Even though he’s always been the shit in my opinion but is anyone noticing how much more wicked and dark he has become? I seen this especially on the song Six Pedophiles he gets downright bloody as fuck lol and with the releases he’s been on for the past couple years it just seems he gets sicker and sicker with everything he lays his hands on anymore I just posted to see how many people have noticed this also?

oh yeah, for a while Shaggy was fuckin horrbile!!!  I used to be jockin Shaggs back in the day hard, still do, but some shit I’m like god damn, cuz in the studio you listen to the playback a 100 times.  I always thought of what the people in the studio were thinking when hearing his verses back then….

Yeah Shaggs pinnacle of suck was Dark Lotus Black Rain i my opinion. The track would just come to a complete halt during his raps. Almost ruins the album for me, I hate to admit. He was drinking a lot I guess. Raspberry Smirnoff bleechhhhhhh#!!! Then he would go on make FTFO which is one of PSY’s best albums ever. He has stepped up more recently too. Shaggs is the man.

I don’t think it was booze. He always seemed to be a high functioning alcoholic. His shitty verses always played as him just not feeling the song so he didn’t even try. At least to me.

FTFO was what alcoholics refer to as ‘a moment of clarity” – Jules

toking some Blubonic and sipping ale… random thought….

Shaggy would make a dope track with Stevie Stone.

Shaggy’s lowest points were Black Rain, late 2007 – mid 2008, and every Rydas album (I haven’t heard Check Your Shit In though, so I can’t speak on that). He sounds noticeably intoxicated on tracks like Jump Off, Death Don’t Want You, Last Day Alive, Hatchet Man, and the Duk Da Fuk Down album.

Though even at his lowest points in his struggle with addiction, he had his strokes of sheer genius.

On Black Rain he spits a dope introductory verse on the title track, paints a captivating picture on Walls, and delivers a stellar, brutally honest depiction of his struggle with substance abuse:

“Understand, certain motherfuckers jump to life

When certain concoctions dump down they windpipe

In the stomach, to the blood, on up to the dome piece

Pass out, wake up, snappin’ all necks within arms reach

I need another fixin’, southwest Delray

Green glowin’, toxic bubblin’, Lord have mercy

I happen to be an addict in my nugget, and I love it

But I can’t seem to get enough of the shit, so fuck it”

He also shines on Further Away from Psychopathics from Outer Space 3:

“It’s a never ending story, I’m like a tree

I get away from the nothingness that consumes me

Floatin’ on along, barely see the land

Back in the day, I was basking in the sand

I don’t see no hope, I don’t see no tryin’

Only way out this shit is- man, fuck dyin!

The farther I get, the closer I come to something else

And that’s Lotus love, nothin’ more, nothin, less”

He bounced back on The Calm- especially Crop Circles, and crafted one of the best Psy releases in F.T.F.O. I look at Memories as metaphor for alcoholism, as Cobwebs in my Attic is for pill addiction. It’s great that he was able to address his demons in such a creative format.

Opaque Brotherhood very well may be the greatest release from Psy- it’s practically flawless, and Shaggy once again sounds revitalized and inspired lyrically. Even his more erratic flows on the title track and Falling, have an angry charisma that only intensifies the flow of the track. Not to mention he steals the show on Trapped Inside:

“Slow IV drip, I’m layin’ on a table

I can feel em cuttin’ me, I’d move, but I’m unable

Hot tears pour from my eyes down my cheek

You can hear the beep from my vital signs is gettin’ weak

Commotion, they must’ve removed the wrong organ

I overheard em’ sayin’ I’ll be dead by the mornin’

So now I’m trapped here, waitin’ to die

Make peace with the beyond, close my eyes, and say goodbye”

Even though I haven’t felt the modernized direction ICP’s/Psy’s sound has gone (I prefer the traditional boom bap wicked shit), it’s awesome to see Shaggs resharpened drive and motivation. Can’t keep a ninja down! MMFWCL!

I agree with a lot of what you said.

Shaggy also has a one in a billion voice, style and charm. He is the dude everybody wants to hang with.

Jever thought about thise FTFO tracks as those particular metaphors, and I’m always thinking of that shit in ICP songs. Bravo, now I have to go peep them tracks again.

I always considered “Play With Me” as Violent J’s take on being famous and infamous. It is similar to “Manic Depression” in lyrics. I think I will start a metaphor thread lol

Is no one going to mention that he admitted in an interview to having a ghost writer?

I always figured J did most of the penwork. Doesnt change much for my opinions of him. If its someone else like Otis then yes, that would disappoint me.

True that! His voice is instantly recognizable, and he’s so low key that it’d be cool to just kick it with him and pick his brain, haha.

Yeah, those metaphors just clicked for me a while back. Cobwebs was a bit more obvious for me, but with Memories it was much more cryptic in its detailing. Having experienced family and friends being driven away from me due to substance abuse, I just connected the puzzle pieces. With Shaggs describing being on autopilot, living a life that’s not his own, and feeling isolated/alone, everything fell into place from there.

NOTE: The brutally honest verse I quoted from Black Rain was from “Corrosion.” I realized I didn’t specify that, and I can’t edit my post, haha.

That’s a great observation on “Play With Me.” I gotta re-listen to that track, it’s been quite a while since I listened to that track in particular. You should start that thread, it’d make for interesting discussion.

By the way, this forum is great! I never realized Faygoluvers added a forum. This is the only Juggalo community forum I’ve been able to find, since Sick Fucks United shut down in 2008.
