Fire. Album of the year? Idk but wow what an interesting direction for CG to take. I was expecting hip-hop. Anyways…

I like what I’ve heard from it. I started checking it out after watching Atlanta because that show is awesome and if his music is as clever as that show can be.

I’ve been meaning to watch that, only seen a few clips. I know him from Community, not really from his rap career. Damn this album is dope though. Hella old school vibe, like 1970s sound.

It’s a good show, it’s really funny. Has a lot of weird bits of satire in it. Kind of like a live action version of Boondocks.

It’s like Prince sprinkled with Soul Train. Amazing.

I fuck with Childish Gambino for a while. He’s dope. And like lucum said clever. Because the Internet is dope. His stuff before that is dope too. I haven’t tapped into him since the album. But I have been watching Atlanta. That’s a very good show. I like how Gambino pushes his media platform and just makes new dope shit. Good actor, rapper and singer. Now he has this show. I haven’t heard the new album but I will today. I’ve been listening to The Weeknd and Kid Cudi’s new shit.

I literally do not listen to much mainstream music at all. It has become too recycled and PC. I like harsh, rough, blunt and political messages that are not afraid to cross the lines.

You know, I can assure you that ‘mainstream’ music is no more recycled or PC or soft than ‘underground’ music. Especially in hip hop.

I think the rap they play on the radio is soft as fuck. I just don’t get rap now. Never did I guess. Mother fuckers just mumble right now. Getting lazy as shit and soft.

This album isn’t hip-hop. It was just made by a rapper.

I don’t listen to the radio. I just know what rappers are making the most noise. And I know that the autotuned trap rappers are such a small fraction of popular hip hop these days. Most of them are pretty dark though.

What I’m liking from the mainstream lately is Yelawolf, Childish Gambino, Kanye West, Big Sean (more for the production though), Travi$ Scott, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky, The Game, Tyler, The Creator, Pusha T, Run The Jewels, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, J. Cole, Vic Mensa and Wale.

Not sure if Flatbush Zombies or Mr. Mothafuckin’ eXquire count as mainstream. Not sure if Lupe Fiasco can still be considered mainstream either.

I just have an antiquated idea of what mainstream is. I wasn’t trying to say all popular rappers are soft

And yes nyro, I have to endure the torture of pop radio too. It physically upsets me.

I think the lines of mainstream rap and underground rap are becoming blurred again. Which is cool. Comes with the internet, so rappers who aren’t even played on the radio are just as popular and big as artists that are always on the radio. Sometimes even bigger.
