the dictionary is your friend.

Clod means idiot or some shit but who cares because I’m not the queen of england, lame ass. “Clod?” was a rhetorical question, moron. As in what kind of shithead calls someone a fucking clod. rofl_gifwhatever

who the fuck was talkin to you, pissant?

excuse me, that was inflammatory.  meant to say, you misunderstood me.  didnt realize youd be so touchy, upon seeing the word ‘dictionary’.  my bad.

This is a forum so you do realize that others can see and can respond to what you write whether directed at someone else or not, right? Also, I don’t need to keep a dictionary nearby to carry a conversation. I guess you need that crutch though. I’m glad you’ve found a way to keep up.

We live in the Information Age, EVERYONE has a dictionary nearby if they are posting on this site. It’s whether you use it or not.

Point #1: Y’all realize that a good percentage of today’s students aren’t aware that dictionaries in book form exist? I shit you not.

Point #2: I catch hell from time to time for using “big words”, and get accused of “talking down” to people. I don’t get it. Since when is it a bad thing to have a freakin’ vocabulary? And, as an extension of that, why’s it a bad thing to expect others to be willing to broaden their own? Just another example of the gradual descent of humanity into laziness, ignorance, and apathy.

Yeah, all those paper dictionaries have their own websites now.

And I do this thing at work called word of the week where I write a word on the board with the definition.

Some of the words I used are:

Retrogression

Anthropophagy

Ubiquitous

Insatiable

Mendacious

and upon request the new word for this week will be Cunnilingus.

Retrogression I think I can figure out just based on prefix/suffix stuff. Ubiquitous and Insatiable I know and use in normal conversation lol… Anthropophagy and Mendacious I’m not familiar with. (Side note, spell check flagged Anthropophagy as incorrect lol)

I know, but it’s in the dictionary.

Anthropophagy is a fancy word for cannibalism.

Mendacious is being dishonest basically. I put that word up the week that we, actually I, talked to a coworker for trashing other coworkers with lies and straight up lying to our faces.

Not only does every dictonary have a website or mobile app, there are extensions for web browsers where you can double click a word and have the definition pop up.

I wish they taught more greek/latin roots in school. It would make it so a lot of people could figure out words without needing to look them up MUCH easier.

Agreed. I wish they had a class (maybe just one semester) on Etymology in high school. I think it would increase people’s vocabulary naturally.

Same reason I couldn’t take conversational Spanish my senior year.

The closest we got to Etymology was some Greek and Latin in 8th Grade Language Arts.

My son is taking Latin as his high school foreign language, particularly because he’s planning to go into the sciences as a career… But in neither school he’s attended to was anything offered prior to that.
