So, I saw that ebay post for Morton’s List, and I had never really looked into the game before. I did a bit of research, and it seems pretty fucking cool. I even bid on the game, here’s hoping I win. The seller put rare in the description though, so I might be screwed.

ANYWAY, seeing as this will be my first GOTJ, I was just wondering if any of you OGs can fill me in on whether or not there would be somewhere I could become familiar with Morton’s list if I am not able to win the e-auction. I would love to try this game, and the Gathering seems like a cool place to do it.

last year i met a pretty cool chick, goes by tox, that runs a group called, unsurprisingly, ‘mortons list at the gathering’.

shes gotta be the premier lister, among those that ive ever met.  hell, she may be the only person who has all the shadow lords autographs on her tome, or whatever they call it.  if youve seen those ninjas wearing the custom mortons list t-shirts, shes almost certainly the one that made em.

anyway, i can hook you up with a link to her fb thingy later, if youd like.  shes all about draggin people into their quests during the gathering.

i didnt participate last year, although i was just about convinced to try it again.

unfortunately, the sandman was calling, so sleep took precedence.

i just went and looked it up anyway.  mortons list at the gathering

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

Thanks, Scruffy. I shot them a message. Apparently the game was banned from some huge gaming convention because of the real life shit it has you do. I have a feeling they will take it pretty far at GOTJ, which is the point of the game. I am a little more pumped for the gathering now (didn’t think it was possible)

As a gamer, I’m surprised I never heard of this! This sounds fun as hell!

Reminds me of a game me and my friends used to play by Steve Jackson Games called Killer. Got into it as a kid cuz I heard it was banned from college campus’. Was also knocked off and became a movie called “Gotcha”. You and a group of other people that may or may not know each other get packets that include a picture and a time frame and you had to assassinate them creatively. Like… put a tape with gunfire or an explosion in their car stereo and crank the volume to simulate a car bomb or a drive-by when they turned the ignition… Do the ‘ol bucket of water on the door trick and kill them by dropping acid over them, rubber snakes in the mail box, etc. You can see why it got banned during class…

I once worked at a game store, now I know at least *one use for the 30-sided die we sold…

I would totally get into a game at the Gathering! At least give it a one round shot if I wasn’t doing other stuff.

Also thinking about Zombie Run or Ghost Hunter AR apps that might be fun to play out in those big ass fields now that there’s gonna be access…!

I guess I just don’t get the whole Morton’s List thing. I’ve seen it online, and every time I play with it, it always seems like it wants me to do something super lame. I just tried it again…the first “quest” was to play a game online. The second “quest” was to go fishing. I tried it one more time and I got “watch a live sporting event.” Really? I mean, sure, things are more fun when you do them in a group, but I just don’t get what’s supposed to be so fun about any of those things. Fishing is the dumbest waste of time ever…there’s no way I’d take time away from the Gathering to do it.

From what I gather(pun?) you and your group are supposed to reinterpret the results to best effect given your numbers environment and resources. Presumably such discussion is what really shapes the activity. So take your “watch sporting event” result… there’s no game on, no one has cable or maybe there isn’t even a tv… how would you complete the quest? Stuff like that…

I’m also finding that the “Lite” online version isn’t really the same as playing with the books and “expansion tables”. If anything, I’d say a good game of Juggalo Scavenger Hunt might yield the same adventures but the randomness of Morton’s is equally interesting.

My fiancee and I would definitely be up for this, but as some above posters stated, it can get boring in theory (I’ve never played). I may look into purchasing the actual game before my excursion to the Gathering.

They don’t make it anymore. They have the light version for download, but I am pretty sure the full version is at that link as well.

I thought Jumpsteady made a version of the game in which he used a 30 sided die and hosted it at the last gathering. My memory is a little foggy but I thought it was on Friday? It had stuff like “give a ninja some food” and “fuck with someone in security” and stuff like that.

Maybe I just imagined it.

Fyi, for as much as they’d like you to think you can only get the “boulder” with the game, you *can get 30sided die at full-on gaming stores. As well as die in every other multiple of ten (up to a freakish 100sided die)… which really is a boulder next to a six sided.

Looks like I’m a little late to the party.  Sorry homies.  I’m Tox, your Morton’s List guide.  Follow me for Morton’s List antics of all sorts.  Feel free to add me and my Morton’s List at the Gathering page on facebook (links on profile).  Just send me a message letting me know that you saw this post.

Whoop whoop, homies.
