I’ve been pretty dissatisfied with the current rock scene in general, since mainstream rock is pretty dead right now, to which people say “You just have to find the underground rock music; it’s really great!”

But where do I find this “underground scene” to begin with? (By the way, I’m really into prog rock and Britpop, so I’m looking for ways to find music with that sort of sound)

The best way to find new music, imo, is going to shows. People tend to skip openers and they are missing out. Sometimes they suck. Sometimes they don’t. Either way it’s a band you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

I went to see cherry glazerr on a whim and discovered vagabon who was from new York, and shannon lay who is from here in LA. I liked both more than the main act.

Take chances. Hit up different sized venues.

Don’t look for a specific sound, just try to find something that has potential to lead you into more your zone. Death metal and britpop probably don’t mix too often but if you can find a good shoegaze band, you might hit some of their shows and find something you really like.

The other options are bandcamp, spotify, and YouTube. Just spend some time going down the rabbit hole. Make playlists of what is interesting, and listen to those a lot. It’ll start recommending things based on those listens.

If you really believed that all lives matter we wouldn't need to say black lives matter

Method 1: go to local shows and find cool people near you, then buy their shit, supporting the small guy is always good

Method 2: find an obscure subgenre you enjoy and find random artists that fit it (this only really works for metal, though it might work for rock as well)

Method 3: go to google play music, pandora, spotify, or a smiliar site, choose a moderatly obscure band you enjoy, click play, wait till you find things you haven’t heard.

Method 4: this http://www.undergroundmusic.fm/trending its pretty nice actually, heard some good shit

Method 5: find friends that are already in the underground scene and look for reccomendations

thats what I do.

I see no difference between a corpse and a sex toy

I recommend checking out college radio station online streams in the genres you like. Also, chatting with the DJs could really expand your knowledge, too (most of them LOVE to talk music with listeners).
