yes they are more creative than typical horrorcore. Can’t just rename them or deny the genre over it’s bad reputation though. It’s what annoys me about Tyler when he says he’s not horrorcore.

In terms of poppy music. Completely. They sound different, very, but follow the same pop formula. They are a lot like Marilyn Manson. He’s really fucking poppy. Especially for his lane. A lot of people in that lane don’t like Marilyn because of that. Would I compare him to Brittany Spears sonically? Fuck no. But he does make catchy commercial songs.

being experimental doesnt make something better..

I’m not saying that at all. I never said ICP suck because they are poppy, I just said that they are poppy in response to everybody talking shit on mainstream music. Like all of Great Milenko was poppy. It followed that numetal rap sound that was blowing up back then too. If people hate mainstream music so much then why are they picking the most commercial music in this genre to represent them? It’s like, quit worrying about something’s title or label or how cliche or commercial or experimental or different something is and just enjoy music. It’s a pet peeve of mine. Like when people that listen to cliche Tech N9ne wanna be choppers jump on the ‘fuck mumble rap’ bandwagon even though Travi$ Scott raps as well as any of those guys.

i like pop music.. a lot.. i dont hate on stuff just cuz it has mainstream success.. or mass appeal.. commercial hip hop in particular is generally very unoriginal tho.. thats my pet peeve, the fact that 100s of hair bands sound identical to iron maiden.. 1000s of horrocore juggalos who growl, and the fact that when im in the strip club i cant tell the difference between drake and kendrick.. labels just help define why you like and dislike something, i dont have a problem with ’em..

I wrote this shit like three years ago in a different thread and it still stands :

Its about the content and not the beats for me. Not only rapping about stabbing people with precision but also about mental instability and the inner struggle that goes in inside our minds

It’s about the dark seedy part of the psyche that exists in all of us. Its talking about death and what might come after, whether it be a hell a purgatory or nothing at all.

its talking about ghosts and demons.

Its talking about substance addiction and failed relationships

All of these things we fear.

Thats what I love about it. With country or pop there are boundaries to what subject you can talk about, but when it comes to horrorcore it is virtually limitless

Regardless of bjs delivery Kendrick’s voice is incredibly distinctive. Drake and Kendrick don’t sound anythinga alike.
