So here’s some pretty exciting news! Unexpectedly, every one of Psychopathic Records‘ social media sites posted a new flyer (seen to your right) touting a “new entity” on the label. They said it’s been in the making for TWO YEARS. Then, they put up some sort of voodoo symbol on the flyer. I had no idea what that symbol was, but some super ninja sleuthing Juggalos immediately hit us up when they found the exact symbol on some websites about voodoo markings. Here’s one that was found:
Exactly the same thing, right? That is a symbol for a voodoo spirit named Baron Samedi. There’s a TON of info on that name. First off, it says that Baron Samedi is a voodoo Loa of Death, Sex, and Saturday Night. In French, the word Samedi means Saturday. According to an article on Yahoo!, this is what the Baron looks like:
The Baron has some very particular looks when he’s represented. Most times he’s shown as a tall, handsome black man decked out in a tuxedo and top hat that will be either black or white. Sometimes he has a cadaverous, skull like face with plugs up his nose in the tradition of Haitian burial. Other times he will be shown as a skeleton dressed in the same way. The Baron is fond of cigars and cigarettes (he doesn’t care which is healthier), strong alcohol (particularly rum), and debauchery while still keeping a soft spot in his heart for children. He is sometimes referred to as Baron Saturday, or the Baron of Saturday Night because Samedi is the French word for Saturday, though the names of the days of the week technically come from an older list of gods.
Here are a few of the Google images that came up for the name Baron Samedi:
Now this all might not amount to shit. They could have a whole other idea and just found that symbol to use because they thought it looked fresh. Either way, those are our findings! Let us know what you think!
