If you’re looking for a gritty, gangsta, hyphy type sound look no further than the king of the bay area himself, Yukmouth! Yukmouth has worked with many legends in the music industry from the Godfather of Hyphy movement, and close friend, Mac Dre, to the LEGENDARY Quincy Jones!
The things this man has accomplished within the years he’s been in the game are incredible! Such as, being nominated for a Grammy award for his work on Quincy Jones’ The Jook Joint, and then shortly after performing the very same nominated song on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
When Yukmouth was a member of “Luniz” their debut album went platinum with the marijuana anthem entitled “I got 5 on it”. When he started his own label, named Smoke A lot Records, he dropped an album that went Gold, entitled Thugged Out: The Albulation. He has made NUMEROUS DVDs and albums and has survived more beef than a burger house, whereas most artists’ careers don’t survive the first beef!
He started at a young age and has been in multiple groups, he is still a current member and the founder of the artist alliance known as “The Regime”.
Yukmouth currently has 2 albums ready to release within the year, a collaborative album entitled “Half Baked”, as well as a solo album entitled “Dragon Gang.”
Yukmouth as well has a tour coming up that will take him international once again, bringing him to yet another milestone in his already legendary career.
[Quote]Q: How did you come across the name Yukmouth? A: During the 70’s there was a children’s commercial with a character by the name Yukmouth that had nasty teeth. At that time everyone perceived yukmouth as referring to someone with bad oral hygiene. Furthermore, the name became easily remembered by others, which I decided to reference as someone with a nasty flow. Q: How did you get started in music? Q: What was it like working with the late Mac Dre? Q: What can you tell us about The Regime and who is all apart of it? Q: Will you tell us about your Grammy nomination?
