If you show me a 28 year old man who calls anyone to cry for an hour over anything I will show you person who needs more constructive outlets for their emotions… I probably cried a total of an hour today in total…but I literally spent three combined hours in shifts with the corpse of one of my closest homies directly next to me open casket…just saying…

Thank you scruffy (I almost hit you up on your cell on the humble to talk about this and might still).

anytime, yo.

Word.

On the real though Im curious how many people have spent a bunch of time around an open casket with one of their homies in it.  The reason I was there for a combined three hours was first and last to say my goodbyes, to assist younger homies in the crew who wanted me to come with them, and finally to hold court and give support to his two brothers that wanted me and one of my homies with them to share stories….still it was weird as fuck honestly and a lot of time to spend around a corpse.

TLDR Ive been to over a dozen funerals but never have spent that much time around the casket.  Usually I just roll in, say my peace leave something and roll out…is it that common to chill there in a room with a dead ninja for hours…or am I weird as fuck for not caring…

I been to countless funerals. In my family, we throw a party when someone dies. Not a wake, a party. Mariachi’s and the taco man and everything with the casket there.

Damn, dude that’s really shitty. I’ve lost some people to drugs (not even “heavy” ones in one instance) and it always felt like life made a mistake or somethin. Like, it wasn’t suppose to happen. Time doesn’t fix it but it certainly makes it a little easier.

I got a new number like last week so if you need an outside source to vent to or anything, message me on here and I’ll give you the new one. Even if you need to just call, cry for a solid hour and hang up without sayin shit that’s cool, man.

Condolences everywhere in this bitch.

Thanks homie.  PM me that shit regardless…That way we can hook up the earliest in our Gathering this year as possible. I really liked kicking it with you and Mary and Glo feels the same.  I had my homie that you reminded me of with me all day today and actually told him about you.  He is a talented videographer and actually wants me to introduce him to @scottied at the gathering next year to see if he can get a shot shooting something for the site.  If you two meet tho there can be only one…..

Yeah, I’m hoping we have the same setup this year Mary and I have been missin it since we left (well, about two weeks after. Two weeks of plague made me regret every decision I had made in my life). Uh, I don’t know the guy but listen…I can ddt a mofo out of nowhere. Dude won’t see it comin.

I’d prefer you not call me cryin and shit but eh, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I usually bail out of funerals early if I even go so naw, I think that’s normal. That’s shits for the living anyway. If it doesn’t help you, there’s no point (to me anyways). It’s typically a situation where family mourn at the funeral/viewing and friends chill afterwards and share stories. Not sure if it’s a “party” like Rob said but it’s definitely a similar concept.

@ocj_brendan first off, my condolences homie.  There have been far too many instances of this in recent years.

As far as your homie, have him send me links and stuff.  It’d be awesome to have another videographer to go to!

There are a lot of folks in here that have lost homies to a needle. Makes me sad. I’ve never personally known anyone addicted to heroin. I was a huge meth head for about 8 yrs. I lost a step father to an o.d. …. Hard timez. After I got off the dope train almost everyone I knew, friends and relatives, all ended up bangin dope. Nasty habit. I’ve seen people I love turn into fiends right in front of me.

Stay strong and keep yo heads up.

At my mom’s “funeral” (if you can call six or seven people gathered in a public park with a county-issued plastic box full of ashes a funeral) my best friend at the time and I danced with the urn. Pass Me By was one of the songs played. Kind of freaked out the other guests, they were afraid we’d drop the urn, but w/e.

Sorry for your loss, Brendan. Never dealt with heroin, but my mom got HIV and Hep C from the meth needle, it’s what did her in. Watching her degrade is what kept me off of damn near everything, I think. It was ghastly.

celle2057, @bayareashaman , @novocaine, @skratchie, @potato-tan, and @scottied Thank you so much for your condolences.

To Scottie:  Ill see how serious he really is before I send anything your way.  He is top tier in my crew and is my lil brother basicly but I don’t wanna waste your time and haven’t seen anything he’s done recently cuz I think it took a back seat to him being a dad.

To Potato:  Wow Im sorry for your bum hand homie.  Ive got another homie whose Mom is dying of a wicked combo of Hep C, Degenerative Disk disorder, and Emphysema. Its painful to watch her deteriorate and his family has kinda a mixed blessing in the form of her dad having left a fortune to his only daughter.  My boy’s step dad loves her but is squandering tons of it on treatments to prolong her painful as fuck life…I understand tho cuz Id do whatever I could to save my girl…

I got pretty lucky with that stuff.  When I was 17 I took off and moved to Colorado and I was living in an apartment with a couple of dudes who had just gotten out of jail.  One of them had a serious prediliction for hard drugs.  He was in a methadone program but had never been addicted to heroin, he just loved methadone.  He did some smack so he would fail a test and also marked up his arms with a needle for effect and they accepted him.  Of course he got addicted to methadone built up a tolerance to it so that the doses they were giving him weren’t enough to get him fucked up real quick.  What a stupid fucking thing to do.  Anyways both of them were living on public assistance, which wasn’t shit, I think they had maybe $150 left for the month after rent.  I always cashed their checks for them and took the rent out, which was good thinking on my part.  One time the methadone guy decided he was gonna buy some coke after he got his check.  I actually wanted him to get me some at first, but he wouldn’t, which pissed me off at the time but was pretty cool of him in retrospect. He came home, shot it up, and then about an hour later went out to get more.  Then he did that again, and again, and again, until all his money was gone in one night.  The look on his face the whole time was awful, you could tell he was just completely out of control.  After seeing that I steered clear of hard drugs, I did not want to run any risk of ending up like that dude.

I lost a relative a couple years ago to a heroin OD, not one I was close with but she was only 20 years old.  I don’t think she was that deep into it at all, she just got some shit that was a lot more pure than what she was used to.

Anyways hope you’re doing OK.

My mom got diagnosed when I was pretty young; six or so. She used to swear she’d live to see me graduate high school. I got my GED about a month before she died.

The last time I saw her in person, she was basically incoherent, and it was heartbreaking. She was living in a hotel off of her SSI benefits. I don’t like thinking about it. I was two states away when she went into ICU, and gave the DNR over the phone. She couldn’t form sentences, at that point, but I distinctly remember, when I told her goodbye, and that I love her, she told me she loved me, back.

I suppose it could have been wishful thinking, but the cadences are something I would recognize.

You’re very welcome. Shit’s rough. I’ve lost a lot of folks in my life because of heavy drug use … some are still breathing but have killed every aspect that made them the person they were prior to their addictions. Fucking sucks.

Hope you’re feeling better.
