So…are you wondering why the hell somebody from a Juggalo website would even be considered as a guest at the Los Angeles, CA convention for BackYard Wrestling? Well, to tell you the truth, I was too at first. A few weeks ago, Eidos Interactive‘s product manager, Kevin Gill, contacted me about throwing a plug up about the BackYard Wrestling Site. I checked it out, and though ICP was not mentioned on there at all, I put it up for the sheer reason that there had been a video game mentioned by Violent J in one of his past Weekly Freekly’s at InsaneClownPosse.com. So, just days later, Kevin emails me again and asks me to keep February 13th open in my schedule. So to make a long story short, and get to the good stuff, I was invited to go to a Convention on the Backyard Wrestling Game in Los Angeles as a guest of Eidos! Though he knew that guests would consist primarily of Gaming magazine journalists, and gaming site webmasters, he wanted FaYgoLuVeRs.net there to represent the Juggalo community! Needless to say, I was absolutely shocked about it…but let’s get on to the trip details!

I arrived in Los Angeles at around 11:30 in the AM on Thursday, February 13th. I didn’t know where we were going…but the first thing I saw walking out of the terminal was a Black Lincoln Continental stretch limo. I was sportin’ a Psychopathic Records jersey, and a lady named Michelle asked me if I was Scottie…I said yes, and she said to get in. So yeah…my scrubby juggalo ass was picked up by a limo at the LA Airport, along with some of the webmasters from GamingHorizon.comGaming-Age.comGamespot.com, and more that I can’t remember at the moment!

We took about a 25 minute drive into Santa Monica, CA where this convention was located. Now when i was given the itinerary for the trip, i figured we would go to some office building, play the game, and just tell what we thought of it. That wasn’t the case at all. We pulled into the driveway of a Mansion in Santa Monica! When we walked in, there were 6 or 7 TV’s set up with XBox’s and PS2’s

Before we actually got to play though, we went downstairs into the “Viewing room” of the mansion, and watched a 30 minute presentation on the video game! Before starting, they showed us the “Homies” video which is featured on the Best of Backyard Wrestling: Volume 5! Bloody wrestlers beat the hell out of each other to the tune of the southern Rock stylings of the Insane Clown Posse. What could be better? Then came the video game presentation. Let me tell you something Juggalos….this game’s graphics are absolutely amazing! Just from watching it, the detail that was put into each of the characters’ physical attributes is phenomenal!

Many details were discussed while Kevin and the head designer of the game were showing us the features. We only saw the Mansion level, and only a few characters were available to choose from, including Mad Man PondoViolent JShaggy 2 Dope,SabuM Dogg, and Josh Prohibition. There are Definitely more speculated to be in the game though! Who? Well I’m talkin about the Rude BoyTom Dub, and possibly even another Painted up duo from Psychopathic Records? That doesn’t tell you shit! But there are more surprises planned to keep you hyped! Video of this demo will be available here soon!

After the presentation, we all headed back upstairs to the PS2’s and XBox (yes, there was only 1). And with that said, we got our gamin’ on! I got to play it with several different people there. A few reporters tried to interview me while i was playin, but I don’t think I made for a good interview, considering I was too intrigued in the game and wanted them to get that big fuckin mic out of my face! Anyway, let me just tell you something…even though the version we played was only about 50% completed (give or take a few), the gameplay was outstanding! The whole environment it was set in was interactive! If you want to climb a poll and jump off of a jacuzzi, then it’s possible; grab a tikki torch and burn your opponent with it? Definitely!; try and get past with the butler who is guarding the entrance to the house and get knocked the fuck out? You guessed it, it’s there! The whole setting is so incredibly detailed! I mean haven’t you seen the screen shots?

Also, something I liked about the game is that the controls are VERY easy to learn and remember. If you want to climb on top of something, just move towards it. Pick something up? Push the “Triangle” button. Want to Punch/Throw/Swing an item? Just hit the “Square” button. Seriously, the controls are very simple, but even with that said, the game is no cakewalk. A lot of strategy is involved. You can either knock your opponent out, or pin them. The more high-risk maneuvers and weapons you use, the quicker your victim’s energy bar vanquishes!

Character actions during gameplay are highly detailed and realistic as well. Kevin states it very clearly in an interview that we will have posted soon, but for now, I can tell you that when you hit your opponent, he will react as if he had just been hit. If you jump off of a high-rise and miss your target, your character’s body will flop on the ground and actually bounce! This isn’t your daddy’s 4 bit Atari wrestling game here Juggalos…this is a very high tech, extremely thought-out process that definitely pays off. I’m tellin you something right now. I’m NOT a “gamer”. My schedule on the daily just doesn’t allow it. But I will defintely get my hands on a copy of this game when it’s released in late Summer!

NOTE: For those of you who were only interested in reading my review of the game, and nothing else, then i’m done…close the window, and thank you for reading! For the rest of you ninjas, I’ve got a whole lot of story left, including some dope pics! So stick around!

While waiting my next turn to play, I caught a glimpse of the Rude Boy through the glass doors that go out to the backyard. He was steady chillin’, sippin’ on a Heineken. Before we knew it though, all of the media, including me, was instructed to go to the backyard. I went back and took a look around. This backyard was HUGE, and already had a Wrestling Ring set up in it. The Scenery was absolutely incredible though…check it:

You can’t get much better than that Juggalos….oh wait, yes you can! This is a little peek of some of the first things I saw when i strolled out to the backyard:

Wow, that is one nice piece of…anyways!, I took in the scenery, took some pics, and grabbed a bite to eat while we were there. Then there were some promo photo shoots goin down with some of the Backyard BabesMighty Mike from the Backyard Wrestling video series, and the Madd Horn Dog from the same series.

You’ll be seeing a lot more of those guys when we get the videos posted…that MHD is one loud-mouthed, shit-talkin ninja. I mean of course it’s all an act…but he was saying some pretty left-field shit! For instance, this was yelled at the top of his lungs:

“I.C.P. Stands for Insane Cock Factory”

Yes…left field….perfect description for that guy! lol. Anyway, the press then wanted to get some pictures of the game’s developers, along with the wrestlers who were there (including Rudy and Pondo) and the Backyard Babes! Here’s the photos I got for those:

While all of this was going down, I was following some of the Huge television show crews around, like Access Hollywood, and filming while they interviewed J and Shaggy! I’ll post that as well…there’s a whole lot more flavor coming about this convention in the form of movies! So stay tuned! I’m not done here yet though…so keep on reading!

After some more filming and picture-snapping, I headed back to the patio to grab a Coke. Kevin had told me that Anybody Killa was chillin on the patio, but i hadn’t seen him earlier. Well…it was because it was ABK minus the makeup! His hair was all tucked up under an ABK baseball hat, and was just hard to recognize at first glance! I introduced myself, and got to chatting with him. Let me tell you Juggalos something, if you ever get a chance to chill 1 on 1 with ABK, take the opportunity, because he’s really cool to talk to. Very down-to-earth, like the rest of the Psychopathic Records crew…and didn’t give me just “yes” “No” answers. He didn’t reveal much to me, but he DID tell me that the“Wizard of the Hood” would most likely be droppin’ at the Gathering of the Juggalos 2003!!! So my next question was, of course, “Do you have any idea where the Gathering will be this year?” He gave me just a smidget of insight….but no concrete details because there were still so many details to work out that nothing is even close to being set in stone. Soon after that, I walked by Rude Boy and re-introduced myself (since we had met before).

He was really busy getting psyched up and prepared for his Hardcore match againstMadMan Pondo, but I did manage to get 1 question off…the location of the Gathering! Did he budge? Not an inch. lol.

Then I talked to PsychoPatrick for a while. He had just come back from the bus, so his eyes were a little glazed over…if you catch my drift. But anyway, he had mentioned that somebody from FaYgoLuVeRs.net had tried to listen to “Wizard of the Hood” not too long before the convention in Portland, OR. (IVK…just so you know). The reason that IVK was denied the chance wasn’t because they didn’t believe that he was a webmaster, or anything like that. It was simply because the Oregon show was so close to after J posted the Weekly Freekly, that Patrick hadn’t even had a chance to read it yet. So he had no idea what was goin’ down. Then we started talking about how out-of-place we both felt. I mean here are these high-brow reporters from mult-million dollar organizations here to get a “news scoop”, while him and I were all scrubbed out with jersies and jeans on! That’s all good though…this was no dress code event…and the best part was yet to come!

After Shaggy came up to Patrick and started talking to him about what piece of ass they’d like to hit, I went to ringside where the first match was about to start. The match was M Dogg vs. Josh Prohibition. I can’t say enough about these 2 guys…they connected with some devestating maneuvers! I got this whole match recorded as well….so to save space, i’ll just wait and let you watch it for yourselves! Just so you know though, it ends up that both Josh and M Dogg were invited to take part in theJCW! For how long…I don’t know. But I still thought it was dope!

Keep in mind that nobody had any idea whatsoever that this event would include actual wrestling matches! So it surprised me even more to see the Rude Boy and Mad Man Pondo get into the ring to square off! I kid you not Juggalos…this match was so brutal and hardcore! I can’t even describe it! Both of them stuck their necks out for the pure enjoyment of the audience!

I really wish i could tell you some of the tactics that were pulled during this matchup…but i’d really much rather wait until you can see the video behind it! OK OK…i’ll let one slide. Pondo filled up a metal trash can with light bulbs. Rudy switched the momentum of the match, propped him onto the top ropes, and threw him, HEAD FIRST, into the trashcan full of lightbulbs! It was absolutely Insane! But you have to see it to gain full respect for it! After the match, several photos were taken with Tyleen(sp?), Rudy, and Pondo. Check ’em:

From that point on, the Psychopathic records crew left to get ready for their show the next day, and I helped pick up around the house. All in all, this is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had! I have to give PHAT fuckin props to KEVIN GILL for making both this game: BackYard Wrestling: Don’t Try This At Home, and this trip happen for me, so I could come back to you ninjas and fill you in on the details! I hope that this report has been both enlightening, and somewhat entertaining to read. If not, then take it for what it was originally set to be….a video game review. lol. Anyway, thanks to all of you who checked it out! And one more thing, Fuck WALGREENS for ruining the originals to my 2nd set of film! Don’t worry though, i’ll just retake them next time I have this once in a life time opportunity. (can you tell I’m a little bitter? lol) Anyway, thanks again Juggalos, and I’m out!
