I read somewhere that there is a first and second edition of the boxset.

I know it was out of stock for well over a year on hatchet gear… It’s back in stock now…

Is there actually a first and second edition of this, making the first edition more rare/valuable?

If this is true how can you tell the difference between the two editions?

Thanks :)

Since Discogs only lists one version for the Box Set

https://www.discogs.com/Insane-Clown-Posse-The-First-Six/release/6531728

I’m betting there’s only one version. They list the Gold, Red, Purple, and Green Milenkos, so they seem legit. Here’s where to order it:

Discogs is hella legit. The only thing is that they are user updated so sometimes albums and or variants do fall through the cracks. More often than not though, if it’s not on Discogs it doesn’t exist.

Ahhh awesome, thanks for the info.

These used to go for crazy money on ebay, but now you can just pick them up from Hatchet Gear for $80.

I bought the newer version and the quality is crap. Signatures on the C.O.A. Are just printed now. Cds look like they printed them in house and ink was running low. I was dissapointed and sold it.

I passed on the set when it originally dropped mainly because it was just standard copies and no remasters. Picked up House of Wax separately. If my memory serves me right House of Wax has track listing errors on the back of the CD. I wanna say they left off the self titled track.

Also, The question symbol on the riddle box is missing. Funny as hell when J Webb did the unboxing video and had to save face when he caught that in the video since he over saw the production.

I really wanted to pick this up but since the autographs are printed now, it’s a deal breaker. I have their autographs but just wanted it for this project. Thanks for the heads up sugar tits.

mine had not one, but two.

why you want remastered versions of albums that were already properly mastered?  just the novelty of it?

i think you are confused.

far as ‘in-house printing’ and such…  extremely unlikely.

sound to me like a knockoff.

Honestly I think I want mainly Carnival of Carnage and Ringmaster remastered.

they already were.  the ones in with the set…  remasters.

psy aint gonna remaster em again, and even if they did, you can only squeeze out so much.  after its been done once, all you can do is damage.  sometimes [often], remastering once is doing damage.

frankly, i dont like the ringmaster remaster.  better to throw on the first one, and just turn the volume up one whole notch.

Yes scruffy you were correct it was the riddle box anniversary edition that they left the ? Mark off on.

I really don’t consider it a remaster since they did not have access to the actual masters to tweak the riddle box. It was actually horrible to listen too.

With such low sample rates back then I can’t understand how you can actually adjust it any better. Kind of sounds like they ran the entire thing threw some presets then sold it off.

Lame.

In the news on Faygoluvers main site about the auction that’s happening at GOTJ it says they are auctioning a first edition of this set.

It says it has a ‘misprint on the sticker’. Does this mean the sticker that they put on the protective plastic?

I have a first edition but I always rip the plastic off, never thought about saving the sticker on it!

it might be the dog beats version that was shown prior to the release..

I would fucking LOVE to have the first six on vinyl…as my username indicates. And each album would be double vinyl so that only three to four songs would be on each side. And the groove would be interwoven fairly tightly. Put as few tracks as possible on one side to minimize inner groove distortion sound for the last track on each side.

However, good luck on ICP getting the money to get access to the masters to press them onto vinyl. Let’s not forget that Island owns the masters for the last three of the first six if I’m not mistaken.

Despite the Psychopathic/MNE beef right now, I would love it if Psychopathic put out a double vinyl of mostasteless. On the other hand, I think Island may own that master as well. Or am I wrong?

Island owns AJB and Milenko (and Bizzar/Bizaar, but that’s not involved here); Jive owns Riddlebox.  But they claimed that they dropped a shit ton of money on getting those rights to release this set, so it would depend on what kind of deal they actually got with it.  If it was just a one time deal to make this set, then yea.  But if they bought out their own contracts to get full rights, then they could do the vinyl set.  Hard to say, really.

The Wraith vinyl LP that came out years ago in 2002 was actually on Psychophatic Records.

The Riddlebox that has come out on vinyl recently is put out by Legacy vinyl.

Not all music sounds better on vinyl. That’s kind of my problem with the resurfacing interest in it. The Wraith: Shangri-La can’t sound good on vinyl. It just doesn’t make any sense to release it like that. Some cards (Ringmaster especially) would/do sound fuckin killer but the overall vibe/sound of vinyl isn’t the best option for any and all music. Damn sure not all the first 6 anyway.

Man, fuck. yes. Shit, I would even give Twizzler my money for that. I don’t care who releases it, I’d buy it.

Since your name IS “vinyllover”, is there a specific player you can recommend? I need an external speaker option and, ideally, want there to be a bluetooth/AUX port option but that’s not a must. There’s a few that meet those specifics but I trust a forum member over a rando on Amazon. Don’t give a shit about price range either.

Re: Mostasteless.

Psychopathic put out the original one in 1997, but Island/Def Jam helped put out the 1999 one with a different track listing and some censored lyrics such as the song diemotherfuckerdie. So I don’t know who has what master. I would prefer the uncensored one. I don’t know if Island/Def Jam ended up retaining the original master in order to distribute it in 1999. So we may have another situation where the band does not own the master such as ICP’s GM and AJB.

As for specific players, I always say get a turntable with a bent s shaped arm.

direct-drive-turntable-system-sl-1200gae-7-1.jpgImage Enlarger

It follows the angles and null points of the Stevenson Protractor. This was invented by the japanese as opposed to a straight arm for one reason. The phenomenon known as inner groove distortion is minimized because as the s shaped arm gets closer to the end of the record, the needle is fairly parallel to the groove and so it can capture the sound better. Inner groove distortion however is best minimized with a sharp shibata needle and a lateral arm turntable as opposed to the regular kind where the aparatus with the tonearm is built into the table at the top right hand corner.

Now granted, the Baerwald protractor sets up the needle to be more parallel with the outer part of the groove and less with the inner. But I compromise because the goove at the start of the record takes so long to bend, that there is plenty of room for “error” for the needle to not be sitting in the groove 100% parallel. A sharp shibata needle also takes away the worry. The inner part of the groove where the velocity decreases and bends more sharply, thus making it harder for the needle to track and pick up everything in it, that is where the problems really exist. That I why I love my bent arm turntable. But as I said, a lateral arm with a shibata needle is probably the best.

bang_olufsen_beogram_8000-4.jpgImage Enlarger

I may just pick one of those up myself.

Now I run an old school style technics (see above) through an old 70’s amp with 70’s speakers. It cost me $650 10 years ago! It was built like turntables were in the 70’s. The amp in my basement (from the late 70’s) puts out half the wattage the speakers (also late 70’s) can take, but it’s still a powerful amp. My twiztid, ICP and Dark Lotus vinyl sounds amazing. Especially with the new shibata needle. Goodbye inner groove distortion! I run a truly old school system. Nothing modern about it. Certainly no bluetooth.

For your situation with something a little more modern, I would suggest an audiotechnica turntable. Some of those are built in with bluetooth capabilities. An audiotechnica like this for example,

http://www.avshop.ca/dj-equipm…..aQodBTYK0A

is already pre-grounded unlike older turntables that have the plugin cord, the white and red bits, and the horseshoe shaped ground all coming out from the back. The new audiotechnica ones are digital/analog hybrids with USB ports for the purpose of feeding vinyl into a computer. As for bluetooth capabilities from audiotechnica there is more than one option as a quick internet search shows. But those tonearms are straight and that is not my preference for reasons already stated. I am not sure if that audiotechnica one above that is more expensive, has bluetooth capability. It might.

As for external speaker options, you may want to consider a pre-amp. Although with the new audiotechnica I gave a link to above, that may not be necessary. ir could be very powerful. It looks exactly like the technics I have. But it does depend on what stylus you have on there. Ortofon and audiotechnica do not project sound too loudly as I have found. I have had to turn up my amp louder than I used to when I had a shure needle beforehand. Shure needles project sound loud and the lower end especially REALLY well. To this day I am not sure if Shure even made a cartridge with a shibata stylus. If they did, I would scoop one up in a heartbeat despite the fact it could cost me anywhere from 700 to 1000 dollars. I settled for ortofon because their shibata needle was amazing. I was willing to sacrifice volume for waving goodbye to inner groove distortion.

When it comes to speakers, make sure then can take more than whatever the turntable/amplifier combination can put out. You never wanna blow those babies. My buddy recently went to a yard sale and picked up an old amp and set of speakers from the 80’s. Total: 130 bucks. He already had a record player. So cheap and easy. I love old school. Ultimately, it’s really up to you.
