I did not want to start a thread called CFL

but the greatest city in the world Montreal and our kickass football team the allouettes(sparows) signed the first openly gay football player Michel Sam today he will join Chad "ochocinco' Johnson next season to help us win our 8th grey cup.

They gave him a shot. Me, personally, I was rooting for him too. Turns out, he wasn't good enough - that's why he's playing in Canada now. Once he gets some experience under his belt, he might be able to play with the big boys... Although that last phrase might be a little unfortunate, in this case. lol.

EDIT: And am I the only one who finds it funny that a dude who changed his name to the Spanish translation of his number now plays where they speak French? That's supremely giggle-worthy. ;)

whats funny about that to me, is that ochocinco translates to 'eightfive'.  but he thinks it means 'eighty-five'.

should be ochenta y cinco.

i really thought sam would pull off a roster slot in the nfl.  was fairly certain it wouldnt be with st louis, cuz the rams are first class, when it comes to the d-line [maybe even the class of the league].

apparently, every other team decided they didnt need him, either.  have my doubts about that, but id expect he was offered a position on somebodys practice squads, and didnt wanna go that route.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

its because he's a homo no team wanted him, some places where they play football in America are hardcore anti homo places and the NFL was scared about what its fans might do.

I don't think that's the whole story... I think it's more along the same lines of why Tebow's found it so hard to stay employed - the teams who need him can't afford the media circus their presence would bring. That's why Tebow was able to find a home (for now) in Philly - Chip Kelly loves him a circus.

i can't believe it's here again... can't it go away for a couple more months? i was happily watching cops and drinkin beer last night when i was forcefully kicked off the tv by my brothers because the browns game was coming on...

so i says to them "look who cares? they suck and it's just pre-season."

to witch they retort "we have a chance this year! our offensive 'something or other' is the best in the league."

"so the browns finally drafted Bobby Boucher? because the only thing they could ever have that's the 'best in the NFL' is a water-boy "

More like go away forever.

Most of you would probably not like visiting me; I am the type of person who will delete all sports channels from the channel rotation on my TV so I don't have to waste my time skipping past them.

i dont begrudge people their hatred of sports.  sports culture is largely fucked up.

my uncles throws parties on super bowl sunday, where they turn the game off as soon as it starts.

rams tonight.  being preseason, i basicly dont care, but its still far better than no football.

nope.

rams won in overtime.  five quarters.

thus, that 'play' was dumb shit for more than just the one reason.

I feel like the amount of time PLAYING football vs. the amount of time TALKING about football is a very grotesquely annoying ratio.

this part of your post, i must agree with enthusiastically.

of course, its also true of any and all sports.  and movies...  music...

media, dating, arts, history, philosophy, hobbies, spirituality...

in fact, the only pursuits i can think of that it might maybe not apply to, are video games and writing.

rest of the post i consider a stretch, but i dont begrudge you your outlook.

you don't play many video games do you.

Cut scenes these days are horribly over long

and achievements. i remember playing one to hte GTA games, walk off the boat in the first 10 seconds of gameplay and  *Congratulations! you just completed "im off a boat" achievment!"

and have you read lord of the rings? its like 85% filler.

im a great lover of high fantasy novels.

but lord of the rings is hands down one of the worst series ever written.

You can put sprinkles and frosting on a terd but its still a terd.

yeah, but for the time being, people still play em more than they talk about em.  it wont last.

'writing', not reading.

people definitely talk about reading way more often than they actually read something.

Lover of fantasy yet doesn't like lord of the rings. That's like being a juggalo and not liking ICP. also if it that bad how did you make it through all three books? I mean seriously. cause ive had folks try to play that bs like "I read all 3 books and it sucked." if you really thought it sucked you would have put it down after tha first page. ive also exposed myself as a huge nerd. fuck.

bwahahha

your exposed!

but alas, yes i have read all three books.

i have a rule. if i pick it up i finish it.

its my only rule when reading. dont start something if you dont plan on finishing it.

and ive picked up some corkers in my time. Including several Stephen Hawking novels (for no other reason than i had nothing to read at the time), the first twilight book, Mein Kompf (spelling lol) and several variations of the bible cover to cover despite my dislike of religion in general.

We could get into an argument about opinions and how like assholes, everyones got one. but that would serve no purpose.

No, i don't like lord of the rings. if i wanted to read novels about scenery, id read a book about gardening. it'd serve a much better purpose.

There are far more talented writers in the world than Tolkien ever was. Brandon Sanderson is my God of Books.
