ICP free benefit concert at Masonic Temple; Violent J discusses Juggalo Day and The Missing Link

Fox2 out of Detroit recently published an article and interviewed ICP about their upcoming free concert on February 21st for Juggalo Day. Nothing really news worthy was said, but it was a rare positive story about ICP.

The Macomb Daily also published an article that featured Violent J discussing Juggalo Day and The Missing Link. This article states that ICP plan on announcing tour plans during this weekends events. We do not know if this is true or not, but we will let you know if we hear anything else.

You can check out the two article below. To watch the video interview from Fox2 CLICK HERE.

From Fox2:

(WJBK) – They have been called crazy, have been accused of being bad role models and have faced multiple lawsuits — but that isn’t stopping the Insane Clown Posse from finding and keeping success in the music business.

Now, they want to give back to the city that accepted their brand of clowning around.

Since their first album ‘Carnival of Carnage’ came out in 1992, this group that began in Oak Park, Mich. has done rap on its own terms and reportedly sold over 6.5 million records.

They own their own building with a studio, along with their own label Psycopathic Records. They produced other artists and movies, and even started a wrestling league.

And for 15 years they have been hosting fans at an summer music fest called Gathering of the Jugalos (which is what they call their loyal fans).

And now, they have another gift – a free concert.

“We wanted to say thank you to Detroit. This industry in the Motor City gave us life,” says Violent J.

The benefit concert is at the Masonic Temple on February 21. The concert is sold out, but those who have tickets are asked to bring a canned good to get in. The canned goods will go to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

From Macombdaily.com:

Insane Clown Posse started Juggalo Day as a thank-you and a celebration of and for its fans a few years back. But this year it seems even more important than before.

After a year spent battling the FBI over the criminal gang classification of its Juggalo fan base — the case is on appeal after the U.S. District course dismissed the initial complaint — the Farmington Hills-headquartered rap duo’s Violent J says those Juggalos deserve something “bigger and better,” which is why this year’s Juggalo Day has expanded to two days at Detroit’s Masonic Temple complex. The festivities including Friday’s showing of the group’s two films, “Big Money Hustla$” and “Big Money Rustla$,” while Saturday’s sold-out free concert (nonperishable foods collected for tickets will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank) will also include a bit of JCW wrestling exhibition.

“Juggalos like to get together and be together. That’s what we’re all about,” says Violent J (real name Joe Bruce), who co-founded the group with partner Shaggy 2 Dope (Joe Utsler) during 1989 in Oak Park. “It’s important to let everybody know that business continues, that no matter what happens, what we go through or what happens to us, nobody’s gonna be able to stop us from doing what we do.“We’re always going to be here to provide an outlet of some fun for people’s lives, man. Juggalos that enjoy being a Juggalo, we’re gonna be able to grow old together. We don’t do this and not enjoy it, y’know? We do this ’cause we love it, and we’ll let everybody know that.”

ICP business will go on in a big way this year. The duo is reactivating its Internet radio station (Psychopathic Radio), but even more importantly, has not one but two albums on the way — “Lost,” which hits on April 28, Violent J’s 43rd birthday, and “Found,” which ICP plans to release during the summer. As the titles indicate, the two are companion pieces, with “Lost” much is “super serious,” much more so than its predecessors.

“There’s no comedy on it, and ICP is known for comedy,” Violent J says. “It’s about life without hope or without faith, and it’s just fast and pulse-pounding beats and dark. For me it’s about not having God in your life and being lost and worrying about death, worrying about everything, like you’re missing a link. It’s looking at the world through negative lenses.”

However, he promises, “Found” will live up to its more optimistic title.

“It’s like you find your missing link, you have faith, you see everything positively. We had a much better time in the studio with that one; we bring back the comedy aspect of it and songs about good times and the funny songs and the upbeat songs. So we get lost and we get found; it’s the complete picture.”

ICP will announce tour plans during the Juggalo Day weekend, while details this year’s Gathering of the Juggalos will be announced later.

Juggalos and juggalettes are going to be inducted into the illuminati, sign away their soul and reserve their seat in Hell’s Pit.

In this day and age, giving back to the less fortunate and donating to the children, what more do we need out of role models? Most of the time I don’t want to cuss in public, I treat all with respect.. I believe in god..
Thanks ICP for steering us in the right direction.. I hope tonight’s show is one of the best!!
