The Barrie Examiner covers Twiztid’s Canadian “Juggalo Invasion” Tour

There’s a pretty decent article/interview that flew under the radar over the past couple of days.  A website called The Barrie Examiner took some time to speak to Monoxide about their upcoming Canadian Juggalo Invasion Tour!

The article gives bulletpoints over their entire 20+ year career including highlighting their stint in the Backyard Wrestling video game series, their record sales, details on their VIP packages, their upbringing, and more!  Check out the full article below.

From TheBarrieExaminer.com:

Twiztid, a rap duo out of Detroit, launch their Canadian tour in Barrie next week.

It will also be the first time the duo has performed in this city, despite an almost two-decade-long career.

This is their third tour of Canada and they have a special treat planned for fans.

“We’re announcing the name of the new record at the meet-and-greet for each show. Canada knows first,” said Paul Monoxide, adding that the duo does a meet-and-greet like no other.

“It’s the greatest VIP meet-and-greet experience that anybody could ever imagine,” he said. “We’ve watched other bands and taken everything they do wrong and corrected it.”

That means that the event is not limited. Autographs and photos with the artists are allowed and they more than happy to talk people and shake hands.

It’s just one of the elements that has garnered the duo a legion of fans over the years.

That and shared passion for all things horror — movies, comics and the like.

Along with their massive social media/web presence, Twiztid has become one of the world’s most popular independent hip-hop acts. They have sold more than a million albums worldwide, all of which have charted on Billboard’s Top 100.

Monoxide and Jamie Madrox are touring in support of their latest album, The Darkness, and will be performing their new material as well as a “hodgepodge” of songs from their catalogue of 12 full-length albums and EPs.

Their music runs the gamut from hardcore hip-hop to rock with infectious beats, elements of humour mixed with sinister lyrics that are sometimes laced with swear words. Theatrical elements are also evident.

Their new record starts with the skit Why Won’t You Answer which is one of several on the 19-song CD.

Their music is on the soundtrack for the PlayStation game Backyard Wrestlin’ where Twiztid is also a playable character.

Both men have appeared in the past as actors, in the best-selling DVD feature comedy Big Money Hustlas in 2000, the 2012 sequel Big Money Rustlas as well as the feature-length pilot episode of Over/Under, starring Steve Pasquale and Anthony Carrigan, which aired in 2013 on USA Network.

They are also working on their own movie, their first, which they plan to release sometime in the next year.

Their enjoyment of the horror genre came out of the streets of Detroit where they grew up. It was a dangerous place, where the majority of their friends either died or ended up in jail.

Monoxide first met Jamie Madox, defending him from a bully. He didn’t know him at the time, nor did he realize they lived within a couple of streets of each of other, but after Monoxide came to his aid and ‘clubbed some heads together’ they have been friends ever since.

“There are no parameters of expression through horror. You can go as far as you want science fiction, paranormal. The imagination to us is the most terrifying thing in the world so that’s why we love it,” he said. “Horror plays immensely on the imagination and someone through that they find relief instead of doing something to themselves or someone else.

“We were all dealt a hand and to sit back and blame life isn’t fair. If we can get past it as musicians and artists (who are) shunned in mainstream America. We understand we don’t make music for everyone, (but) we stay true to ourselves and that’s what we want them (everyone) to do.

“We’re not pushing death we pushing life.”

Both men escape the neighbourhood they grew up in and now live with their families in suburban Detroit. Each has two children.

Twiztid’s Canadian Juggalo Invasion Tour lands in Barrie on Tuesday, March 22 at The Roxy Theatre, 46 Dunlop St. W.

Additional acts include: Blaze – Ya Dead Homie, Boondox, Lex The Hex Master, Trilogy.

Doors open at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25, available at www.ticketweb.ca.
