Swollen Members rolled through town on Tuesday night on their latest nationwide tour, with Slaine along for the ride as the main opener. I arrived at the club around 10:30 pm and the last of the local openers were just finishing up. Went outside for a smoke and dipped back in when I heard them announce Slaine was coming up. I snapped some shots of the merch booth right before Slaine came on-

Then Slaine took to the stage, and it didn't take long for the energy in the room to pick up considerably. The show was very well attended, it was part of the Canadian Music Week festival so anyone who bought a wristband for that could get in free. It was 21 bucks for the rest of us. Slaine started off his set with my favorite song of his, "A World with No Skies", and then proceeded to perform material from across his discography. Highlights for me included "99 bottles" and the La Coka Nostra verses he busted out. Slaine also revealed he has quit drinking this past 3 months and was rocking a water bottle on stage throughout his set. Here are some pics of the big man from Boston getting down-

After a short break, Swollen Members took to the Opera House stage and performed a dope ass set. Unlike the last time I saw Swollen, there were no forgotten lyrics, or re-dos of fucked up verses. They were way on point. I'm sure performing to very large crowd helped keep their energy high. Tracks they performed included Red Dragon, Lady Venom, Night Visions, Bring It Home, Bax War and a very large chunk of Madchild solo shit mixed throughout the set. Here are some snaps of Swollen killing it-

NOW Magazine just published a little review of the show. The female reviewer got offended when Madchild performed "Dickhead" check it-
Swollen Members' at the Opera House, Tuesday, May 6. 'Rating: NNN
Vancouver’s Swollen Members started about 15 minutes before their midnight slot time. Fortunately, I waltzed in to their all-time best tune, Bring It Home, from 2001’s Bad Dreams.
Both Madchild and Prevail are competent showmen, and Prevail laid down a formidable freestyle, even chastising people for calling it Canadian Music Week instead of Canada Music Week. (Wait, isn’t it Canadian Music Week?)
It all would have been better if we hadn’t had to hear Madchild, during a solo turn, completely degrade women in one of the most disgusting songs ever written.
