PREMIERE: SLAINE “SLAINE IS DEAD” EP

BRING OUT THE CASKET CUZ SLAINE IS DEAD!

Slaine is back… but he’s also dead on arrival. A founding member of La Coka Nostra, the Boston emcee has laid the old Slaine to rest and the new Slaine has risen from the ashes. While the success of LCN, a string of acclaimed solo releases, and a notable acting career had him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ben Affleck, and The Rock, drugs and alcohol had the passionate lyricist on a downward spiral. But when he hit rock bottom, it was time to fight his way back.

If you’ve been wondering where Slaine has been, don’t worry. So has he. As he tells us:

“Music was just too closely tied to drugs and alcohol and since those were the very things that were killing me, I had to be willing to give it all up. It was a sacrifice I could make knowing it was to be a good father to my son. I could live with that.”

So, while he had to find a whole new creative process, he also rediscovered a love for hip hop that shines through on this new EP. The 8-track project has a solid thump that recalls classic East Coast acts like Gangstarr and fellow native Bostonian, Edo G. On cuts like “Slaine Is Dead” and “Nobody Prays For Me” the raptor laments about his battles with addiction, while on “Knocked Down” and “Legendary” he lets you know he’s back in fighting shape. And on the lead single “Pusher” he vividly details the daily when you living that life. Termanology, Rite Hook, Slaine’s LCN brother Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, and crooner Jared Evan all drop verses that add, rather than distract from the overall message and feel. Slaine might be off the yay, but he’s still got that fix for you hip hop junkies.
