Because what's important is Angela Davis's hair, not the fantastic answer she gives to the question of violence from the black Panthers, her prison reform work, or even the fact that she lost a teaching job because of her loose association to an anti-racist organization. She let her hair grow naturally as a rejection of European beauty standards and ewww that's so ugly man i bet she doesn't shave her pits too.

It may or may not have been. He wasn't entirely wrong though. I mean, look at what nonviolence did for Dr. King. 

In the fight against racial injustice, the audience benefit from the suppression of people of color and are the opponent.

Even MLK saw that much.
