These guys are nuts. I love what they do and I’m so glad they’ll be playing the gathering this year.
They just released a new EP for free: http://ho99o9.com/download/ just add your email address. Also, the youtube videos for the songs are below it if you prefer that method of consumption.
The shit is DARK and violent, very chaotic. It’s not like anything else out there really. Go check it out.
I’m kind of obsessed with their sound right now.
If you like it, go see them at the gathering, if you don’t, I’m sure you can check out something else while they’re on.

I used to date this girl who would get mad at me because of the way I listen to music. I have a tendency to edit songs together until their jumbled up and broken sounding. I also tend to go from genre to genre when edits aren’t an option.
These guys sound like the music I would make if I could make music. I can’t explain it but it hits all the right buttons. And unlike Death Grips it doesn’t sound contrived and unlike Tyler, the creator, it isn’t just trying to be funny. There’s something going on here and it’s, at least to me, really fascinating.

combining two of my favorite genres, hardcore punk and acid rap… pure genius
wish I could see them perform at the gathering, their live shows are wild, i’ll definitely be catching them when they tour through seattle

These guys are not original…please elaborate…
I shouldn’t have to. There is an entire history of music that can prove this. Splicing genres has been done for a long time. Ever hear of sutter kain? I don’t recommend seeking his bullshit out but it is basically rap over sampled metal. Ever hear of death grips? Ho99or9 is very similar just with hip hop added to the mix. It is not original it is basically reboots. I am by no means saying DO NOT ENJOY. I am just saying to not mistake it as original. True originality will not be by “genre” alone…it will take new instruments and styles of playing.

Gotcha. You’re right. They aren’t the first people to mix genres. I guess ICP aren’t original either. And Neither were Bad Brains. Or anybody since… theremin? i think that was the last truly unique instrument created.
But there’s nobody who sounds like them that’s putting music out right now, which I think means they’re at least in the upper percentages of originality even if they don’t quite meet your absurd standard.
Also Sutter Kain is dope. He sent me the first album they put out Black Sunday back when I was on Killmusick and it banged hard as fuck.

To me it seems like these guys might be going after some of that Odd Future money. And I fuckin hate Odd Future.
They don’t sound anything like Odd Future though. You’d be better just comparing them to the scene that they actually grew out of, the afro punk scene in the new jersey and new york areas. They’ve clearly been influenced by hardcore punk and are taking that cue more so than Odd Future who sound pop as fuck.
I like Tyler, and bits of the entire collective, so I can see them sharing some audience but to say they are trying to capitalize off what Odd Future did seems misinformed. I can’t see them doing shows with anybody from the Odd Future camp.

or are you asking as far as the history of music is involved?I will say for hip hop doseone has been fairly original as far as lyrical content..sole, Aesop rock, busdriver.
My man! Bus driver is the shit.
NoEmotion GoldMask, too, in my opinion. People like to compare him to doom, but I think it’s just because he wears a mask, his music is completely different.
