I listened to it, few songs I liked on there. I think as a whole, if J did this album sober or only smoking weed, it would have been alot better. Mike E Clark did "The Stiff" and even on that song J just doesn't sound right. For me, what it sounds like is this is a project J threw together while on pills or whatever. There's a song, I forget where, for a brief second you can hear J slip on what he's trying to say but recovers it fairly quick. It's on the hurter about 31-32 seconds in. Maybe he didn't have a chance to hear it sober, or just didn't want to go in and fix alot of this album - but for me this was a huge let down. I've always enjoyed J's solo work. All the choruses suck, vocals are just flat - once again poorly mixed, and the beats were ok nothing great.
Cover reminds me of something they would have done for lotus.

I fuckin knew MEC did "The Stiff". Love that beat and style, aside from J's voice being different you could have fooled me into saying that's an old school track from back in the day.
I do still wonder how much of J's voice that people perceive of him being high or fucked up or whatever is just due to the fact that he has had all of his teeth replaced (around FFF era) and it's really impacted the way he talks and his voice. You'd think he'd have gotten more used to the dentures by now but it still has a big impact on his voice and delivery.
My favorite songs are easily Pitch Dark, The Stiff, Something's In My Room, and The Hurter. A few others are cool too but those stood out.
But I do think there are some clunkers that should have either been totally cut or could have used a bit more work. I think In the Hole, No Friends, and Some Good Pussy are basically straight up bad and J has no clue what he's doing vocally on those. Those could have been left off the album easily.
And then like Clown Blood is cool but the chorus is terrible, that one could have been a classic with a decent chorus. A Harrowing Time is kind of interesting at times as a sequel to The Dead One, but, needed some editing and trimming to make it more worth the listen. It's a good 1:30-2mins too long at least. Horrendous Ways has some cool stuff too, but also some very awkward phrasing/editing that could have been way better with a bit more effort and thought.

In an interview last year J said he was doing pills since like 3-4 years ago so I am guessing he started pills around FFF era. It's not the teeth causing the issues. On bedlam he sounds high on a few tracks as well. I can tell he's high because of the nasally sound coming from his voice. I noticed it a bit on bedlam, but I hear it all over the solo album. People are saying his voice is blown out, his voice definitely isn't blown out lol
I don't know if anyone here has done pills but if you eat enough you will most def sound like how J is. It's kind of like a froggish tone to your voice. I thought his singing songs were fine lyrically, but he was so blown out of his mind trying to sing it he just didn't care how it sounded.
If he got sober and re-recorded this and wrote better choruses, could easily be one of psy's top cds in the last 10 years.
