Last night, it was war. All of the acts performing on the bill were Born For Battle and hungry for what they were bred for: Verbal Onslaughts! On the frontlines, amidst the chaos, dwelled some subnoize misfits on some hip-hop/punk-rock klick shit. Not giving any kind of fucks pushing up their knucks, of course, was D.G.A.F., Chucky Chuck, Gillies, Big Hoss, and Saint Dog. Followed closely and intently by Humboldt’s heroes, Potluck. Then to swoop through and finish the crowd off with a swift lyrical chop was warzone vets. Subnoize Souljahs, Dirtball and Big B.

After the opening bands that seem to infest Peabody’s like a roaches in a crack den came what the crowd and myself had patiently waited for: SuburbanNoize Records. Originally before embarking on the road there were four performing groups, yet from what I heard around the club the fourth act, Fear Nuttin’ Band, hopped off the tour the night before. This made no difference to me, because I honestly never heard of ’em so I couldn’t be bummed about something I don’t know about.

All four member of DGAF were in the house last night blasting their sounds making the crowd move. Getting the crowd amped/pumped for what was later to come the quartet, accompanied by a live DJ: DJ Circa, played more than half of their debut album ‘DGAF’. Fast paced, heart pumping, full throttle type tracks proves that this group really is “Go hard or Go home” because all night, when not onstage, they were in the crowd getting loud, drunk, and even high I think, ducking security with the rest of the fans. The only thing that I didn’t like was the turnout on the crowd’s part. I’ve seen Peabodys packed to brim stuffed full of people, but last night it seemed like we were missing hundreds of people.

Shortly after DGAF split the skulls and rocked the walls hailed Humboldt’s finest and highest, Potluck, came out to lace the night with the stony vibes. All the groups talk about smoking and whatnot, but the only other group on Subnoize who raps about it more than these two would be the Kottonmouth Kings. That aside, Potluck spit some tracks off of ‘Harvest Time’, ‘Straight Outta Humboldt’, and (the yet to be released) ‘Pipe Dreams’. What was tight about them spitting from their newest project was the information they dropped before they did the track. ‘Pipe Dreams’ comes out on August 12 or 15, I forget but definitely one of those two days. Also the people featured on the album are a few to be reckoned with: Kaliko, Garth Vader, Twiztid, and the Dank Alumni come together for a new track as well. The only part I didn’t like about this set was when it ended; to me these two always rock the stage hard as fuck like a cinderblock dropped on a sleeping person’s head.

Since there were only three acts to fill the bill the Souljahs took it upon themselves to do what they do best, spit a longer set. First was the Raptillion, the mushroom tea-sipping madman, Dirtball. He was there for obvious reasons but one that seemed to be more prevalent over the others was his promotion for the recently dropped ‘Crook County’. His hype worked, because he sold out of the supply he had to sell at that venue. Once the riddling of verbal bullets was done the D.Ball took a moment to reload his mouth to empty another clip and gave Big B his turn. B brought the love of LV into Cleveland kicking tracks from ‘Random Stuff’, ‘More to Hate’, ‘White Trash Renegade’, and ‘High Class White Trash’. Speaking on the subjects of fucking the haters and doing your own shit came the Dirtball once again to form the Subnoize Souljahs. They dropped tracks from the debut album ‘Subnoize Souljash’ as well as ‘Dropping Bombs’. These two kept it as hype as it had been if not more. It seemed the crowd was there to seem them mostly, probably because they were the headliners.

What I did love mostly about last night was how each of the acts reassured those who did make it for the show that no matter what whether it be 2 or 2,000 people we were catching the same performance. That, to me, shows that the artist wants their fan to have that much fun at their concerts even if the numbers aren’t that high. I think that a smaller crowd like that gives the groups a better chance at connecting with their fan base in that town. I suggest that you go see this show if it is still making its way to your town, if you don’t think you should then don’t and spend you money on something whack or retarded.
