Our homie Hodge from Myzery‘s camp just hit us up with a MASSIVE update covering everything from he and DJ Clay teaming up on a few tour dates, new shit goin’ down in the studio, what Myzery has planned for the 14th annual Gathering of the Juggalos, his comments about his homies ICP landing the top spot on GQ’s Worst Rappers list, and finally, his top 10 things to see at the Gathering this year!  It’s a good read, and you’ll get all filled in on the latest happenings with OG Ryda Myzery!  Now, brace yourselves for a grip of news:

MYZERY AND DJ CLAY ARE BACK AT IT AGAIN…

Greetings from Myzery Camp!  First things first, I wanted to give a heads up to all the AZ and New Mexico area fam about some upcoming performances on DJ Clay’s “Scratch the Surface” tour.  On July 27 and 28 Myzery will be joining up with the turntable maestro himself to properly prepare everybody for that annual Shangri-La, aka GOTJ 2013, happening right around the corner.  Myz will be in full effect with all kinds of classics from his back catalog, as well as some future favorites that nobody’s even heard of yet.  And seeing as how this is the new DJ Clay tour, of course he’ll be performing his banger- “I ain’t a killa” from the A World Upside Down Mixxtape!  So consider this fam, will Clay be tearing it up fierce on the tables like only he can…check, will Myzery be bringing his undeniable stage presence and those classic’s you know and love…no doubt, is there any reason good enough to miss this epic union of hatchet homies when they hit up your town…not likely!!!  Hope to see you at the shows.

 

NEW STUDIO HAPPENINGS, A COLLAB WITH A RAP PIONEER, AND A TENTATIVE SPOT ON A HUGE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK…

With all the momentum and fan support Myzery’s been getting this last year, the creative juices have kept your boy steady locked away in the booth just knockin out tracks left and right.  In the last few weeks alone Myz explored his darker side in the surefire track “possessed”, he’s also flipped the script entirely and put his spin on that 80’s pop classic “time after time”…in hip hop form of course, and the complex track called “I am so confused/feat Passion” about being that fucked up homewrecker, when the original friendship was the real prize.  I’ve heard the rough cuts of all three, and as always, his game continues to somehow outdo his former efforts.

Now onto his newest collaboration with a true rap OG.  For those hip hop historians out there, the name Freddie Foxxx should bring a warm smile to your face.  Foxxx is a Long Island native with hip hop roots dating all the way back to his 1989 debut release “Freddie Foxxx is here”, produced entirely by the Legendary Eric B (yes from the Rakim and Eric B. fame).  Foxxx’s contributions to the game have been unrelenting ever since his arrival, especially in the NY scene.  While his talents are often more under the radar these days, lending contributions as a producer for many of the industry’s promising up & comer’s, his ear for talent also serves the game as an eerie sixth sense of sorts.  Recently, and through the NY underground rap syndicate, Foxxx became aware of Myzery buzz and linked up for a collaboration track titled “goin crazy”.  Mixes of the song were recorded in both NY and AZ, and upon completion even included a strong endorsement by Eric B. himself.  Aside from having this ruthless banger recently under his belt, news of the track reached some connected people in the entertainment industry, culminating in some interest to include the song on the upcoming Transformers 3 soundtrack.  As with anything and everything in the music industry though, this high profile endeavor can’t truly be confirmed until basically the album’s release date, because as with all things music related…the tracklisting is always subject to change.  We’ll definitely keep you posted, and as far as the track itself, one way or another it will see the light of day, and when it does you can expect a return of that funky/deep bass hip hop sound from back in the golden era of rap.

 

MYZERY’S GATHERING UPDATE, SET LIST, AND NEW GEAR …

Hot off the heels of the DJ CLAY “scratch beneath the surface”  tour dates, MYZERY is once again honored to perform for the world’s most loyal collection of fans at the 2013 GOTJ.  Of course a lot can happen in a year, so if you’re assuming his set will just be a repeat of what you witnessed last year, well, you might still be psyched!  However, he’s all about moving forward and outdoing himself with each studio or stage effort.  This means that you can expect- new/unreleased tracks to be performed…along with the classic joints like- “meat cleaver, stimulated dome, witching hour, if I ever die, bad influence, Like this, etc”.  Will the highly anticipated “Demon/Angel” album be there?  Not yet fam.  We know it’s been a while in the making, but please know this, we could release it now…but you would miss out on some greatness.  What that means is that MYZERY’s parts are recorded, mixed, and ready for you.  However, he’s got some brilliant friends in wicked places that are still planning on lacing the album with their own brand of sick justice.  Recently Myzery was in Detroit to kickin it with two of his truest homies, The Duke of the Wicked himself- Violent J, and the evilest of Dead- Jumpsteady.  This friendship dates all the way back to before some of you were born, and when the platinum plaques were more like a sci-fi notion.  I’m talking about sega genesis showdowns and freestyle clownin over basement coffee table beats.  Well, during this recent trip to the Murder glove, Myzery was urged not to drop the album until they had the honor of lending their talents.  Is this just some favor or homie obligation?  Fraid not, it’s because Violent J is a true fan of what Myzery’s been doing since he’s resurfaced a few years back.  So yeah, D/A is ready to drop, but it ain’t droppin anywhere until the Don gets his mitts on it.  So, with that bit of news outta the way, let’s talk about what WILL be available at the GOTJ.  Do you remember hearing about the clowns first international tour “The House of Horrors” way back in the day?!?  If you were lucky enough to attend this than you know that the merch sold-out like sex packets, and if you tried to snag one of Myzery’s original “para la isla” shirts, you got the bone if you weren’t in line super early.   Well, we got your back this year, aside from the limited supply of the 2012 Myzery merch line-up, we’ve got brand new Myzery shirts, bandanas, posters, and the remaining supply of Myzery’s entire musical back catalog.  If you’ve ever tried to find copies of Myzery’s post-Psychopathic releases (including the TWIN GATZ stuff), than you know how rare of a find these remaining copies still are.  No worries, we’re bringing all that stuff back.  Also, and due to popular demand, expect to see the re-release of the “Heaven & Hell” mixtape.  This album was originally given away as an online freebie.  The response to the new stuff was overwhelmingly positive and the downloads surpassed all expectations.  Well, we decided to remove all the filler (skits, radio plugs, etc), add some new tracks, and get it pro-pressed for all you collectors out there that prefer a hard copy.

 

MYZERY CAMP’S THOUGHTS ON THE 25 WORST RAPPERS LIST…

So, how fazed is MYZERY’s Camp about his homies being listed in the 25 worst rappers list…not very, given the source.  Seriously, why would a magazine designed to tell people how to dress properly for a dinner party, feel the need to rank rap artists.  I don’t think the two are very synonymous with one another.  To further this argument, just look at the list in itself.  It features rap greats like- Eazy E, a member of one of raps greatest groups ever (NWA) and the founder of the iconic Bone Thugs n Harmony.  What about Too $hort?  Cmon, worst ever, he influenced more west coast rappers than the number of hip hop aficionados that have ever even heard of GQ.  Okay, well maybe waaaay more than that number.  I think it would be very safe to assume that the writers for this “Formal Attire for Dummies” resource have never once heard an ICP album, or anything more than an occasional reference to the infamous “miracles” verse.  Let’s do a quick reality check.  Is their craft even able to be confined within the naive parameters of rap?  An educated look into their product would reveal- very diverse elements of genres, intended sophomoric humor, a generous slathering of macabre, and a conscious revelation of flawed human nature…all which is a far departure from the confines that typecast most rappers and alienate potential fans.  Does their lyricism contain profanity, recreational drugs…and a parental warning?  Profanity- yes, about equal to hit songs like- Nine Inch Nails “I want to F&%$ you like an animal”, The Bloodhound Gang’s “The Bad Touch”, or Akon’s “I wanna F%$# you”.  As for the pot talk, oh it’s in there, ranking at about the midpoint between Bob Marley and Phish.   All of which were critically acclaimed, but maybe that’s because they were actually heard, then enjoyed as a freedom of expression, before being automatically dismissed due to their appearance or stigma of a misunderstood fanbase.  So, can an industry mainstay such as ICP really be the worst ever?  All evidence of success would suggest otherwise.  We’re talking 20 plus years of successfully selling albums.  What other mainstream rap artists (especially groups) can claim that?  I bet you could count them all on two hands maybe…maybe.  Yeah, everybody has favorite artists, but does that loyalty bleed over to the very label that artist is on.  Wait, what?  That doesn’t make any sense at all…but ICP’s fans are just that sure of their product.  Please take this moment to count (this time on one hand I bet) that amount of record label logos you regularly spot proudly displayed on automobiles.  Hard to do right, but ICP’s lil hatchet man is probably the most frequent one you’ve seen (with the Misfits skull probably a distant 2^nd).  Guess what talentless dummies founded that label, designed all merchandising, and developed the concepts for every artist/album on their label…yup those same insane clowns!  Oh yeah, and they also founded, own, and operate the 3^rd largest wrestling promotion in the U.S. which has maintained a revolving roster of superstars like- Mick Foley, Booker-T, Daniel Bryan, DDP, Kevin Nash, Bobby Lashley, Sid Vicious, Scott Hall, Jake the Snake Roberts, etc.  Oops, sorry, that was a departure from my rap argument.  Well, here’s another- How many other platinum rappers have also had the creative ability to write and produce their own cult classic film, selling over a million copies…yup those same clueless wicked clowns.  Okay okay, back to the worst rapper argument.  Wouldn’t such a talentless rap act deter any collaboration opportunities with industry giants?!?  Well, maybe the following household names didn’t get the memo- Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, ODB, Alice Cooper, Kid Rock, Slash (Guns n Roses), Fred Durst, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Ice-T, Steve Jones (The Sex Pistols), Tech N9ne, and Jack White (The White Stripes).  Or maybe it’s just that these musically inclined artists just happened to listen first before judging.  I think that’s the case with rap pioneers like- Chuck D (Public Enemy), ICE-T, and Cypress Hill, who have all praised ICP in interviews or song lyrics.  Somebody better also run and tell mainstay rap powerhouses like E-40 and the Three 6 Mafia about the list, so they can stop repping ICP gear in their videos.  It might be bad for their proven record sales.  So to me, this whole argument seems like less of an argument and more of an example of an unrelated/irrelevant publication scrambling to imagine (not research) a quick list of music that they feel they’d never like to be subjected to, versus an unbiased effort to evaluate talent, based on a set of measurable factors.  If record sales were in any way an indication of musical talent, than this article would suggest that the readers as a whole are incapable of liking anything deemed as worthy musical efforts, because many of those artists listed have been some of the industry’s most successful artists.  It’s too bad that the masses had such foolish musical preferences.   If only we would have had such a great measuring stick of talent, aka a dress clothes magazine, to advise us about what not to spend our money on, before these millions of record sales ever occurred.   It’s funny though, because surely I’d have some buyer’s remorse after reading such a well-researched list…however, still nothing.  I could easily compose a list of 25 movies I’d never like to see (all chick flicks), but if I misleadingly labeled that same list as the 25 worst movies I’ve ever seen…than I’d be full of shit.

1.  Psycho Realm- We go way back with these boys.  Most underrated name on the list of performers this year.
2. ICP- Nobody puts on a stage performance like the wicked clowns!
3. Tech N9ne.  Nuff said.
4. KMK- that feel good music to just vibe out to
5. Mastamind-  Acid rap pioneer always coming strong with it
6. JCW-  All that good oddbrawl shit!
7. Kung Fu Vampire-  Gotta see what all the noise is about.  Hearing good stuff.
8. Lo’s n Lette’s .  Reunions with all the regulars at the merch booth.  Love cutting it up wit all the fam and cracking up to the funny shit yall do.
9. The comedy shows.
10. Running into all my old hatchet homies.
