Okay, so, I just gotta say some shit about this.

I'm sure you've at least heard of TicTok, it's one of if not the most used apps at the moment.

I initially completely ignored it, I saw that it was basically just Musical.ly part 2, and I couldn't care less.

If you don't already know, on TicTok, you mime along to audio clips (usually music), taking only the audio as you add your own visual, you can collaborate with other people, you can blah blah blah, I don't care.

It's fucking stupid, basically, it takes advantage of people having no attention span, 99% of them are not funny in the least, and even the one or two good visuals that are done, are immediately followed up with 100000 copycats.

It's fucking cringe inducing.

I ignored it for a while, until I actually heard that Hocus Pocus was being used a whole lot. Specifically the intro.

With people wearing clown make up and playing 15 seconds of the song, and pretending that somehow equals entertainment.

It was fine, if anything, it's cool to know what the newest generation in mass heard some ICP

Then after that they started using To Catch a Predator, now I want you to think about that for 20 seconds, what do you think the joke is? If you remember the song, the first stupid idea that pops in your heard is EXACTLY what every single one of them did.

If you guessed that they play this line:

"Hi! Come on in! I'm putting on my bikini! And when the door shuts, that's when I let them see me"

And then show their face in the video being "funny" you'd be right.

Every single one who used this song is the EXACT SAME JOKE, just with the face switched out.

The joke was never funny to begin with and they just keep making it over and over again.

But the day I started hating TicTok was yesterday.

I heard a while ago they were using Aishite Aishite Aishite (Love me, Love me, Love me) by Kikuo.

The song is in Japanese, so of course, none of them are using it for the lyrics, just the sound, Kikuo's music is known for having a happy or at least upbeat tone with really fucked up lyrics.

That song specifically is about borderline personality disorder, so using it for your pathetic attempts at humor is pretty insulting.

They literally just pretend the lyrics don't exist.

I already knew about that

But yesterday, I found out they started using another song by Kikuo.

Gomenne Gomenne (I'm sorry I'm sorry)

A song about a little girl whose father and other people in her life cannibalize her, which is an obvious allegory for child rape.

One of the biggest themes of the lyrics being the fact that she blames herself for everything and is constantly apologizing for being "a useless kid" (hence the title), it gets brutally real, and is song directly from the girl's prospective using an automated voice that's made to sound like an actual child.

It's probably the darkest song to ever be made.

And these fucking people, are using this goddamn song to make their shitty unfunny jokes.

I'm not saying they're terrible people for not knowing the lyrics to a song in Japanese.

I'm saying Tic Tok is absolute cancer.

It's a place where they fucking ruin incredible songs to make the lowest form of entertainment possible.

A place where the people who use it care so little about what they're doing that they don't even know the lyrics they are pretending to fucking sing.

The idea that that fucking song is being associated with teenage girls pretending to stub their toe or some shit makes me more angry than I can put into words.

These songs have been fucking tainted by these goddamn people. It's an insult to music.

Fuck TicTok.

I see no difference between a corpse and a sex toy

I can't speak on the Japanese songs since I don't know anything about them but as for the icp songs, I like it.

I don't follow the memes and don't have tiktok (though I did download it for like an hour). The lip syncing is always very bad. The kids usually look like little emo dweebs. But I get it. They found something odd and are flipping it inside out, trying to figure out the humor of it.

I can't speak for anybody else but my friends and I certainly did the same thing. We just didn't have phones. We often quoted the same lyrics over and over in different contexts.

It is what it is.

I don't care enough about dumb teens doing dumb teenage things for fun to claim it's a cancer. 1st world problems. More like an outlet to release hate on.

The worst plague on music is actual the commercialization of it.

music, especially hip hops' worst plague is the fact that they purposefully push acts who are dumbed down & amateurish 'cause they dont want to wisen-up the masses & want to kill the drive of actual artist.. The industry is a cancer.. music has been commercialized since the 80's, at the least.. tictok is just an outlet for the average dumb person to do their dumb things..

The industry isn't a collective conglomerate bent on some insidious plan to dumb down the masses. The different corporations in the industry only care about making money and that's it. They don't have any agenda other than making money. What makes the most money is dumb fun music because people love to party to it. Most conscious hip hop doesn't focus on being catchy or melodic so it does terrible in the club. Otherwise artists like Kendrick would never have gotten radio play. They go where the money is at and if being conscious was where the money is you bet they'd exploit that as much as possible.

Proof is the fact that they played New Slaves which 1) wasn't intended for radio play and wasn't even sent in to any stations, they actually censored it themselves 2) musically the song was nothing like the pop standard of the time and sounded more like underground experimental giants like Death Grips 3) didn't follow the normal song structure of a pop rap song and didn't even have a catchy hook (or a hook at all) and 4) the content was fairly conscious. A bit scrambled with no clear direction in what the message was supposed to be, but he clearly said things about artists being slaves to labels, people being slaves to materialism, people being slaves to propaganda/public perception and how privatized prisons create literal slaves.

It's proof they don't just push dumbed down music they try to push what they think is going to make them the most money.

eh.. kanye is a huge name.. im sure he has some leverage on whether or not radio plays his stuff.. he bitched enough about the fashion stuff, im sure he would bitch about his new stuff not getting played, if that were the case.. radio & labels arent one in the same, regardless..

No, he intentionally went out of his way not to make Yeezus radio friendly because he was 'protesting the industry' or some shit. He was surprised that they picked it up. His first few albums that blew him up were fairly conscious as well. He said it was a battle to get them to play stuff like Jesus Walks or All Falls Down because the tried and true mold that was working at the time was either gangster rap or club rap. Both became hits though.

The labels work congruently with radio stations because they both have the same end goal. Labels are much more ruthless with it because they push who they think will blow up. When you get a tried and true formula they exploit it as much as possible with no care if the lyrics are smart or dumb.  Typically simpler lyrics do better though because of course they do in a field where being catchy is the #1 aspect. Ultimately it doesn't matter. As Tic Tok has proven to us the average consumer isn't even paying attention to the lyrics anyways. So we still get smarter artists pushing a message like Kendrick and Kanye because they still make fun catchy pop songs. However, it's much much easier to write dumb lyrics. So which is the industry going to aim for when pushing a tried and true formula where lyrics don't really matter? The artist that can shove dumb fun pop songs out when ever they can rather than the more intelligent poppy rappers that take more time write music. A lot of times they don't even invest in their longevity the same way they do with artists with lyrics that resonate because they know they can't milk a Lil Yachty for ever.

I ain't said it was the worst plague of music, just that it was one, and also I was playing it up if it wasn't obvious.

Lucem would be right, selling out and being forced to dumb it down is the biggest plague of music.

I joke that TicTok ruins songs, but that LITERALLY ruins artists.

I've been having gray hair since I was 19 working at Toys R Us and now I'm 35. Just genetics.

And "Return to Oz" is insane. I recall it being one of the more intense movies of my youth.

Return to Oz was my shit back in the day. None of my friends ever believed me that it was terrifying until I made them watch it.
