This isn’t so much a “rant” as it is an observation followed by an empathic request…
In the years following up to my actually being able to go to my first Gathering, I was addicted to watching other people’s videos on YouTube of their adventures at *their Gatherings. Watched ’em all the damn time until I finally cracked the egg of getting myself to one of my own. I posted my own meager filmings but due to bad battery management ended up doing what I said I wouldn’t and mostly got stage shows (like everyone else…) and not nearly as much of everything else.
Now I got the bug. I’ve been counting the days until the next. I bought my ticket and car pass DAY ONE!!! I’m all but fuckin’ packed up and ready to leave TOMORROW if I had to to get back to Shangri-La in Legend Valley!
All I can do for now… is watch videos on YouTube to tide me over until I can. But here’s the thing… I somehow have managed to watch them ALL. Unless people have kept their shit private or haven’t tagged their shit so other people can find it in a search, I’ve seen everything on the site from The 15th (and before). Except…! For all the muthafuckin’ wanna-be directors that have left everyone hangin’ on these fuckin’ “masterpieces of YouTube cinema” for which they made “teaser trailers”, like, a fuckin’ month after the last Gathering and STILL haven’t released these “arias” of documentary film making!
There’s some great stuff out there already (Hazin’s stuff, 2KRUNK4U, FLH’s, to name a few) but some ninjas went there with fuckin’ DRONES and UltraHD cameras, boom mics, did interviews with every muthafako that came their way… hell, Psychopathic even had that crew running around that we were all told to leave alone cuz they were filming some kind of big “official” documentary movie…. AN’ I AIN’T SEEN NOR HEARD *SHIT* ABOUT IT SINCE!!!
There’s only four months left until the next one and this shit ain’t done! The Tubes are FULL of teasers and trailers and coming soons… I’m OVER it!
So here’s my request:
Pretty please. With sugar on top… FINISH YOUR FUCKING MOVIES ALREADY!!! If the shit isn’t done by the time the next Gathering rolls around… who gives a fuck?! You’re stuff’s old news and we’re on to the next one! Don’t “tease” me just to please me!
DO WORK! And tag your shit!

Well this year will be my first gathering and only having watched A Family Underground, I would love to watch some more vids to know what to expect/look forward too. So @Cheshyr saying you’ve seen them all… which ones would you say I must watch, or which ones will I would enjoy alot? List my a few… thanks!

dont bother. or at least, dont watch em as anything but cute bits of documentary trivia.
theyll just give you a tiny idea of what someone elses gathering was like.
i havent seen any videos yet that come remotely close to what its actually like to gather. this definitely includes a family underground.
my advice: just show up knowing/expecting nothing more that to take care of yourself and have as much fun as possible doing whatever seems like fun.
watch videos after the gathering. that way, theyll actually mean something, cuz youll be able to relate to em directly.
until then, itll be like lookin at hundreds of pictures of faygo bottles, tryin to get an expectation of what faygo tastes like. gotta drink it; knowing what it looks like wont help.

What Scruffy said. Going to a Gathering is like a “Choose Your Own Adventure”. It’s not the same without people looking at YOU and interacting with YOU and how YOU choose to interact with everyone else around you. An’ another thing is how much your senses are able to take in all at once. You’ll see a whole lot of stuff and still miss shit going on right next to you. Keeps your head on constant swivel…
But I’m not gonna lie that watching videos won’t get you in the mood like crazy!
So, @yakkattack here’s a few links I think you might enjoy. Best thing to do is type out “gathering of the Juggalos 2014” or “gotj 2014” and put a “this year” filter on it and you’ll get more. Of the links I’ll post, go check out the poster’s actual page for others. Personally, I liked watching ninja’s full-on movies of their beginning to end adventures (usually ending when the camera batteries died at the event).

The Reno Rydaz Documentary – They make one every year. They’ve gotten better at it each time. (You’ll never see it but I’m in there during the garbage fight before the ICP Seminar)
TWOKRUNK4U – He’s made videos for several Gatherings. This time he’s got a camera with dual shots of him AND what he’s looking at. Check his page for his others.
HAZINLANE – There’s no audio on this one (for some reason) so just pop in a CD and watch. Golf cart videos are good to watch (and there aren’t many from ’14 as they weren’t really letting people bring them that year) just so you can get a lay of the land (but it will never help you get an idea for the hills and the fuckin’ rocks). Check his page for others.
Bong Rips 2014 – A tradition of this ninja’s. Done it for many years. I love people watching and he takes snaps of everyone that takes a rip off his huge bong (some video in this one). Or maybe I just like the numbers going by.
Drone Shot – Cool view from Day 3 (during MadChild’s set). It had rained a while before. It’s slowed down a bit but if you change the speed setting (lower right) to X2, you’ll see it at normal (look for the Faygo hit).
The Boston Heckler – This dude is on a video from ’13 yelling at people in the dark at Hog Rock but this is funny as hell. You’ll notice, he’s being drunk and obnoxious but he’s just having fun and enjoying himself.
And don’t forget to check out the FaygoluversHeaven YouTube page for a bunch of other stuff like seminars and the pageant. But it’s just a FRACTION of what was going on. No one has posted stuff like the auction or the ninja Olympics and a whole slew of other “official” event let alone all the shit Juggalos were gettin’ on with!
Like Scruffy pretty much said, it ain’t the same peeking in a window than actually standing in the room.

@yakkattack As far as the videos, I enjoyed watching them shortly after the gathering to relive the experience through someone elses eyes and for knowledge on how to game plan for this year. Sometimes I will watch just to get my fix lol But what @scruffy and @cheshyr really are spot on. Those videos are cool to watch but its not the end all be all of what the gathering is all about. It just gives you insight and information. I went last year never going prior and I wasn’t sure what it was all about. After the first day I felt like I knew what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go and whatnot. I became more social with people and got to talk to some cool peoples. I didn’t camp though so I missed way to much. After seeing all the videos, reviews, and the post here, it made me want to camp this year. Im just gonna show up, set up shop, meet my camping neighbors and just roam around talking and meeting people from all over the world. Some people might like me, some might not, but its my experience and I’m gonna make the best of it. I tend to over think things which makes it hard for me to just relax. I have a gameplan and if it doesn’t work…fuckkit it will be fine. As long as I get there and get to gather I’m happy.

Other than the stuff in the videos I mentioned that take place BEFORE the crush (that still make mention of “the line”) there are NO videos of the moment in which they begin to let people in (aka The Starting Line). If you note, TWOKRUNK4U’s vid (for example) makes mention of the fact that he had already set up his tent and THEN came back to get his car…
I would TOTALLY give a prize to whoever can produce a video of themselves at the moment they let people in and the rush down the hills like some kind of land claim… but so far… it does not exist. I’ve seen videos of the hours BEFORE people line up and getting their tickets but NO ONE has posted a vid of the actual event of everyone rushing onto the grounds… (as it applies to Legend Valley… there ARE a few from Hog Rock).
If you need to provide some kind of visual… use THIS… and imagine the caravans as RVs…

I wish they would let the people with vehicle passes in first. It was hard to find a spot last year even though we arrived early and were actually one of the first cars there. The problem was the chaos at the gates the morning they open up. People who got there only an hour before with their cars were inside before people who had been there close to 24 hours. It took till close to noon for us to get in. No parking/entry organization. But that is every year. I have yet to see it as anything but a cluster fuck at any of the gatherings.
It should be better if they are really banning the caution tape. Last year they made people take it down so people could camp. I was glad about that or we would not have had a place to camp. First come first serve. No reserving spots for people not there yet.
As I’ve said before… “Gather Harder!”

This is what im picturing when I think of what its going to be like after they open the gates based off of what others have said. I tried to post the video but it said “This post contains an iframe which are disallowed” I tried to watch the video on how to post a video from youtube but the video link doesn’t work.
Maybe this year they will have a better system in place. I remember that they had to open up another lot because the original campsites were full but I remember seeing a lot of spots still open around the hill leading to the JCW stage and the hill on the back right side of the main stage area. I wonder why they had to do that. Maybe people blocking off spots in the beginning came into play and thats why they aren’t allowing it this year

Thank you. I tried using the insert video option and that’s what messed it up for me.
I remember when you walked up to the gate where they were checking for wristbands and whatnot there was a path to the JCW stage right before the gate. I guess they were still setting up that area. Hopefully they get it set up earlier. Im sure with it being the first year there they had some kinks to work out. Maybe they will have worked out the kinks letting everyone in…doubt it though. Im sure I will be in the mad dash like everyone else. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into Black Wednesday at Legend Valley. Those people in those stores were crazy

Dude thats the exact visual i had when i saw the shit go down “Far and Away”…but of coarse no one but me remembered that movie.
….Word Wagons RV and horse are Ninjas on Pedal Bikes…..but more bottlenecked at the gates, but thats it right there

Yeah, I had always thought of that movie whenever I heard stories about the opening crush. It’s the only one I can think of that depicts that Oklahoma Land Grab so I always go to “Far and Away” in my head about it.
I didn’t get to the grounds until 3p opening day so I was no where near it but this year I plan to be there the day before and I’ll film this year’s.
