Early on twitter, i came a cross an upcoming play that will be focusing on Juggalos. The play is entitled, “Juggalicious,” it will be premiering this August at the New York International Fringe Festival.

Juggalicious is listed a drama/comedy that will last 1 hour and 50 minutes. The viewings for this play are being held at The Robert Moss Theater @ 440 Studios, which is located at 440 Lafayette Street in New York, NY.

The New York International Fringe Festival is taking place from August 8th until August 24th. Tickets for the festival are schedule to go on sale in July. I have posted a description of the play along with a couple videos that were posted on youtube about this below.

What is a Juggalo? Not just a fan of the Insane Clown Posse. Being a Juggalo being part of a family. When Ice Pete, a young Juggalo from Alabama, discovers that his grandmother, Mammy, is in need of a new kidney, he and his friends Fluffy, Hatchett, and Twista take drastic but misguided means to insure her survival, journeying to the Gathering of the Juggalos and ultimately into the heart of the Dark Carnival itself.

Juggalicious is a dark comedy about of a group of fans devoted to the music and theology of the horror-core rap group, The Insane Clown Posse. These individuals, who define themselves as “Juggalos” have a communal devotion and adherence to religious and spiritual philosophies put forth through the albums of this rap group; a group who have been dubbed by Rolling Stone to be the “worst band in the world”. Yet, the Juggalos are representative of a social demographic; specifically the ostracized, the alienated, and the impoverished persons in American society. Juggalicious strives to explore themes of class-consciousness, the dichotomy between the privileged and the unprivileged, and in addition the fragmentation of the nuclear family. At its core, this play is about the human struggle against the immovable obstacles of poverty and abuse, and the drastic, though often destructive, measures one may take in order to overcome.

Juggalicious bears a contemporary relevance specifically because of the recent legal entanglements surrounding The Insane Clown Posse. In 2013 the FBI elevated the Juggalos to gang status, based merely on a series of isolated crimes committed by individuals identifying as Juggalos. This, in turn, has lead to unnecessary harassment by law enforcement officials towards a group of individuals simply because they have a particular taste in music.  In response, The Insane Clown Posse has sued the FBI in order to get Juggalos removed from the FBI’s gang classification. The ACLU recently came to their aid, and they continue to fight against the criminal stigma associated with their fans. On a political level, this promises to be a landmark legal case in Free Speech and will set certain standards in the American Justice system regarding gang classifications.
