What’s the music scene like in your city? Non-existent? Awesome? I’m interested in this because I’ve been documenting my local scene for over three years now. Often there are many similarities & differences between them, and I’m curious to hear what you’ve got going on in your city.
For example: nearby Asheville, NC is known for its arts community and has a thriving music scene in spite of being a small mountain town. Charlotte, NC has a booming hip-hop scene, and my city is on the rise as well. There’s actually a doom metal show at a local record store today at noon. Hopefully I don’t sleep through it. I mean, fuckin noon on a Saturday, are you kidding me? But I digress…

Typicsl of modern america. Just a bunch of gay ass pop shit, generic rappers, shitty country music fans, and alternative rock. Not much to go as far as individuality or uniqueness goes, at least nothing significant enough for me to have heard of.

There’s a metal band from your city called “Nuclear Hellfrost” that recently got a bunch of flack for disrespecting Dimebag Darrell’s grave (The guy from Pantera that got killed onstage, for those unaware) & posting it on tumblr. As far as I can tell, Bloomington has a fledgling DIY punk scene. The most notable of those bands being Rat Storm. That’s pretty much all I know about Indiana’s music scene.

I tried to get everyone who “raps” around here to get on a mixtape, that mixtape was never put together yet as no one submitted ANYTHING.
This is prolly the “best” guy around here. Which might not be the best, but he’s actually on beat and better than most around here. And it’s better than his freestyle shit.
But someone gotta tell him there’s already a rapper named Skitzo.
Edit: I think he got a little better since that video, he shown me some of his newer wrote down shit.

That’s frustrating, I’ve had a couple failed comp attempts myself. Too many people that make music (to me “musician” implies professionalism) refuse to work with others, then wonder why they get nowhere.

I don’t get that, I would love to work with as many people as possible, because then it’s more likely that people actually HEAR your music.

It used to suck here, but it’s getting a lot better. Basically, a small group of punk musicians started doing DIY shows & it spread from there once more people heard about it. It’s still a struggle for rappers because of racism tho. Often, you hear “we don’t want that type of crowd”, it’s ridiculous. Instead of trying to make some money, lots of bars would rather keep their 6 regulars happy. Many are saying fuck it & renting buildings for shows or just playing houses. Kinda exciting time for us, I think. Like with any scene there’s bands who are lazy, and shady promoters, but it’s getting better because so many people are sick of this area only being known for Edwin McCain & Hootie and the Blowfish.

My city itself is into metal and rap. But we see ourselves as part of the bay period but sliced up in north south east and west each haveing different specialties. The eastbay where im from is famous for its punk and hip hop. The bay in general is a culture hub ive been very lucky to be exposed to it

Montreal is a metal city I would say huge metal festivals and a huge band every few days always plays here.next would be EDM, dance, electro, techno, dubstep or whatever you call that music all sounds the same to me
rap and hip hop comes near the bottom unless its Kanye West or a huge name like his rappers do not get much love here.
also local bands like arcade fire and chromeo are huge here mainly because they come from here.
Chromeo is the shit.

Cool, east bay hardcore is a major influence on several of the punk bands around here actually.
