Being a Juggalo was cool in the mid to late nineties. In the Aughts, after mainstream labels we’re able to “emulate” what was cool about ICP and make even more money off of it (Eminem) is when everyone started hating Juggalos. Of course this is all spexulatios on my part as I didn’t even KNOW about ICP until like 2003.
There’s a section on ICP in this documentary though.

Are Juggalos apart of pop culture? Absolutely. Insane Clown Posse are figures of pop culture, and have been for as long as they’ve been nationally known. J has even described the Insane Clown sound as ‘Death Pop’, the double meaning behind the MDP album and something at odds with the apparent Juggalo ethos of keeping it ‘wicked’ and ‘underground’.
This does not surprise me, coming from a man who cites Prince and Michael Jackson as his biggest influences. When I think of the underground, I usually mean it in terms of the scene as it exists as a whole. We have our own lingo, our own artists, our own movies. The culture-within-the-culture, not specifically the nationally recognized brands of Psychopathic Records or Majik Ninja Entertainment. Steve Miller’s book makes a great case for corporate America’s failure to properly seize a hold of monetizing the culture because as it stands, all of our needs are already met by our own and our specific preference for things outside of the mainstream. You’ll see that changing with Majik Ninja Entertainment’s way of conducting business. They’ve bridged the gap between the two pretty effectively, and it’s now industrialized to a point of no return. This is still the natural course of things.
Are Juggalos apart of the mainstream popular consciousness? Absolutely. Is participation in the Juggalo culture mainstream? Not hardly, but it does experience cycles of trendiness. I’ve met too many tourists and curious orbiters to say otherwise.

Disagree wholly, juggalos a part of pop(ular) culture is ridiculous. Counter culture on the other hand makes more sense. But it’s silly shit.
Counter culture is a part of pop culture when it’s popular enough. I just think juggalos have too much of a superficial and often times ridiculous fetish for being underground or not mainstream to accept that they are a part of pop culture and as far as horrorcore goes, juggalo music is very very poppy.
Or maybe if you want to get down to it, I think juggalos are more of a wannabe counter culture at this point, do to that fetish. Think about it. You guys are the only ones that would get upset about being told you are pop culture. It’s all just an aesthetic you try to wear like a badge of honor. Ironic since you guys claim to just be yourselves and not care what others think. I think this proves you do. You want to be known as anti-pop.

9 times out of 10 I think you guys actually believe I’m just being a troll or trying to be controversial or something when I say stuff like this, but I assure you it’s an honest critique.
Generally speaking, having 7 butts attached to any and every statement you make tends to suggest some level of not being completely serious. JS
