Now that is surprising. This album is likely the most visible release of the underground this year. I deliberated on purchasing it for about a week- I see these guys everywhere, and they’re being shilled heavily by people from around my way…but a feature on Lo Key’s recent free ep notwithstanding, I know very little about this group. So I rolled the dice and purchased it today.

I was more than satisfied, I was impressed. Not the most lyrical group, but no slouches either, A.X.E. wears their influences pretty heavily on their sleeve without taking themselves too seriously. Their rapping is well balanced by solid production and lucid, hard hitting beats that seem like a natural evolution of Green Book era Twiztid. The blend of classic horror storytelling and humor brings to mind vintage Psychopathic, which I love, and is good old Juggalo Shit. Evil Dead and to a lesser extent Lovecraft in general drip wickedly into the pervading theme of possessed pot that carries this album- it plays like a journal belonging to some stoner dropouts from Miskatonic University. The cohesiveness of the album elevates it above standard horrorcore fare, and I hope that these guys continue doing concept albums because, in my eyes, they have a genuine talent for it. This is just ky opinion. What do you guys think?

I think it is a blatant rip-off of From Wisdom to Baked.

Yea, it’s a solid project.  I think part of what makes them seem so similar to ICP is that Billy Obey’s voice REALLY sounds like J’s voice from the Hells Pit era.  And their lyrics are goofy.

But yea, if you liked this one, I would highly recommend getting Head of Horns and Sci Co.  Head of Horns is the better overall album, but my 3 favorite songs by them are on Sci Co.
